  1. You shouldn't take my statement about Thai BGs literally. It's a hyperbole. I'm not trying to insult you. I'm trying to help out. A good writer should understand the difference between who and whom and how to use them in a sentence. I imagine if you have an exceptional talent for writing, grammar may be a minor issue that can be corrected by a proof reader.
  2. 'Whom share my beliefs' is like saying 'Them share my beliefs'. That's the way uneducated Thai BGs talk -- Him went to bar, him customer....
  3. "Lady Lucan, whose husband sparked an international manhunt after disappearing more than four decades ago, has been found dead at home. Police forced entry to the 80-year-old’s home in Westminster on Tuesday afternoon after she was reported missing and found her unresponsive. ‘Police attended an address on Eaton Row in Westminster … following concerns for the welfare of an elderly occupant. Officers forced entry and found an 80-year-old woman unresponsive’, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said." https://www.yahoo.com/news/lady-lucan-80-found-dead-home-police-force-entry-080642430.html <img class="yvp-provider-logo-img" />
  4. Good luck on your move! I remember a while back an expat posted that he and his Thai wife were also moving to Hua Hin. They were living in the Pattaya area. He thought his family would be treated better there.
  5. The amount (fixed fee in % of estate) paid to an estate attorney should be comparable to that paid to a real estate agent for selling a house.
  6. Getting a good estate lawyer is a start. It is important to determine what is in the estate and how much is owed. Nowadays, many accounts are paperless, so statements may not arrive in the traditional mail. Unless the passwords and the websites of the accounts are available, it may be difficult to determine what is in the estate.
  7. I think my wife started collecting Social Security when she was 62. She retired at 55 after working 30+ years for a regional utility company. She started receiving company pension at 55 and when she reached 62, she started receiving additional pension from social security.
  8. I retired at age 50. Generally, though, people should continue to work if you like the work. My expenses dropped quite a bit after retirement; and with more time to concentrate on my investments, I accumulated more wealth after retirement than before.
  9. They look like the ones I see when I come to LOS.
  10. Thanks. I told my grandson about this. His response was: 'let me see what the girls over there look like on the internet'.
  11. I'm going to check into this for my lazy grandson who's been living in my household for the last several years. He graduated last year from high school and is planning to go somewhere to college.
  12. Manila (AFP) - President Rodrigo Duterte has signed a law making education at all state universities free, a palace official said Friday, despite warnings from his economic advisors that the Philippines cannot afford it. https://au.news.yahoo.com/world/a/36613813/philippines-duterte-orders-free-state-college-education/#page1
  13. A couple of years ago, I was in a similar situation upon arrival in LOS. I had to make a connection in 30 minutes, but there were about a thousand people in front of me going through immigration. I was able to make the connection, however, by walking down the hall to another immigration area that was practically empty.
  14. I retired from a multi-national organization almost 20 yrs ago. My inflation-indexed pension has been more than enough for me.
  15. Some pensioners and investors have income over that amount.
  16. I would take this report with a grain of salt -- the number of US visitors to Thailand that they use appears to be more that an order of magnitude less that that reported in the Wikipedia.
  17. It's based on percentage of US travelers who died while visiting the countries. Also, the study excluded any country that received fewer than 100,000 American visitors between 2009 and 2016. PNG had less than 100.000 more than likely.
  18. "When the data is adjusted to account for Americans per capita, Pakistan turns out to be the most dangerous country. After that, Thailand, the Philippines, Haiti, and Honduras round out the five most dangerous countries." https://priceonomics.com/ranking-the-most-dangerous-countries-for-american/ It's a surprise to see LOS more dangerous than Haiti or Honduras.
  19. A few months back, I came across a tv series on traveling around the world without money -- using only your wits (it was on Netflix, I believe). I could not get past the first 15 minutes of watching it... but there may be a movement going on -- it's been glamorized, so to speak.

  21. Don't you think it would have been much easier if you had done it all online? I have never visited a Schwab office -- everything had been done online, quickly and easily.
  22. If you have a checking account at a US bank, you could probably use free ACH transfer to move money into accounts at Schwab. I use ACH transfer mostly to move money.
  23. Schwab is a good company to work with. I have an Investor Checking account and a brokerage account with them. I don't use the ATM card very often but they do refund fees.
  24. Your post reminds me of an American expat I knew down in La Ceiba, Honduras. We had many a drinks together. He also loved the boobs of the local hot women. He didn’t do the attractions down below, only boobs, big ones. He said he didn’t have to wear rubbers or worry about STDs that way. He would squeeze them together and ….
  25. For the last several years, I have been using zennioptical.com. They do excellent work, have an outstanding reputation, and ship world over. Prices are much less than brick and mortar places but you need a prescription and to upload your photo to try on glasses. My last annual eye exam showed that the glasses that I ordered from them a year ago were still still good and that I didn't need to get another one. They also make computer glasses, which basically corrects your far vision to distance between you and the computer. They have a formula that you can plug your prescription into for this. Because the prices are so low, I ordered two bifocal computer glasses in addition to my regular progressive transitions.
