Bangkok, ThailandCNN — A Thai court on Wednesday ordered the kingdom’s most popular political party to end its campaign to amend the country’s notoriously strict royal defamation law, dashing its supporters hopes for reform of the powerful monarchy. The Constitutional Court in Bangkok ruled the progressive Move Forward Party, which won the most seats in last year’s election, violated the constitution through its campaign to amend the lese majeste law. In its ruling, the court said many Move Forward lawmakers had campaigned to abolish the lese majeste law, face charges under the royal defamation legislation, or used their position to bail out others charged under it. The court ordered the party to “stop any act, opinion expression via speech, writing, publishing or advertisement or conveying any message in other forms” with the aim to abolish or amend the law. Another wee story, I was renting a place in Vientiane and the landlord was showing a beast from the states, the next door unit, he asked me if I could tell her what the neighbourhood etc. was like. So I did, but her most important question was, who was and where, did I get my cleaner and cook from... A Facebook post from the group Second-Hand Houses With Good Deals in Bangkok and its vicinity revealed the supernatural powers within the house and also explained the rules for living there. The house in question is located on Krung Thep Kritha Road with an area of 89 square metres. The house comprises three bedrooms, two living rooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen, two dressing rooms, and a storage room. There is also a parking space for two cars. Well-known serial petitioner Srisuwan Janya has been taken into police custody on an extortion charge, after he and two associates allegedly demanded 1.5 million baht from the director-general of the Rice Department in exchange for dropping his plan to lodge a complaint of alleged corruption against the official. The police action followed the filing of a complaint by Natthakit Khongthip, director-general of the Rice Department, claiming that Srisuwan, Yotwarit Chuklom and a former United Thai Nation party candidate called “Pimnattha” had tried to extort three million baht from him. The trio threatened to expose alleged corruption in the Rice Department’s project to cut rice production costs unless Natthakit paid them three million baht. The amount was, however, negotiated down to 1.5 million baht. Police then set up a sting operation, by letting a courier take the first 500,000 baht payment to Srisuwan’s house, a process which was kept under close surveillance. Officials from the National Anti-Corruption Commission and anti-corruption police raided Srisuwan’s house, in the Prueksa 17 housing estate in Lam Luk Ka district of Pathum Thani, at about 3pm today, after the director-general sent the courier to deliver the 500,000 baht in cash to Srisuwan’s wife. Police said that Srisuwan noticed the police arriving, grabbed the parcel containing the cash and threw it out of the compound of his house. Police managed to recover the cash and took Srisuwan into custody before searching his house for more evidence. Srisuwan and his wife were whisked away from their house in a passenger van, reportedly for questioning. Shortly afterward, another police team at Government House took Yotwarit Chuklom into custody. He is an aide to Deputy Prime Minister Pirapan Salirathavibhaga. Yotwarit told the media, however, that he had nothing to do with the alleged extortion. The use of generative AI to create fake porn clips with other people’s faces has become a serious issue leading to the police, on Sunday, warning of harsh penalties for those found guilty. Royal Thai Police deputy spokesman Pol Maj-General Siriwat Deepor said police have found criminals using portraits of entertainers and singers as well as general people to create fake porn clips using generative artificial intelligence technologies. The criminals then disseminated or sold the fake porn clips via several channels, causing severe damage to the reputation of the persons whose portraits were used, the spokesman added. The spokesman warned that those engaged in such activities would face at least six counts of offences: — Defamation or violation of Article 326 of the Criminal Code that carries a maximum jail term of one year and a maximum fine of 20,000 baht or both. — Defamation by publicity or violation of Article 328 of the Criminal Code that carries a maximum jail term of two years and a maximum fine of 200,000 baht or both. — Producing and having porno clips in possession with intent to disseminate or make public in violation of Article 287 (1) of Criminal Code.
