  1. Americans have rightfully been proud of their system of check and balances. After nearly two and a half centuries no one branch of government has succeeded in grabbing all power for itself. But it seems to me (as a Brit) that the world now has a problem because the government can't take difficult decisions such as fixing the deficit. Your founders designed the government to be weak but sometimes difficult decisions have to be taken. Sometimes I hear Americans say that Washington needs radical new ideas. But new ideas are impossible when there are elections every year. Sadly, America will go bankrupt eventually and take all my company issued share options with it.
  2. According to Wikipedia, there was a British Prime Minister who was born outside the British Isles - Andrew Bonar Law, born in Canada. His lack of aristocratic family connections helped him to broaden the base of the Conservative Party to include more businessmen.
  3. I have never understood this American constitutional class system where some Americans have more rights than others.
  4. I would be very sorry to see them go.
  5. The issue if Scotland votes for independence will be how much of the national debt they get stuck with.
  6. Coss, you said "I don't feel I have to argue my corner now, not with the BBC doing it for me...." The BBC was biased against your point of view for years. Their panel on climate change was loaded with environmentalists with dubious scientific qualifications. Despite freedom of information requests they have refused to say who those "scientists" were. This has come under scrutiny in the UK and now the BBC has a more balanced panel, hence the change of view point.
  7. Seems like the 72 percent of people who voted in the poll do less housework than their partners, including 31 percent who do none at all. Me too. I was pleased to see than men who relocated their wives to their home country also enjoy a better deal in this regard than they could expect with a western woman. To the guys who splits the housework 50/50 with their wives, I would suggest that men who are paying most of the bills or helping with the kids problems are doing enough. And to the guy who has a maid to do everything, lucky you!
  8. No offense intended WorldFun. People always seem to lose face when I'm around. I once took a bar girl to Siam Paragon where she spotted a new red Ferrari and asked me to buy it for her. When I laughed she said I made her lose face. Hopefully I can learn something about life in Thailand before I retire.
  9. I have a question for those who live with a Thai girl, either in Thailand or in your home country. If I did this correctly, there should be a poll attached. Please choose the option that best describes your life style.

  11. Excellent post by the way. I really felt for you. It must have been agony waiting for 3 days to get your test result. So glad it was negative.
  12. A man is in a queue at Tesco and sees this busty blonde staring at him, he can't believe she is staring at him, then she starts waving. "Excuse me do I know you?" he asks. "Yes I think you are the father of one of my kids" she says. The man thinks back and remembers his one act of infidelity and says "F#cking hell are you the bird I sh#gged on me stag do, whilst your mate whipped me and your other mate stuck a brush up my ar#e?" "No" she replies "I'm your son's English teacher!"
