1. THIS IS HOW YOU FIX CONGRESS!

    Congressional Reform Act of 2011

    1. Term Limits.

The rest is fine. I have serious issues with this however. It circumvents democracy -- who the people want to elect should be sacrosanct. I.e., we already have term limits: they are called elections.

Now if you want to say something like "no serving member of the Federal Government can work for a company with ties to the Federal Government for five years before & after their tenure," then I'd go for that.

EDIT -- Re-reading, I have an issue with #8 as well. Contracts are contracts, and are legally binding or the whole economic system flushes down the toilet (moreso than it is now). If they are broken, then some restitution has to be paid. That was certainly the GOP's stance on the Wall Street Billion$ bonuses using TARP money (gee, so figure: GOPers know why they are in office), even tho' not so much when it came to union contracts (once again, go figure. GOPers think: fuck the $15/hr guy since nothing will happen if they do!!!).

  2. He must publicly respect all religions - or NONE.

The point is is that is does. Moreso than any other POTUS ever. He's had Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, Christian, etc. stuff going on.

The burns the TeaBaggers asses then too bad. You said it yourself: respect them all, or none.

I'd prefer none. But to tell lies about what he is doing is just beneath you Flash.

  3. I can't imagine anybody with more than 2 brain cells voting for Barry this time around.

Well, the GOP is so shit scared of him they STILL have no viable candidates willing to run (WTF's with all the "exploratory committees?" A money grab from the HH-like sheep? Likely.) They are several months late declaring, given historical timings. :rotl:

And the more the RNC sucks Paul Ryan's cock over his "budget plan," the more votes they lose. Life is quite good right now, for us anti-GOPers.

  4. What? No Easter Greeting?

    by Keith Koffler

    April 25, 2011

Just when I thought the current team running the White House might have used up all its allotted mistakes comes word that President Obama failed to issue either an Easter or a Good Friday greeting to the nation.

Now, let’s forget for a moment that these greetings, which presidents issue on many holidays and commemorations of events, are largely perfunctory and symbolic gestures that nobody much cares about.

Until there’s a problem with them.

[color:red]Fox News first caught the blunder and put it into context that makes the omission insulting to Christians. The mistake is odd enough to call into question just what Obama’s priorities are.

By comparison, the White House has released statements recognizing the observance of major Muslim holidays and released statements in 2010 on Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Hajj, and Eid-ul-Adha.

The White House . . . did release an eight-paragraph statement heralding Earth Day. Likewise, the president’s weekend address mentioned neither Good Friday or Easter.

Obama, Fox notes, did head out to church yesterday and held an Easter prayer breakfast at the White House last week.

Obama is on a roll for religious holiday greeting screw ups. Fox News writes:

In 2010, Obama was criticized for releasing an all-inclusive Easter greeting. He reached out to Jews, Muslims, Hindus, and people of no faith at all in a statement about a holiday that is uniquely Christian.

And as I noted last week, the president released a Passover greeting this month that compared the ancient Jewish exodus from Egypt to the Arab political awakening this year, which would be a beautiful thing if most Arabs didn’t seek Israel’s destruction.

The president is, of course, hosting the Easter Egg Roll at the White House today. But Easter isn’t really about rolling eggs on a manicured lawn, now is it?

Does this guy really want to be reelected? :surprised:

Really, you can't do any better than that? The intertubes derail such bullshit lies quite effectively. You should use it for more than just porn LOL!

Obama hosted an Easter prayer breakfast last week, during which he told attendees the following:

[color:purple]"I wanted to host this breakfast for a simple reason -- because as busy as we are, as many tasks as pile up, during this season, we are reminded that there's something about the resurrection -- something about the resurrection of our savior, Jesus Christ, that puts everything else in perspective.

"We all live in the hustle and bustle of our work... But then comes Holy Week. The triumph of Palm Sunday. The humility of Jesus washing the disciples' feet. His slow march up that hill, and the pain and the scorn and the shame of the cross. And we're reminded that in that moment, he took on the sins of the world -- past, present and future -- and he extended to us that unfathomable gift of grace and salvation through his death and resurrection.

"In the words of the book Isaiah: "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

"This magnificent grace, this expansive grace, this 'Amazing Grace' calls me to reflect. And it calls me to pray. It calls me to ask God for forgiveness for the times that I've not shown grace to others, those times that I've fallen short. It calls me to praise God for the gift of our son -- his Son and our Savior."

Put it this way: Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Hajj, and Eid-ul-Adha didn't get this kind of treatment, even tho' we supposedly are a secular nation and treat all religions equally.

The other point to keep in mind is that George W. Bush was in office for eight years. So just how many Easter proclamations do you think that supposedly fundie "pious" jerk issue?

Zero. And being an atheist, I congratulate him for that.

  5. Considering that since the stimulus took effect, the stock market has went from 7000 to 12000+ and we've added 4x more jobs to the rolls than Bush did in 8 freakin' years, I can see your point.

    If i were an idiot.

But I'm not. So that only leaves one of us as the idiot, Mr Atwater...

  6. I wish you wingnutz would just be honest about the real reason they are obsessed with this subject. As Lee Atwater said: [color:purple]You start out in 1954 by saying, "Nigger, nigger, nigger." By 1968 you can't say "nigger" — that hurts you. Backfires. So you say stuff like forced busing, states' rights and all that stuff. You're getting so abstract now [that] you're talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you're talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is [that] blacks get hurt worse than whites. And subconsciously maybe that is part of it. I'm not saying that. But I'm saying that if it is getting that abstract, and that coded, that we are doing away with the racial problem one way or the other. You follow me — because obviously sitting around saying, "We want to cut this," is much more abstract than even the busing thing, and a hell of a lot more abstract than "Nigger, nigger."

I would at least respect you for telling the truth. Not for anything else, mind you. But at least for having the balls to say what they mean.

  7. The Long Goodbye. A Robert Altman-directed Raymond Chandler/Philip Marlowe adaption.

It was an Altman. What can you say? It was (of course) excellent, in a "neo-"noir kinda way. Not as dark as a Lynch film, nor as comedic as, say, M*A*S*H* by Altman, but highly entertaining regardless. And makes one long for the LA of the mid-70s. So very cool! Marlowe's High Tower apartment...how bad-ass is that?

Makes me sad they are going to try to remake that one too. I am so pissed off about remaking Dudley Moore/John Gielgud's Arthur. Now this. FFS Hollywood, get an original idea, you lame-ass idiots! Remaking classics is pathetic.

If they try to remake Bullitt, I'll personally go over there and kick some ass LOL!

  8. Imagine that. The past 30 years the GOP has promoted this mega-company thing with unfettered free-market theories (and simply ignoring or repealing any anti-trust or monoploy laws). Well, that's what happens: just like in Teddy R's day, the near-monopolies get greedy because they can. Natural fallout of bad policy...

What are you gonna do about it? Six banks control 70% of the banking in the USA. If they wanna charge you $20, you'll have little choice but to suck it up.

  9. Gotta love the DKs! And HST and Depp, of course...

We had two bags of grass. Seventy five pellets of mescaline. Five sheets of high powered blotter acid. A salt shaker half full of cocaine. A whole galaxy of multi colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers. Also a quart of rum, a quart of tequila, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyl's. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the...

  10. Elephant White.

Set in Thailand. Don't waste your time, even with Kevin Bacon and Djimon Hounsou as stars (and I like them both). Thai director Prachya Pinkaew did this, and he has a long list of bad shit, even tho' he did "Chocolate" which was actually pretty OK.

And the copy I saw was a "working editing copy," from a local torrent, but it doesn't matter. Nothing can save this one.

The only fun was trying to pick out the shooting locations while laughing at the movie. And Bacon's character's accent -- not horrid, but not convincing either. An unnecessary exercise, I'd say.

    YMMV. :dunno:

  11. I remember fixing a thai boxing match at hillary bar as well.

Thought that fix was at Pink Panther during a combined Nanapong outing (involving a farang contestant)? However I could have my fight fixes mixed up. :D

    That deffo happened! :grinyes:

  12. LK...civics lession from YOU? Now, that is rich! Yes, please, cite me where in the "Thomas Register" I can read the minutes of the committee meetings. PLEASE. Unless you're looking for a manufacturing source for more- effective bullshit spreaders, I suggest that you try the "Congressional Register" first. :rotl::rotl::rotl::rotl::rotl: (Back to Matchbook U for you, son.)

Hey, give me a break. It was 0300 and I was pissed. You know what reference I was referring to! http://thomas.loc.gov/

    :neener:

  13. (I have not looked as I think both of you are missing the big picture and focused on minute matters of order. ("Order" as in "Robert's Rules of Order"))

Mate, you know we're just spouting BS between us for fun. So good move saving your time LOL!

  14. They were invited to participate a 1' date='000 times. Fuckin' pussy Obama practically sucked their cocks to get them to the table. And gave in to ANYTHING the GOP wanted, hence such a crappy bill. And the GOP still stayed home.

    [/quote']

I happened to watch the TV coverage (live) of the big healthcare pow-wow organised and orchestrated by Obama. Fucking joke. It was supposed to be an opportunity for the GOP to present their ideas. All Obama would say was something like "it's something to think about". I don't ever recall him saying "good idea". Somebody put a timer on the speakers. Guess what? Even though there were basically the same number of Demos and GOP legislators at the meeting, Demos were given the floor to talk about 3/4 of the time...and Barry took up about 3/4 of that time. So don't call it bullshit. The bullshit is the 2500 page Obamacare legislation. A fucking monkey at a keyboard could have done better.

    Once again, bull-fuckin'-shit.

Obama did not run any committees. He is the Executive. The Congress makes the laws. Need you a refresher in civics?

The GOP chose to either vote NO or not add anything to the discussion. The changes from the original were misguided bait to get the GOP to participate (a weak-dicked idea from the Dems). They chose not to. Not the Dems fault. Need I go to the Thomas Register and bring out the minutes of the committee meetings???? It is all public record.

You are obviously full of shit if you think Obama had anything -- save non-binding suggestions -- to do with the bill, until the final sign-off. Back to school for you!

  15. From what I understood the USA system was suppose to be similar.

i.e. Person works in a restaurant:

WHAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN UNDER O'BAMA CARE: Small restaurant without much profit or any profit at the end of the year. The employeers cost would be almost zero if not zero. Employee gets sick. The employee gets medical care and doesn't have to file bankruptcy. The insurance company is charged one of the smallest amounts for the service.

Real world: Restaurant owner has to provide health insurance to all employees if he is over a certain number. (25 I think' date=' not sure.) Lowest quote came in at about $1.5k per person per year. At that level, if 30 people are employed, restaurant pays 45k off the bottom line for ins that it was not paying before. Result: If this is a small establishment, restaurant fires enough employees to be below the standard.

One guy I know said he thought he might be able to do it and survive but was not willing risk it so he fired 10 people and became his own cleaning crew and host staff.[/quote']

While I doubt the numbers and a lack of a solution, you still make a PERFECT case for Medicare for All (i.e., public option) versus private (read that: employer) funded healthcare. Just like every other 1st world nation on the planet!

I'll reiterate: the GOP wanted to kill the public option and loved them some mandate (once again: Heritage, 1994) until the brother in the White House made it so...

  16. LK, you keep saying the GOP didn't propose any plan for four years. That's a blatant falsehood. Further, as the process was hurried along, they were decidedly locked out of meetings in which the plan was put together.

    Bull-fucking-shit.

They were invited to participate a 1,000 times. Fuckin' pussy Obama practically sucked their cocks to get them to the table. And gave in to ANYTHING the GOP wanted, hence such a crappy bill. And the GOP still stayed home.

Stop rewriting history. Hell, I seriously had a wingnut today tell me that the Dems were in charge of Congress for most of W's reign!

The cognitive dissonance of the wingnut mind never ceases to amaze.
