  1. If you choose to view it in that light it certainly reflects a rather narrow point of view. This topic seems to address many aspects of Thai night life. Is whoring the only thing that comes to your mind when nightlife is mentioned?
  2. I was about to book my January flight today but, much like you Jack, I'm wondering how to maneuver through these uncharted waters. I took the day off work to celebrate my 70th BD but I'm not feeling too joyous at the moment...
  3. Wow, that's an eternity in cyberspace. Congratulations! Not many of us left but I still look in just about every day to see what's up... sounding like an old fart now but I do miss the Woodstock meetings. Those times were the best!
  4. At 85 lb. my wife has the same issues Flash, and will save all of her clothing purchases for the month we spend in Thailand each year.
  5. And no doubt Rosberg felt it would be better for his point lead (though obviously not for the team) to take Hamilton out even if neither of them finished. At this point do you think team orders would be followed by either of them?
  6. Not too many big men in F1, as they can't fit into the cramped and tiny cockpits. And show me one of these guys without a healthy dose of arrogance. Nico clearly ran Hamilton wide and was penalized for it; the Austrian crowd didn't see it that way and felt the need to boo the podium showing both their ignorance and bias for their fair-haired boy. Nico has spent his entire life racing Lewis and unfortunately for him never quite measuring up. He's obviously desperate to beat his teammate this year, and if he can't (and loses again to him for the third time out of three championships) no telling who will be gone from Mercedes next season. As much as he is favored by Toto and Niki they may have to send him off if he doesn't produce a title, as these two don't seem to be able to keep from crashing into each other. http://www.grandprix...ns/ns34309.html
  7. Speaking of which, I hope one of the 11 non-nos includes using the seat as a commode...
  8. He's great to watch, unstoppable in a decent car and tenacious in whatever he's piloting. I've even begun to like the guy as he's matured... couldn't stand him when he was younger. He (and Flavio) have so badly mismanaged his career, leaving both Mclaren and Ferrari too soon imho, that he's got to be frustrated with what could have/should have been.
  9. I'm on my 3rd iPhone (a 6s) after using Samsungs, Nokias, Motos and an Asus Zenfone.... not a fan of Windows or Android.
  10. Thanks for the suggestion Coss, I just returned from a few weeks' stay there and enjoyed the accommodations. The rates were reasonable and included a nice breakfast. Needless to say it's a much better neighborhood than Soi 5 where the wife had us staying the last 8 years or so.
  11. For Bill's eyes only..... And we all know what that led to....
  12. If this was the only one I'd watched I'd feel the same.
  13. Oh how I wish.... As for SB ha sip, after giving up on finding a venue open at 6:30 am in Muang Krabi, I discovered it right on my tv here in my little hotel on the hill. Quite a surprise considering that the only channels offered were local Thai language broadcasts. I had no interest in either of the teams and quickly lost interest in the game as well. The best part was listening to the commentary in Thai.
  14. The old one on Washington Square burned down before they could tear it down: anyone know where they relocated? IIRC it was somewhere on one of the odd-numbered sois in the 30s? Anyone been there?
  15. Yes it's still there although I haven't been back for years after a particularly bad meal served in their traditional poor manner. Some places that deserve to die seem to have the tenacity of the lowly cockroach, an apt comparison in this case.
  16. Back in Krabi again during the Super Bowl. Can anyone confirm the TrueVision broadcast or availability live on the internet?
  17. Another one gone... Earth Wind and Fire were the best back in the day.. Soaring harmonies, driving beats, solid percussion with great arrangements. Loved these guys, and still listen to them during workouts. Rip Maurice. The founder of soul group Earth, Wind & Fire, Maurice White, has died in the US, his brother has said. White, 74, died in his sleep in Los Angeles on Thursday morning. He suffered from Parkinson's Disease. His band had a series of hits including September, Boogie Wonderland, Shining Star and After the Love has Gone. The singer-songwriter was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 1992 but his condition was reported to have got worse in recent months. Earth, Wind & Fire were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000, and Maurice was individually inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2010.
  18. When I've been in Bangkok the last few years I've caught it at Hanrahans on Soi 4 ... not so easy to find a live telecast in meung Krabi that time of the day though. I've had to resort to driving around the city looking for an open bar, then asking if they can find the broadcast on their tuner...
  19. Higher elevations in the Bay Area actually woke up to a white Christmas; we had to settle for frost here in the Russian River Valley (Santa Rosa, CA) Feliz Navidad, Dudes... :santa: :santa: :santa: :santa: :santa:
  20. Thanks Jack, I'll make sure to check it out next month but somehow I feel that your above missive may be more entertaining...
  21. The treaties were largely ignored by the government but now the payback comes in the form of casinos here in California... The tribes are treated as sovereign nations by the Feds and therefore have no requirement to follow local zoning laws, so there's nothing the local municipalities can do to stop or control any new developments backed by officially recognized tribal councils.
  22. That belly's got to be at least a two-kegger... Isn't it amazing the state some people allow themselves to get into?
  23. Good on you Jack. Whatever comes to you in the future you now have this insight to console/enlighten/guide you through. PS. Met you years ago and thoroughly enjoyed your company...
