arf arf... Security reports reveal how Assange turned an embassy into a command post for election meddling and Despite being confined to the embassy while seeking safe passage to Ecuador, Assange met with Russians and world-class hackers at critical moments, frequently for hours at a time. He also acquired powerful new computing and network hardware to facilitate data transfers just weeks before WikiLeaks received hacked materials from Russian operatives. These stunning details come from hundreds of surveillance reports compiled for the Ecuadorian government by UC Global, a private Spanish security company, and obtained by CNN. They chronicle Assange's movements and provide an unprecedented window into his life at the embassy. They also add a new dimension to the Mueller report, which cataloged how WikiLeaks helped the Russians undermine the US election. An Ecuadorian intelligence official told CNN that the surveillance reports are authentic... https://edition.cnn.com/2019/07/15/politics/assange-embassy-exclusive-documents/index.html ...on June 14, when the Democratic National Committee announced that it had been hacked and blamed Russia -- which Trump dismissed as a farce. Assange was busy back at the embassy. That month, members of the security team worked overtime to handle at least 75 visits to Assange, nearly double the monthly average of visits logged by the security company that year. He met Russian citizens and a hacker later flagged in the Mueller report as a potential courier for emails stolen from the Democrats... arf arf...
  18. BANGKOK — Nine vendors were arrested Thursday after police raided Khaosan Road for illegal sales of laughing gas. Police Maj. Gen. Sukhun Phrommayon said the nine vendors selling nitrous oxide, popularly known as “laughing gas,” were charged for selling medicine without a license. Sukhun said the raid was made after an informant informed authorities of the illicit gas being sold on Khaosan Road. Sales of the gas in the backpacker haven are popular known however, as shown across TripAdvisor reviews and videos of partygoers getting high on Youtube. Health officials have warned against the recreational use of the gas, in which partygoers inhale the gas, sold in balloons, to bring on euphoria and hallucinations. “An overdose can cause vomiting, disorientation, and even the loss of consciousness,” Food and Drugs Administration sec-gen Tares Krassanairawiwong said. “Prolonged use can lead to numbness of hands and feet, or even deaths as the gas can replace oxygen in the bloodstream.” Under Thai law, nitrous oxide is a controlled medicine, which can only be administered for health purposes. The gas is used to induce anesthesia during operations, but is also used to fill air bags in the automobile industry. http://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/2019/07/12/not-a-joke-police-raid-khaosan-for-laughing-gas/ arf arf....
  19. A fast-running megaraptor equipped with long claws and an appetite for meat is the latest dinosaur species to be discovered in Thailand’s northeast. Up in Khon Kaen, where raptors were the apex predators millions of years ago, the Phuwiangvenator yaemniyomi recently became certified as the 10th dinosaur species discovered in Thailand since 1976. They grew to be upward of 6 meters in length and lived in the Cretaceous period. Remains from the species were first discovered nearly 30 years ago in the Phu Wiang National Park, according to the Mineral Resources Department. Officials are embarking on a four-year campaign to see the park become a UNESCO Global Geopark. https://coconuts.co/bangkok/news/carnivorous-megaraptor-becomes-10th-dinosaur-discovered-in-thailand/ However, later, when speaking to our intrepid reporter, she admitted to being Nok from Kaeng Lawa, though she did like being carnivorous on account of her taste for men.
  20. BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha formally resigned as the head of the military government on Monday, saying the country would function as a normal democracy after five years of military rule. Prayuth stays on as prime minister with the backing of pro-military parties in parliament and a military-appointed upper house under a constitution that critics say stifles democracy and enshrines a political role for the military. Prayuth, in a televised address to the nation, said military rule had brought success in many areas, from fixing the problem of illegal fishing and human trafficking, to the rescue of 12 boys and their soccer coach trapped in a flooded cave last year. The former army chief who seized power in a 2014 coup, said the intervention then had been necessary to restore order after six months of street protests and violent clashes, but things were getting back to normal after a March 24 election. “Thailand is now fully a democratic country with a constitutional monarchy, with a parliament whose members are elected,” Prayuth said. “All problems will be addressed normally based on a democratic system with no use of special powers,” he said, referring to sweeping powers the military government wielded. Last week, Prayuth used those powers for one last time to end various restrictions on media. (coss comment: good on him) He also transferred civilian legal cases from military to civilian court though he retained the power to let security forces carry out searches and make arrests unchallenged. King Maha Vajiralongkorn last week endorsed Prayuth’s new civilian cabinet, drawn from a 19-party coalition government that holds a slim majority in parliament. Thailand has seen intermittent bouts of political turmoil and violence - as well as two military coups - over the past 15 years as new political forces drawing support from the countryside have challenged the Bangkok-based military-royalist establishment. People are generally cautious about what the new set-up might bring. “We have to see their work first,” Noppawan Hiranpruk, 47, a market vendor told Reuters. “It’s OK to have old faces provided they have new ideas to make new things happen,” she said. The new government will officially take power after a swearing in ceremony on Tuesday. It is due to present its policies to parliament next week. And to continue the Epstein thing. The people that helped U.S. billionaire Jeffrey Epstein prey on children. ...Epstein's former girlfriend, British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, was described in accuser Sarah Ransome's 2017 lawsuit as the "highest-ranking employee" of Epstein's alleged sex-trafficking enterprise. Joseph Recarey, the former Palm Beach police detective who led the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, said the millionaire's solicitation of sex with underage girls resembled a pyramid scheme. Its unraveling was similar, with one victim leading to two others, each of whom led to others, and so on. She oversaw and trained recruiters, developed recruiting plans and helped conceal the activity from law enforcement, Ransome alleged... https://www.stuff.co.nz/world/americas/114237641/the-people-that-helped-us-billionaire-jeffrey-epstein-prey-on-children and who is Ghislaine? this one.

As we've noted in the past, Aussie is the USA for beginners , NZ is the UK for beginners and it would appear that, Christchurch is the English class system for beginners, but now with a wrecked cathedral c/o God &c And to continue this theme, Christchurch is where the NZ fascination with Cricket began. Even though there is a stalwart group, in our otherwise egalitarian society, whom, insist that Cricket is for persons of class, that NZ is good at this sport and do slavishly follow and promote it, the majority of NZ folk follow rugby and go fishing in summer (summer is cricket time). As to 'Kong's reference to N Z losing a recent cricket match to Engerlund, I and most Kiwis, would have been surprised if they'd won, on account of those Cricket wallahs, rarely win anything.

More a part of this thread perhaps than where I would ordinarily put it in Movies or shows but there is a series on You Tube, History channel production, called The Fifties. A look at that decade in the US, it's in 7 episodes and covers a range of topics but does give some insight in to just how bad things were there back then, how they improved, and how nothing has really changed. Worth a watch on a wet Wednesday. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtPdlAX4K2o&list=PL4w-2j6Q0Qj7kHqyyAu0wUxTw88gwLD9y

After withdrawal of the current ambassador the UK now has to find a new one who does not think that the President of the United States is a dysfunctional goof. Which shall be very very difficult. Maybe Nigel Farage, what do you think gentlemen? Together with Prime Minister Boris they could organise the greatest comedy the world has ever seen. I watched a report of Khun Trump in the middle of some people who were praising him for his incredible efforts to protect the American environment. A spectacle beyond any possible imagination. I believe even the Korean rocketman or Vladimir of Moscow would have been ashamed to participate in such bizarre setup , but Donald wasn´t.
