When Queen Victoria sent her Soldiers to New Zealand and "Conquered/Colonised/Came to a Treaty Agreement" all those year ago, she must have done it for some sort of wealth aggregation. I wonder what the financial benefit, to her pile of money was. Even though NZ has since become somewhat independent, I would not be surprised if NZ is still sending some sort of payment or wink wink "royalty" to her descendants. And then I came across the following story: Bona Vacantia. In which people, who die intestate, in some parts of Britain have their assets, given to the Royals. By sleight of hand and describing such, as something else, Charles makes a lot of "private income". Excerpt - "...Almost half of bona vacantia revenues – £29.5m over the last decade – have been spent by the duchy on what it calls “costs of palatinate administration and historical obligations”. The administrative costs are understood to be a reference to the operation of the bona vacantia system, including solicitors’ fees. The reference to “historical obligations” is more opaque. It includes the Savoy chapel but appears in large part to be spent on “upkeep of castles and historic monuments”... " Well worth the read: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2023/nov/24/kings-estate-facing-questions-over-14m-in-bona-vacantia-not-donated-to-charity
  5. A tragic incident occurred during a fire extinguishing exercise at a sugar factory in Uttaradit Province where a gas tank exploded, resulting in the death of an instructor. The victim, identified as Mr. Surachart, a municipal officer. His body was initially taken to the hospital for a post-mortem examination before being handed over to relatives for religious rites. According to officials, the gas tank explosion occurred during a fire extinguishing drill. Preliminary information indicates that the tank involved was a modified cooking gas cylinder, refilled with flammable liquid and nitrogen gas to be used in the drill. (oooh!) The equipment had been in use for an extended period. At the time of the incident, the deceased victim was in charge of controlling the valve on the tank. The police are currently investigating the incident to determine the exact cause. (TNA) https://www.pattayamail.com/thailandnews/gas-tank-explodes-during-fire-drill-killing-1-in-uttaradit-446079

    BLAM!

You do realise that I'm taking a piss, on both side's declared religions, that both, state they are for, peace and loving their fellow men? But all you need, is one from each side, alone in a room and fighting and probably death, results.

    BLAM!

I think I've said this before, but for memory's sake - again-illy: Put a wall (not a concrete one), a wall made of the rest of the world's military forces, around the lot of them, Israel, Gaza, West bank. Supply weapons into the enclosed areas. And when they've finished, declare that man, King of the rubble. Then go home, let him rebuild the rubble, in what ever religious or philosophical manner he wishes to.
  8. Yes one hopes they get their act together, they no longer fly to NZ, but they did, and were the reliably cheap way to get to Laos, LOS and of course Nana. Before then, as the saying goes, "men were made of steel, ships of wood and the sheep were scared".

By Kittisak Phalaharn - Wednesday, 22 November 2023, 0:34 https://thepattayanews.com/2023/11/22/thai-authorities-seize-illegal-python-skins-and-carcasses-in-phichit-raid/ On November 20th, 2023, Thai Natural Resources and Environmental Crime Suppression (NED) officers launched a search operation on four different locations in Mueang Phichit, and confiscated 12 wild pythons, 5 sheets of dried python skin, and other wild animal carcasses. According to the report from NED officers, an anonymous source reported that there was illegal dissecting of pythons to skin them and sell them abroad as accessories. The NED officers then gathered evidence and requested a search warrant from the Thai courts. As a result, an unidentified alleged owner of the goods was pressed with charges of unlawful possession of protected wildlife and carcasses without permission according to the Wild Animal Preservation and Protection Act. Furthermore, NED officers stated to Thai national media after the investigation that nowadays pythons are wanted for their skin and organs. A python could be sold alive for 80 baht per kilogram and their skin was worth 1,000 baht per meter. ___
  10. When folk have no anti(something) protests to go to, in NZ, they turn their minds to other things: Link "The assistant noticed that the notes were fake, as they were printed on paper and the hologram, taken from a genuine $50 note, had been attached using sellotape.” Brilliant! I’ve got lots of $100 notes, now I can make lots more and no one will know !

Though, t'were me, I'd remove the word's "at least" because they imply that something remaining white is a good thing amongst other not white = not good things. To remove those two words, would still show the Disney hypocrisy. And the state of the U.S.A.

And again demonstrating the maturity of this forum. (not sarcasm, reality) We are all gentlemen of intellect and discernment. I can't imagine what some would make of this, if it were posted elsewhere. It's the kind of thing Musk would post with a straight face and ignite a fire storm. As MPIH says - wicked!
  13. I just watched this. Yes, whilst it's the usual Tom Cruise fare, it's pretty good. I'm looking forward to the next instalment. A someone who has been using photoshop for 30 odd years I must comment on Tom Cruises's face. It's not the make up. It's the Ai that they've used, in parts of the action. It looks like, it's subtly bad plastic surgery, but he's too rich for that to be true. Sometimes it's like he forgot how to act. The Ai does a pretty good job, if you're not looking for it, but Tom is "different". Any hoo, worth some popcorn and maybe a brace of beer.

  15. I watched this and as a movie, I liked it and enjoyed it. Not earth shattering, but interesting. They did reasonable service to science, in that they got it mostly right at a level, that the public will feel comfortable with. If 10% of the audience understand 10% of the science in the movie, we're well served.
  16. In case we've not been paying attention, to the recent rise in antisemitic feeling being made in public, it appears that folk like Eion Musk are in, boots and all. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/nov/16/elon-musk-antisemitic-tweet-adl We're already discussing related matters in this Thread And if we factor Musk and other's attitudes, with the resurgent rise in fascism (see my Post), we might be heading for another nasty period in History. Maybe I'm alarmist, I'd like that to be so.

Torsak Sukvimol, the commissioner general of the Royal Thai Police, publicly revealed the expungement of more than 9.3 million out of 13 million convictions within 2 years. Thai reporters mentioned Ex-Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, currently undergoing treatment in the Police General Hospital, and whether he is in the criteria for expungement or not. Pol. Gen. Torsak answered to Thai reporters that Thaksin is not in the criteria as he committed felony crimes with a sentence of more than 1 year... https://thepattayanews.com/2023/11/17/over-9-3-million-convictions-expunged-in-thailand-thaksin-shinawatra-currently-not-eligible-for-criteria/
  20. Despite the government’s efforts to take strict measures to control gun violence following the shooting of a 17-year-old at Paragon in October, there have been at least two other incidents in Bangkok recently. The first incident occurred on Saturday, November 11, when a group of teenagers were involved in a shootout in which Maria Sirada Sinprasert, also known as “Teacher Jeab” who teaches computer skills at Sacred Heart Convent School, was accidentally shot. She was shot in front of TMB Thanachart Bank, Khlong Toey Branch, Sunthorn Kesa Road. She later died in hospital. A group of parents and students of Sacred Heart Convent School laid flowers to mourn the loss of “Teacher Jeab” Maria Sirada Sinpraserton on November 13, in front of TMB Thanachart Bank, Khlong Toey Branch. On Monday morning, November 13, there was another incident when two groups of teenagers exchanged gunfire and explosives. A 15-year-old 5th grade student was killed in the crossfire near the entrance to Soi Phatthanakan 53, which runs parallel to the Bangkok-Chonburi motorway in Suan Luang district. Anutin Charnvirakul, the Interior Minister, spoke out in favour of banning all Thai citizens from carrying weapons. “We cannot allow people to carry guns because if students and teachers are shot like this, can society bear it? It’s not just about vocational students, it’s about everyone,” said Anutin. A 15-year-old 5th grade student was killed in the crossfire near the entrance to Soi Phatthanakan 53. Anutin also addressed the problem that there are more than 10 million legally owned firearms in Thailand. He explained that instead of allowing individuals to carry guns for self-defence, it is crucial to strengthen trust in the law and the state to ensure public safety. He emphasised the need for a stricter legal framework... https://www.khaosodenglish.com/news/2023/11/13/all-thais-are-banned-from-carrying-guns-after-tragedies/
