  1. I was in MBK yesterday, and there are little laser engraving shops there, they'll do the whole back of your cell phone in a picture! amazing. So even though I can't get a whole iPad in the machine, I can fit one end so I'll have a 'partial'
  2. Like you said, boorish. Even if you can't count cards, just winning a lot will get you banned. If we have to have warnings on cigarette packs, there should be warnings at casinos. "If you win a lot, we'll ban you"
  3. No to mention the Buffet and Guinness. A welcome gathering after the alternate universe that is Laos. Speaking of alternate universes, f'in Huumlar sent me through a wormhole in the BTS. The next day when I met up with another friend, I suddenly became obsessed with the length of women's 2nd toes, in open toed footwear and it's presumably correlated relationship with my perceived level of sexual attraction to them. The longer the toe, the more attractive and feminine the woman. Don't know why. All this happened in the space of 5 minutes whilst I was waiting for a ferry. I'm sure I'm in an alternate universe, foot fetishes are not my bag, so to speak. I'm going back to the worm hole today to see if I can get back to my previous universe, perhaps I'll find a newer one.

    Snakes

Unless you know how to positively identify a snake, stay well away. In particular there is a green tree snake that is bright apple green and harmless, there is also a very poisonous viper that looks exactly the same. I saw a brown snake in my garden last week, about 5 ft long, I tried to kill it but it got away, shame, I was looking forward to a nice snake curry.
  5. You can have anything that wants to follow me around 😳
  6. Ahh but then we have the Flashermacian. Those who seek to emulate or follow the Flashermac. A bit like Machiavellian. Same same but different.
  7. BB. Sometimes you're a treasure. That's a great idea. Now. What to engrave. 'Goodbye and thanks for all the f**ks'. 'Sit on my face'. 'Property is NSA'. 'You know you like it that way'. Mmmm the possibilities are endless.
  8. From the women's point of view, selecting a mate that's not from her gene pool confers a better immune system (hybrid vigour) on her progeny. They are more likely to survive and thereto better able to continue their mother's genes.
  9. engraved ? for the lady you see
  10. Here's a goofy question. I wanna buy an iPad air, it I buy it online I can get it engraved. The website says available to ship within 24 hrs. So, in the collective wisdom of the board, does anyone think, that if I order it on Sunday morning, they would be able to deliver it to my hotel in Bangkok by Tuesday lunch time - slightly over 48 hrs? Any advice or guesses welcomed.
  11. Forgive my ignorance, but who was the Govt? Yellow? Red? Violet? Army? I don't know these things.
  12. From an evolutionary standpoint, it makes a lot of sense. Raiding war parties who win, take the women for a good reason, some of them go with not too much protest... And as an ancillary argument, at least 10% of women 'like a bit of stray'. This is based on anonymous studies into DNA taken from babies and parents at birth, where they discovered that 10% of children do not belong to the father. Several countries in the study, so it's quite wide spread. Ahem...
  13. And always remember, Nicolaus Copernicus. But I will say, that the Climate Change proponents do have some science on their side. But what they're seeing, in my view, is not long term enough. I know very few graphs, that take a straight line and continue it forever. _____ Oooooohhhh! I remember one, a plot of the temperature of absolute 0, over time.
  14. I have a question. Which government instituted the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) ?

    Language

I can't do much except utter about 30 words in Thai and the same in Lao. Some of you have brains built for language learning, some of us, don't. An yet I can read, write and compose music. Who'd a thunk? I can decipher quite a bit of computer code too. But other languages? Cannot. BTW I know several folk here in VTE, German and French, who speak English better than I do and I'm not bad. There are also some Americans who seem to be able to get by in English, quite surprising really,
  16. I love this argument - I could talk about this for hours. But in a few bullet points here is my summation: Climate Change - always has - always will -humans or no humans. They were bloody clever to shift the name from Global Warming to Climate Change. As pointed out in posts above, we humans are really arrogant if we think we can influence nature in more than a passing, glancing way. A positive in all of this - with the exception of carbon taxes - everything proposed to combat Climate Change is a bloodily good idea, Climate Change or no Climate Change. Carbon taxes et al - every Politicians wet dream - Vast sums of money and taxes that no one in their right mind can refuse. All of the accurate modelling data we have is focussed on timespans of about 100 to 200 years. A time so short, that the natural variability of any graphing, will show it to be meaningless in the fullness of time. It's a Gnat's fart in the Universe. When Politicians and Marketing Experts scrabble over each other to get on the bandwagon, you know something's wrong. A lot of data is misrepresented by the media who generally have their heads up their arses when it comes to understanding anything that's not gossip. An unrelated example of this follows: "Young men's chance of colorectal cancer doubles!" When what they are describing is a rise from 0.03% to 0.06%, another Gnat's fart in the Universe. So, are we getting warmer? - probably Will the Oceans rise? - probably Will weather events become more extreme? - probably Is it our fault? - not much, perhaps in the order of 1 % Will what ever happens, happen anyway? - of course. Why are people called Climate Change Deniers? Because they needed a disparaging name, Climate Change Realist would not do their cause any good at all. Pity I haven't got 4 more hours to rave on about this....
  17. Is Yingie "Rejects the National Anti-Corruption Commission's authority to look into alleged graft in the rice-pledging scheme" Then why is she mounting a defence?
  18. It has two of my previous devious logins, but faaarrrked if I can remember the password or emails - so I registered anew.
  19. As noted, I'll be returning from the alternate universe that is the Glorious People's Republic of Idiocy, to attend. Thx to Kong for suggesting this meet. BTW I haven't been to Patpong for more than a decade, so the afternoon could follow on.
  20. "If democracy is the best there is, why shouldn't we take it to the extreme? Why not have separate elections for key sectors like education, agriculture, defence, foreign affairs, and so on? If we can't, tell me why." You don't need separate elections - NZ has one election - but - each party puts forward a 'shadow' minister for each position so the voters know who will get the important jobs. If you don't like some of them, vote for other parties. I agree with the article, Thailand is about democratically electing a dictator.
  21. From what I understand - and that's from the media - there was a cargo of containers, that was 2 or 3 times over the limits and this shifted in the turn causing the imbalance. But " The adults and children on board were told by the captain to remain in their cabins while the ferry was listing. " This is the cause of all the deaths...

    Flaming

You're so old fashioned, 1 finger to select then 2 fingers on the track pad to do.... hell there must be about 30 things I can do beside cut/copy/paste.... and this is just me laptop
  23. This has similarities to Air craft pilot training that was commented on in the media in the past. The best co-pilots were apparently Aussies because they wouldn't worry about second guessing the pilot or acting independently. The worst were the Koreans and the Japanese because they'd defer to the pilot always and never suggest he was wrong/drunk/asleep/absent. It all changed though and I'm told that now pilots are trained to have initiative. Maybe ship personnel should have similar training in Asia. I am also told that one year, in Nong Khai, there were big floods one year , because the sluice gates (or similar) were not opened. The reason was the boss who had the key to the padlock on the door was away for the weekend. No-one was prepared to break the padlock or the door or contact the boss. This could be sheer laziness or another example of face saving for the boss, who would have had to admit that he forgot to leave the key with someone, indicating that he was not only unfit for the job but a dolt of the first order that could be out-thunk by a Western 5 year old.... but I rant...
