  1. Didn't Ertha Kitt replace Julie Newmar as Catwoman in the 60's Batman TV series??
  2. Considering Texas is near the bottom in States that have a high percentage of its population without health insurance, the money should have gone to them, not public employees that retired early. If they want health insurance under the current rules, let them work until they reach 65. I really hope that the movement towards reducing the strength of public employee unions sweeps the nation and takes their retirement pension away and makes them pay for most if not all of their health care insurance. Being a public employee for 20-25 years shouldn't allow one to retire early, receiving most of their retirement and all of their benefits.
  3. I'll probably be voting for Obama. It sounds like the Republican front runners have promised to gut, sabotage the implementation of the health care law. I'll be glad when 2014 rolls around and most people that oppose obamacare realize its much better than what we have now.
  4. I now know who I won't vote for, Texas Gov Perry. All because the Gov. of my state, Brownback, endorsed him. You could call Brownback "Perry lite" because Brownback wants to turn Kansas into a mini Texas, with no income tax, few government benefits, high percentage of citizens that do not have health insurance and a low educational ranking. Now, if Brownback brings back the active use of the death penalty in Kansas (like Texas), I might change my mind (but I doubt it).
  5. How will you use medicare while living in LOS? Easy to use if you come down with cancer and go back to the U.S. for treatment. But if you have an emergency illness, like heart attack or are hit by a bus while on your motorcycle, you can't go back to the U.S. for short term treatment. Concerning SS, I'm sure all the people retired over the last 40 years appreciate your contributions to the system. If it were me, I would be thankful to have enough money saved for retirement that I didn't have to count on SS.
  6. I just wrote Hershey's chocolate off as a product that I would ever buy.
  7. Personally, I would have liked to see how brave he would have been facing a firing squad, hanging or the electric chair.
  8. Let me know when you see an ad by a hospital that shows comparison pricing. The only time I see it is for lasic and plastic surgery, both of which are largely not covered by insurance. When Americans finally realize that there is no "free lunch," and price should be a major consideration (along with the doctor's track record)in deciding which medical care is appropriate for each person. In the meantime, I'll vote with my feet and take my elective medical care overseas.
  9. I have an intense dislike of Bank of America, although I have one checking account with them to make it easier to direct deposit my trust fund check (B of A handles the trust). They have the highest fees for overdrafts. They process checks 24/7 (and process checks that are debiting an account much faster than they process deposits). Once that overdraft hits your account, you are liable for the $35 charge (I have another bank that has provisional charges to your account when a debit or check comes in. As long as you cover it by the end of the day, there is no charge). Managers of B of A are paid and promoted according to how much they can screw out of their customers with fees. Its not surprising that they wouldn't pay the legal fees. If it were me, I would have kept everything taken from the bank for a few days and let the manager explain to his boss why the bank was closed for a few days. In my case, the trust is being dissolved this month, the money is being put in my B of A account. I will then close the account and have nothing further to do with B of A.
  10. Wasn't Warren Harding President in the 1920's (and a Republican, to boot). I think he is about as bad as they get. Of course, today there is no need for a President to bestow political favors for favoritism after he leaves office (in other words, money). Between the book deals and fees for speeches, they can do alright by themselves. Just be thankful that Obama doesn't have any children old enough to be President (I seriously doubt if his wife wants the job).
  11. Make sure you get an apartment that is dog friendly. The first thing I would do is get your dogs back.
  12. Assuming you could take a neutral position, as sthe sixties was a very polarizing decade.
  13. How far back did you take those courses? 1960's?
  14. The only way the S.C. would overturn Obamacare is because it forces everyone to get health insurance (or pay a tax). I really don't think there is much of a chance the S.C. will overturn the law on that basis, but if they did, the law could be structured to remove the provision to force everyone to get health insurance and be structured to provide "incentives" for those that don't get health insurance(such as paying more for premiums the longer you go without health insurance). I really hope that you don't pin your hopes on a republican president and congress reversing Obamacare. The Senate, with 40 votes, could block that (just as Republicans have used the filibuster threat repeatedly over the last 2 years).
  15. Next, I can see a Snake Plissken statue in Central Park.
  16. L.K. and Badabing, how much did you donate to make Detroit's dreams a reality?
  17. U.S. city to get RoboCop statue with fan funding DETROIT Feb 17 (Reuters Life!) - From sci-fi cult film, to Twitter phenomenon to Detroit landmark-in-the-making. Plans for a statue honoring RoboCop, the half-man, half-machine crime fighter of the 1987 movie, are moving ahead after a group of artists and entrepreneurs in Detroit, Michigan raised more than $50,000 via Facebook and an online fund-raising site. "It hit a sweet spot. It's a fun and funny idea to build a statue of RoboCop," said Jeff Paffendorf, who helped lead the project inspired by a whimsical suggestion sent to Detroit Mayor Dave Bing via Twitter last week. Bing tweeted back at the time that there were no plans for a RoboCop statue, an off-hand remark that bounced around the Internet and generated calls for him to reconsider. "There's violence in 'RoboCop,' but through the film RoboCop tries to do the right thing," Paffendorf said. Bing's office is still not convinced, but a spokeswoman said the city is studying how it could accept and display a gift RoboCop statue. "We know there are a lot of people that care deeply about the issue, and we respect that," said Karen Dumas of Bing's office. "But I'm still not sure that RoboCop is the best message for the city of Detroit." Paffendorf said the RoboCop statue could go somewhere downtown if the city approves, perhaps near the landmark fist statue honoring legendary boxer Joe Louis. But if Detroit will not allow RoboCop on city-owned land, a nonprofit arts group plans to display the statue, he said. Paffendorf said a sculptor and a metal artist have been chosen to complete the job.
  18. HH, I hope that I'm not being too personal, but WERE YOU A LAWYER? You must be, if you construe an implied promise that narrowly. Actually, I don't give a rat's ass about your medical history, but if you think that by giving me the cost of your last medical procedure, you given me (and the world through the internet) valuable personal history about yourself, you watch too much local news and the stories about the con artists that try to take advantage of the elderly. To prove that you were an MLB umpire, just tell me what year and league to google a picture of the MLB umpires for that year. I'm sure that I can pick you out.
  19. Thanks, HH (although you did implicitly promise me an answer after I answered first;I guess being a man of your word isn't high on your list, or stretching the truth by saying you were a professional umpire). Actually, living in Mexifornia, you would have a much better chance of an uninsured mexican hitting your car than I would in Kansas.
  20. HH, I'm still waiting for my answer. I'm pretty sure that, even if you give an answer, it won't be an answer to my question (just an observation about your answers to LK)
  21. I guess that I'll leave this private discussion to the ones that have posted over the last five pages. By you and others, I assume you are referring to HH, who hasn't responded to my answer of his question by answering my question, which I don't expect he will.
  22. So, would you support a law that de-couples one's health insurance from his job (and takes businesses out of the "I have to find the cheapest health insurance for my employees every year"), and has one rate offered to all customers? Otherwise, your statement (about supporting people having health insurance but not supporting a law that forces employers to fire employees over the new health law) is extremely contradictory.
  23. It would be interesting to pull my medical file, as I don't think that I have one, except for the 2 times that I have seen a doctor in the last 35 years. I did have an accident when I was 5-6 years old, where I fell down some stairs and spent several days in the hospital, but that was over 50 years ago. I don't think that I have any pre-existing condition but I bet a health insurance official could come up with one if I ever applied for health insurance.
  24. I have a thai wife and will probably be moving back to LOS around the time that I turn 65, so I may use the thai health care system for a lot of my medical needs and use medicare for procedures that are done far better in the U.S. (obviously not for medical emergencies) or for extremely expensive procedures that are not covered under the LOS health insurance that I plan on buying by the time I turn 65. Cav, I'm sure that you are right about the direction of medicare but it may take longer than 7-8 years to reach the point where it would be better for me to use a LOS health insurance policy exclusively.
  25. I'll answer your question if you answer mine. I'm 57 and have not had health insurance since graduating from college in 1975. In 35 years, I've spent $170.00 on two doctor's visits in the U.S. I've been very fortunate with very good health and not having any accidents. My father also never was hospitalied until he was in his late 70's (he had very good insurance in his lifetime, but that was a time when health insurance was reasonable). Its been 40 years since my last physical and I might actually break down and get one in LOS next month. If its any consolation to you, I plan on milking the health care system for what its worth after I turn 65. OK, now its your turn.
