  1. "I Love You Phillip Morris" has had its USA release dates changed several times. Was July and now looks like Oct.

It's a French production and the Luc Besson backed EuropaCorp says it never got the full $3 million advance that the US distributor Consolidated agreed to pay last year.

So it's up to the courts.

  2. The very good Romanian movie "4 luni, 3 saptamani si 2 zile" (a movie about the illegal absortions during Ceaucescu era) that was Palme d'or at Cannes two years ago.

English title is "4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days". I saw it several months ago and thought it excellent.

Just watched "Un prophète" -- English "A Prophet" -- French with English subtitles.

Newcomer Tahar Rahim plays Malik El Djebena, a 19 year-old Arab guy about to start a six-year stretch in prison for what appears to be violence against police officers. Malik is very frightened, cringing almost visibly into his clothes.

His apparent vulnerability catches the eye of César, the Corsican mobster with the guards in his pocket – incomparably played by Niels Arestrup. César needs someone to whack a fellow prisoner. who is about to incriminate his associates on the outside by turning state's witness. Guess who he chooses to be the whacker?

Excellent -- goes well beyond the usual prison picture cliche.

  3. - Ironman 2: I don't understand the mass appeal of these films, though Robert Downey plays the character well -- I hate the dialog and predictable nature of... everything. And I'm not one of the guys that hates blockbusters. LOVED Die Hard. Still do. But Iron Man's big appeal puzzles me.

Maybe it's your age. Mate of mine's 9 & 10 year olds thought it was great.

  4. Iâ??m Not There

6 actors play various incarnations of Bob Dylan - Couldnâ??t finish watching it. A film experiment that turns dull and boring.

    4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 days

Romanian film about a uni student having a (very illegal) abortion. Excellent film but not exactly uplifting â?? LOL - subtitled

    The Lives of Others

Excellent - a thriller - 1984 â?? East Germany â?? a Stasi Captain (the late Ulrich Mühe) who has almost but not quite been eaten up by the system spies on a thoroughly decent man. subtitled

    Superbad

Itâ??s the last year of high school and our two heroes gotta get laid before theyâ??re off to uni.

Mildly amusing at best. Too long and mostly too predictable.

Before the Devil Knows Youâ??re Dead

Two brothers decide to rob their parentâ??s Westchester jewelry store. Nothing can go wrong. Another great performance by Philip Seymour Hoffman. Likely, now 85, Sidney Lumetâ??s last picture. Worth a look if you like the genre. Surprisingly did <$10M box office.
