  1. I was considering flying into Bangkok and out of Chiangmai on my next trip in April. After reading this, I'll reverse the process and spend a day or two in Bangkok at the end of my trip. I'll have to find a good Dentist in CM to replace a lower tooth that got knocked out last March in an industrial accident (part of board kicked off of miter box saw into face). Unless anyone can recommend one, I'll check the CM forum on ThaiVisa.
  2. I have a brother that has listened to Rush Limbaugh for over 25 years. Since then, he's advanced to reading all sorts of news outlets, with Brietbart being one of the more respected (oxymoron) ones. He's been a true believer for some time and I don't try to have any conversations with him about politics.
  3. Hillary Clinton is very smart, much smarter than her husband. She is a lawyer who has spent 50 years perfecting her craft, starting out as an assistant for the Watergate committee, going after Nixon associates that lied under oath. Legally, she knows what she is doing. I think that it's very unlikely that she lied under oath.
  4. Trump isn't going to be impeached or tried and convicted with Republican majorities in both the House and Senate. If either turns in 2018, all bets are off.
  5. As long as he is useful to the Republican leadership, he could be King George III or Caligula and still remain in power.
  6. And his administration (maybe even Trump) are talking/negotiating directly with the North Koreans. I'm sure China, South Korea and Japan have no problems with this.
  7. The Kansas City Star Hugh Hefner had a thing for blondes. You could see it if you spent Sunday nights watching him on the hit E! reality show “The Girls Next Door†from 2005 to 2009. The co-stars living with him in the Playboy Mansion looked like Barbie pinups — Holly Madison, Kendra Wilkinson and Bridget Marquardt. But Marilyn Monroe? She was his “first†blonde. And if the plans Hefner laid many years ago come to pass, he will spend eternity next to her. The Playboy publisher died Wednesday at age 91. The Daily Mail reported that Hefner’s body was driven away from the Playboy mansion early Thursday morning “to begin the journey to his final resting place next to Marilyn Monroe.†In 1992 Hefner spent $75,000 to buy the crypt next to Monroe’s at Westwood Village Memorial Park in Los Angeles. The actress died in 1962. “I’m a believer in things symbolic,†Hefner told the Los Angeles Times. “Spending eternity next to Marilyn is too sweet to pass up.†The two reportedly never met. But when he launched Playboy in 1953, Hefner bought a nude photo of her for a reported $500 from a Chicago calendar company and used her as his first “Sweetheart of the Month,†or Playmate, as it later became known. She appeared on the magazine’s first cover, too, wearing clothes. “First time in any magazine, FULL COLOR, the famous MARILYN MONROE NUDE,†the cover exclaimed. Monroe, he would say years later, “set the standard†for the magazine. “I’m a sucker for blondes, and she is the ultimate blonde,†he once said. In 2008 he told E! News the story behind that nude Monroe photo, taken four years before Hefner published it. “The picture was something that had been shot before,†Hefner told E! “It was a calendar photo shot by (pinup photographer) Tom Kelley. Most people had heard about it, but almost nobody had seen it, and nobody had seen it because the post office had taken the position that you couldn’t send nudity through the mail. And I’m the kid that didn’t think the post office had that right.†In grand understatement, he said the Monroe nude, which she never gave Playboy permission to use, “caused a sensation.†In 2011 The New York Times Magazine wrote that Hefner’s “greatest piece of luck was his choice of the first centerfold. It remains by far the sexiest of all Hefner’s pinups.†“It was a brilliant purchase for a magazine just being born — America’s newest star caught lushly in the nude, posing coyly on a red velvet drape,†journalist David Halberstam wrote in a 1993 story on Monroe. In her 2016 book “Trainwreck: The Women We Love to Hate, Mock and Fear, and Why,†author Sady Doyle noted the toll that nude picture took on the actress. It turned Hefner into an instant celebrity, Doyle wrote, but Monroe had to apologize for it and “feared for her career.†Her acting career took off a year after she posed for the nudes, which she did as a 23-year-old struggling actress needing money. She was so embarrassed that she reportedly signed the release form “Mona Monroe.†She later said her photos made their way into a pinup calendar that made millions after she became famous when all she got was a $50 modeling fee — enough for a monthly payment on her secondhand car, Halberstam noted. Doyle called Hefner’s purchase of the crypt next to Monroe’s “a gruesome joke ... ‘sleeping with’ the woman he’d almost ruined, and doing so without her consent — claiming her in death, as he’d claimed the right to exploit her in life.†Monroe herself seemed to have mixed thoughts on her famous Playboy appearance. “I never even received a thank-you from all those who made millions off a nude Marilyn photograph. I even had to buy a copy of the magazine to see myself in it,†she said in “Marilyn: Her Life in Her Own Words†by George Barris. “I admitted it was me who posed for that nude calendar even when the Fox executives became nervous and believed this would cause the ruination of any films I would appear in and also the end of my movie career. “Of course they were wrong. The fans, my public, cheered when I admitted it was me, and that calendar and that Playboy first-issue publicity helped my career.â€
  8. DdiMaggio probably didn't lose any sleep over the JFK and RFK Assassinations. I just think it's weird that he wants to lie in a mausoleum next to Marylyn Monroe for eternity. More power to him!
  9. In his first issue of Playboy, his centerfold was Marylyn Monroe. It turns out, he bought the resting place next to her and will be buried there. I don't think Joe DiMaggio would be very happy about this arrangement.
  10. So, she got 5 years, no probation. Can she appeal, or is she a permanent room mate of her brother now?
  11. Maybe you visited during our Memorial Day 3 day weekend?
  12. Congratulations BB! Don't rub it in because I still have almost 9 years before my son graduates from High School. I kept the house near CM (by the time I move back, it will be in the central part of CM). At least it's rented out and the rent will pay for upkeep and a fund to build a swimming pool when we get back(my wife's idea. All the best!
  13. Jake LaMotta, middle weight boxing champion and immortalized in the movie "Raging Bull," died at the age of 95. With all the pounding that he took in his fights, I wouldn't have thought that he would make 75, let alone 95. RIP!
  14. Veteran character actor Harry Dean Stanton has died at age 91. Film critic Roger Ebert once said, any movie with Harry Dean Stanton couldn't be all bad.
  15. Elephant Kingdom in Chonburi, Thailand © Jon Nok / SWNS In Elephant Kingdom, Thailand, at a Crocodile farm, the owner leases out a small semi-closed raft space for tourists to come visit, see and FEED crocodiles! The raft is a thin wooden one balanced on plastic barrels and has net enclosure half way around it. The shack has a roof too. The people get inside the enclosure and are given fishing rods to feed the crocs. They use beef or meat pieces attached to the rods and dangle the rods before the crocodiles. The reptiles then jump out of the water to catch the meat and their food. There are tourists who also tease the crocs by dangling the meat in front of them and then pulling it up as the hungry animals reach for it.

  18. Vietjet Rolls Back Bikini-Clad Flight Attendant Promotion First, American Airlines announces the end of free premium seats on full fare tickets and now this. Vietnamese budget airline Vietjet Air recently announced that flight attendants on its upcoming route from Jakarta to Ho Chi Min City will not be wearing bikinis. The airline’s deputy director for commercial affairs, Jay L Lingeswara, went on to say that the airline will now only be featuring bikini-clad flight attendants on “specific occasions.†[image Source: Vietjet]
  19. They are crying in the streets of Pars because their beloved recipient of the French Legion of Honor, Jerry Lewis, has died at age 91. His career started in the 1940's, playing the Catskills Mountain circuit. He met Dean Martin there and they teams up to become the most successful comedy duos of all time. After breaking up in 1958, Lewis went on to star and direct a series of successful comedies, culminating with "The Nutty Professor." Lewis was also a longtime spokesman and fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and appearing on the MDS Labor Day Telethon for the entire 24 hour period (along with Ed McMahon). I never understood the French fascination with Jerry Lewis and he had an enormous ego which helped break up Martin and Lewis. But when it came to kids, particularly sick kids, I wouldn't question his single minded devotion to help them in any way that he could. RIP!

  21. . OK, I'll bite. Was it the warm beer served by CE or the indifferent attitude of the stewardesses? I had 4 months from booking to the actual flight to read every negative review of CE (the positive reviews stated that you get what you pay for). I'll admit that I don't like flying through Chinese airspace and didn't appreciate the Chinese person behind me on the flight from Chiangmai to Hunan clearing his throat every 3 minutes and then spitting in a bag. From what I understand, CE customer service is crap, whether you have to call them or deal with them at the airport. Fortunately, there were no problems on my flight, so I had no dealing with them. Besides, the more money that I saved went into repairs at my Chiangmai house, which is the reason that I've gone back 3 times in the last 4 years. The house is now rented, so it's no longer a money pit for me.
  22. If price is your main consideration, it would be hard to beat China Eastern, particularly from Bangkok. I may use them this winter/Spring to fly lax-cnx, then bkk-lax. The return trip from Cnx has a overnight layover in Hunan. I'd much rather spend that night in Bangkok. The other consideration is China Eastern's poor on time record, in part because the Chinese government controls most air space above China. On my one trip with them, they were on time.
