Joe has a long history of lying. He ran for President in 1992 and had to quit the race because he was caught in a lie. He plagiarized something I think in college. Not sure but I recall. He talks whimsically over the years of stories from his youth that people said were completely made up. This was mostly in the 90s and prior.

It also tells you the state of the Democratic party that the establishment backed him from the start. That said, I do'n't think he is unable to govern. He will surround himself with capable people. I liken him to Reagan who by all accounts was unprepared for the high office. I've posted this before. The accounts are by his own people.

I think Biden will be okay. He will misspeak, he will remember things incorrectly or what others may call a lie. But the country will be run no worse than it was pre Trump. Biden being a bad candidate does not by definition make Trump a viable alternative. Biden being one of the worse of the Democratic challengers doesn't make Trump any better. A strong case can be made to vote for Romney, Rubio and many others over Biden. Even...cough...spit..Cruz. Trump goes far beyond ideology. Half of Americans have been dealing with bad ideology from the other party since the founding. Trump is dangerous to democracy. Trump  is a possible tragic global event type of person. If Covid 19 isi't that already. 10s of thousands of people were always going to die from Covid 19 no matter who was in the White House. The degree to how many people would be down to what policies someone would try, but the policy, no matter whom, was to be about to limit the lives loss and keep the economy viable. Trump's strategy for Covid 19 is solely based on his getting re-elected. The number of lives lost literally doesn't matter.

Any president who is in an election year and has a pandemic would think of re-election. That is normal. And all would straddle a line on what is prudent and if it will hurt his or hers election but Trump doesn't straddle the line, he will cross any line of decency, life and death, if it helps re-election. Hence the difference. There is no line with him. One of the senior members of Homeland Security said he told them not to aid in helping the fires in California. Purely out of spite. Lives are at risk. But Trump would not lose one bit of sleep if the death toll went up as a direct result of his inaction out of spite. That's where we are at. Presidents deny states things all the time for political reasons. Life and death things aren't part of that. Ever. When 1000s of lives are at stake we don't do politics. Republicans joined FDR in declaring war on the Japanese. Democrats joined Bush in an overwhelming military response to 911.

So tell me, Steve. How have we reached the point where these are the candidates that the two major  parties have put forward?  328 million people and this is the best they can do?   It's not something for us to be proud of.

Hmm...Biden's wife or Trump's wife who represents the First Lady tradition? hmmm

    LOL

Having some fun. Again, and I swear, I don't have a problem with her per se. I'm just pointing out the sheer hypocrisy and the restraint Dems have shown towards her. Dems are corrupt but they have a line. Gotta give them that.

At least Trump can tell his wife from his sister.  :)

Coffe time again, space to watch Cav´s findings on the world.

If this proud black man finds Biden´s words so disgusting that he cannot vote for him. Any alternative?

Tulsi Gabbard would have been a fine candidate. She's part Samoan, if they wanted a minority, and she has a decent military record in the Army medical corps. She also ripped Kamala to pieces in the debates. But oh no, let's go with creepy old Joe.  :(

Listen to Joe's own words. If he were Pinocchio he'd have a nose a yard long. Do the Democrats really want to win?

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints "prioritizes caring for the poor. It prioritizes strong families, a strong moral code, sacrifice,” said Eric Biggart, co-chair of LDS Democrats who lives in Salt Lake City. “To me, it’s hard to be a Republican and a member of the church at the same time.”

A friend was a VISTA volunteer in Utah, working with Mexican-American migratory workers. He said he quickly learned not to ask the LDS church for any help or donations of money or clothing. They had turned him down every time he approached them. He told me that yes, the Mormons will do everything they can for those who join their church. But if you won't convert, they won';t help you. Somebody please ask Boggart to explain how helping only members of your own church is being a good Christian.

I've said this before. The 'a few bad apples' is an asinine statement when you consider the person is granted legal rights to kill. You can't accept  'a few bad apples' who may harm, arrest or kill you arbitrarily and legally. Especially when we don't accept it in other fields. We don't  accept a few bad teachers who may molest our children. We don't accept a few bad surgeons in the medical field. We don't  accept a few bad pilots. We don't accept a few bad dentists.

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/americans-confidence-police-falls-historic-151828840.html

A good friend was retired from the LAPD. He said he was embarrassed by the bad cops, and he estimated they were about one in ten. Maybe one in ten doesn't sound like much, until you realise how many that is in a big city police force of over a thousand.

  6. Would I do that?  :)

Harris has a biracial father who calls himself a Jamaican and refuses to limit himself to Black. Harris's mother is from India. At most she is 1/4 Black and maybe less, but if Joe says she's Black, she's Black, and he promised to pick a Black woman to run with him. He insists he has the right to decide. Harris also called Biden a racist during the debates and said she believed the women who have accused Biden of sexual harassment. Presumably, she has changed her mind now.

God, what a piss poor election this is. Out of the entire USA, these are the best candidates the parties can come up with?  What other parties are there?  :(

  7. Oh, yeah ... remember Obama honoring a US Navy Corpse-man?   :chili:

How about holding all politicians to the same standards, or is that too much to ask?

Meanwhile, the choice has been made - Joe's running mate is a woman who publicly branded him a racist and has said she believes the women who brought harassment charges against him.  This should be interesting. Vote for the arsehole of your choice.

Also, the Democratic Party has chosen its campaign slogan for 2020.  EMBRACE THE SUCK!

p.s. Civilians probably won't understand that, but who gives a shit  I'm to old to be PC.

I'll never forget JFK telling us all about the conflict in Lay-oz, or LBJ and the war in Veet-naem. Good thing LBJ didn't want another Din Bin Foo. But they were Democrats, so it's okay for them to be prats.  :)

LOL..Cav, the whole thing is moot. The NFL ini 3 years has done a complete 180. They are 'bending the knee' to use my fave phrase from Game of Thrones. All the sports leagues are bending the knee. Kaepernick won.

The country, for the moment has swung completely the other way. Fox News is fact checking Trump now. The actions of the police nationwide against gen z and gen y kids in places like Salt Lake city, Portland, Seattle, has completely legitimized why the BLM movement started and the earlier controversial police shootings as well as private citizen shootings of people like Trayvon Martin, Mike Brown,  etc.

These things happen. The early to  mid 60s wave of progressive politics that ushered in Civil and Voting Rights Acts saw in the same decade arch conservative Nixon win in a landslide....twice.

Now its the left's turn. My guess is, if the Senate falls, we are going to see a wave of left of center actions, unprecedented. Biden will go along, he has no choice. If he wins, I actually don't think he'll run in 2024. It's going to be tougher and tougher for the  right to get back in power.

  10. Olivia de Havilland, Golden Age of Hollywood star, dies at 104

She made her breakthrough in Captain Blood, opposite Errol Flynn, and the pair developed an immediate chemistry.

De Havilland was then cast in the role of Melanie in David O Selznick's epic adaptation of the Margaret Mitchell novel, Gone with the Wind.

She lost the best supporting actress Oscar to Hattie McDaniel, who played Mammy in the film.

But she did win a Best Actress Oscar in 1946 for her role in To Each His Own, and then a second for The Heiress in 1949.

Can't help but appreciate that Fedex is the force behind the eventually change of name, as they are shocked - just shocked!- to have such a racist name and symbol affiliated with their organization and its principled views...  Dude, you're 20 years into a 27 year sponsorship arrangement with the team - NOW you're suddenly shocked and offended!?  Day late and a dollar short, Fedex - and when you're in express shipping, timing is everything!

OK, I hand this thread back over to the recently departed - and just to keep on track, I give you:  Benjamin Keough, gunshot suicide.

Brilliant. If the idiot ever had to use one of those, he'd be shot dead before he could get it out. As to the one in his trousers, it would be easy to grab it from behind and shoot him with it. He is no danger to anyone but himself.  :)

  13. Thailand has come up with an ingenious way to solve their prison overcrowding problem and help the labour market.

The highest authorities in the land are coming together to export convicts.

The country's jails are full to bursting with criminals and many have been deemed safe for release of one kind and another.

So the plan is to train them better in all the varied skills they will need so they can reenter society and work.

While most will end up in valuable positions in the Thai labour market some will inevitably end up abroad.

Thus prisons and vocational training courses could soon feature classes in English or other languages that would aid convicts in landing plum employment abroad.

Yesterday in Bangkok amid much razzamatazz, Justice minister Somsak Thepsuthin and his counterpart at the Labour Ministry MR Chatumongkol Sonakul signed an agreement of cooperation on the scheme.

    https://forum.thaivisa.com/topic/1173871-thailand-mulls-teaching-convicts-english-and-sending-them-to-work-abroad/?fbclid=IwAR1MgxRyp0QUm8uXmSFidH-kvmbkpGCw88a-Vk336WRHq6y1HCOp2O14GYg

Well, it's worth a try. Australia might welcome convicts. :)
