  1. A news reporter on TV displayed a 30-round magazine to make a point. This happened in DC where it's illegal to even possess a 30-round magazine. So now, the news is about whether this reporter violated the law. http://www.huffingto..._n_2364637.html In MD, it's OK to possess 30-round magazine but illegal to transfer it. So if you want a 30-round magazine in MD, you have to go across the border to VA where transfer is legal, buy it there, and bring it back to MD. Staying legal can be hard work for gunowners.
  2. My take is that you don't shoot in a mild situation -- at least where I live in MD. In a home defense situation, you don't shoot unless your life or or your loved one's life is threatened, in which case I wouldn't mess with a bird shot. Breaking into a home is not a capital offense, so you can't shoot a person just for breaking and entering. Here are some scenarios: You confront a bad guy who has broken into your home. You yell, HALT!!! He runs away. You don't shoot while he's running away, just call police. If intruder halts, then you call the cops with one hand and have the other hand for the gun that will be pointed at the intruder. For this, handgun is better. If the intruder lunges or points a gun toward you, after you yell "HALT," you shoot (and I don't mean birdshot). ****MERRY CHRISTMAS****
  3. I was in the military also during the Vietnam War era but didn't hunt Viet Congs like you did. I ended up in Germany. Most of the action I saw involved German beer, frauleins, and songs.
  4. Are you sure the shock wave didn't cause that red burst on the target? I have the M44 carbine and it throws out quite a fire ball; its like shooting a hand canon. http://www.mouseguns.com/compare.htm
  5. I was supposed to go deer hunting this year. Instead, I went down to the range and shot a paper target, which I imagined to be a deer, with my 30.06 bolt action rifle. BANG!!!!! The bullet hit one inch below dead center at 100 yards. A deer would have been dead for sure. After that one shot, I packed up my bags and called it my deer hunting season.
  6. T There are circumstances when it's correct to stand your ground. There are other SHTF scenarios than LA riot and Katrina. (do a google search of 'shtf scenario')
  7. When SHTF, you and your family could be facing roving gangs of looters, rapist, and murderers. A few assault weapons would come in handy in a scenerio like that to protect yourself, your family, and your property -- at least until order can be restored.
  8. I just heard on NBC news that about 6% of the US population have serious mental illness. Most are not treated. Needless to say, you would likely find the mass killers in this 6% group.
  9. Lot of these people in USA with assault weapons are preparing for the Zombie Apocalypse. http://www.guns.com/...-zombie-gun-m4/ I have read cases where assault weapons were used by shopkeepers to hold back mobs of looters during riots in US cities.
  10. Looking at the stats, it's surprising that, in the USA, twice as many people commit suicides using firearms than murders using firearms. Also, it's been reported (USA Today) that deaths caused by mass killers represented about 1 percent of all homicides between 2006 and 2010. The CDC estimates that deaths from firearms, which include suicides and accidents, are estimated to rise to 33,000 in 2015 and exceed auto-related deaths which will fall to 32,000.
  11. US firearm laws vary depending on where you live . They are more strict in places like DC, MA, and MD. In MD, for example, transfer of handguns and assault weapons (AK47, AR-15, etc) between private individuals must go through a FFL (Federal Firearms Licensee) and a background check.
  12. Are you implying that she's called in sick just to avoid testifying before the Senate Hearing on the Benghazi attack? That whole Benghazi affair doesn't smell right. She may have a lot to hide. I would expect that she would have to testify eventually. (imagine Hillery Clinton in a hospital bed being wheeled in to testiy, like they did Mubarack in Egypt )

    A Good Red wine..

It is 2012. Beaujolais Nouveau is really bad now. It was bad last year also. There were actually stems and leaves in the bottle last year. This year, there is a hint of decaying flesh in the taste. I may not even try it next year.
  14. Close most of the 1000 or so US military bases around the world. US spends 10x more in defense than the rest of the world combined.
  15. One way to bring in revenue is to raise the tax rate for the high income earners. During the Kennedy and Eisenhower era, the top tax rate for the rich was about 90%. It's about 35% now. Also, legalizing, regulating, and taxing some illegal drugs will bring in revenue, along with decrease in prison population and drug related crimes. (It goes without saying that there has, is, and will be opposition to any change.) About half the prison population in the US are there for drug related offenses, so there is a potential to save tons of money by revising the drug laws.
  16. Drilling for oil with water pressure also produce abundant natural gas, the price of which has been very low lately.
  17. I heard on the news recently that California is turning Democratic big time; and California has historically been the leading indicator for the rest of the nation. Even Texas was reported to be turning blue. Republicans have been pushing the idea for a long time that it's better to take from the poor and give to the rich (because the crumbs will somehow trickle down from the tables of the rich to the poor ), so it will probably take a while for them to come around, more than 4 yrs IMHO.
  18. Race has a lot to do with it. Some people just can't tolerate having a black for Pres. What I'm wondering is the legal aspect. A petition like that sounds like sedition.
  19. If Romney gets only 36.5% of the popular vote, it would be worse than what Goldwater got against Johnson and the worst showing by a candate since the early 1800's. He and his "binder of women" would be laughed out of town.
  20. I've been noticing that Willard sounds more and more like a Democrat as we get closer to the election. Maybe his stategy is to sound more like a Democrat than Obama. He can always revert to his old Republican self if he wins.
  21. As you state, the Republicans are for the rich. What amazes me is how thay are able to win any elections at all when the rich is only a small fraction of the population. They have somehow convinced a lot of low and middle income folks to vote against their interests. Are people dumb? ...sometimes Are people fooled? ...sometimes I think the Republican strategy is to confuse the low and middle class and fool them into voting Republican.
  22. I was a Democrat last election. This year, I'm with the Justice Party. They believe that there should be universal health care, free 4-years of college for all, and prosecution of people who authorized torture. They have other ideas I support.
  23. There are parts of the Bible that condemn drunkenness. “For the drunkard and the glutton will become poor, and grogginess will clothe [them] in rags†(Proverbs 23:21). “Let us walk with decency, as in the daylight: not in carousing and drunkenness…†(Romans 13:13). “Do not be deceived: no sexually immoral people, idolaters… [nor] drunkards… will inherit God’s kingdom†(1 Corinthians 6:9-10). “Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, moral impurity, promiscuity, idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and anything similar, about which I tell you in advance—as I told you before—that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God†(Galatians 5:19-21). “An overseer, therefore, must… not [be] addicted to wine†(1 Timothy 3:2-3; see also Titus 1:7). “Deacons, likewise, should… not [be] drinking a lot of wine†(1 Timothy 3:8). “And don’t get drunk with wine, which [leads to] reckless actions, but be filled with the Spirit†(Ephesians 5:18).
  24. Where I used to work, anything over six drinks per week was considered heavy drinking. That's less than one drink per day. The last time a Doc addressed my alcohol comsumption, he said: one glass of champaign on New Years Eve
  25. After reading your post, I was about ready for a nightcap, but it occurred to me that in the old days, life expectancy was much lower. Excessive drinking could have contributed to their early demise.
