  1. This is one of the best examples of journalism I've seen on the topic of the problems in southern Thailand.

     

    He even goes as far as to state “....who have shunned attempts to align themselves with Islamist terrorist organisations like al-Qaeda and Jemaah Islamiyah,â€

     

    We seem to have lost this in the United States. If you can't talk about a problem you can't fix it. Don't know as much as some about the southern Thailand insurgency but from what I do know this journalist has nailed it.

     

    I will buy a beer for the next Australian I meet as I am genuinely impressed.

    For the American relatives of the fallen, it was an outpouring of gratitude almost as stunning as the rows of white marble crosses and Jewish Stars of David at the Netherlands American Cemetery. Each grave has been adopted by a Dutch or, in some cases, Belgian or German family, as well as local schools, companies and military organizations. More than 100 people are on a waiting list to become caretakers.

    Which specific prospects for peace are damaged?

     

     

    “Prospect for peace†means that U.S. foreign aid needs to increase each year.

     

    After 99% of Palestinians are dead or gone the last five or six appear in a video thanking the Israeli soldiers for fighting the terrorists.

     

    After the video their house is given to a family from Moldava or Ukraine. Then they have to leave.

    Vatican officially recognizes Palestine, while Israel fumes

     

    The Vatican has become the latest country to recognize the state of Palestine, after a new treaty was finalized on Wednesday. Unsurprisingly Israel has hit out at the move, saying that it damages prospects for peace in the region.

    The treaty, which was agreed, though has yet to be formally signed states the Vatican has switched its diplomatic allegiance from the Palestinian Liberation Organization to the state of Palestine. It was finalized days before the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is due to visit Pope Francis.

    Abbas is traveling to the Vatican to attend the canonization of four new saints by the Pope, two of which are Palestinian nuns. The move to grant them sainthood has been described as a "sign of hope" for the region by the Latin patriarch of Jerusalem, Fouad Twal, Vatican Insider reports.

    Non-US citizens could buy these contracts as well but the tax requirements would probably be a hassle. These aren't deposits but are contracts with life insurance companies so when you buy it the money is gone. If you ever had an emergency you're screwed.

    It was the first chapter of the future bestseller, Sex and The American Soldier...can't say where or how I got this but I think this might be what was posted and then deleted:

     

     

    Corporal Mac was beginning to like this whole military life thing. The ride up San Juan Hill was a bit dusty. The Spanish troops threw their rifles to the ground and disappeared into the Cuban countryside.

     

    Three days prior...the day after the Spanish surrender... he traded his rifle for rum, Cuban cigars and a hot Cuban woman. Two days after his issue Colt Single Action Army went for more rum and a beach threesome with two grateful hot Cuban goddesses.     This year the Spanish...next year...1899....who knows? Freedom isn't free. Some leader somewhere in the world in a country nobody has ever heard of will manage to piss off a visiting U.S. politician somehow.

    I've been hoping for a book on GI sex during the Vietnam War. Maybe it was the first chapter or pics - Mac with hot Vietnamese women decades before viagra and internet porn.

    Just when you thought you'd heard it all: A report circulating throughout the Arabic-language media claims a leading Saudi cleric has issued a fatwa (religious ruling) permitting husbands to eat their wives (yes, eat them) in the event that they are really, really hungry.

    The report appeared among other places in the major pan-Arab, London-based Al Quds Al-Arabi, which cited the alleged edict by the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia Abdul Aziz ibn Abdullah Al-Asheikh permitting a husband to eat his wife if he is afflicted with "severe hunger".

    It claimed Al-Asheikh clarified that the husband could choose to eat her entirely or, if he wasn't that hungry, to limit himself to a limb or two, or a "portion of flesh."

    According to the report, the ruling's basis was that it exhibited the degree to which a woman should be devoted to her husband and desire for them to become "of one flesh."

    The alleged ruling provoked a storm of criticism and mockery in equal measure in Saudi Arabia and across the Arab world, particularly on Twitter, which is widely used throughout the gulf kingdom.

    The disagreements you are having are irritating for you but that is just the nature of the internet. People say things online that would be far more politely said in person.

     

    Your posts give both a female and a Thai perspective on some issues and that is something good to see on the board.
