Guest
I saw the Quiet American remake. I had enjoyed the Graham Greene novel and I always like Michael Caine in moveis. Nevertheless, this movie was disappointing in some ways. The Vietnamese girl, indeed all the Vietnamese characters in the movie are just props, without any interiors. Only the Michael Caine character and the American CIA guy are shown to have feelings and motivations. The political aspect was good. Interestingly enough as far as I can tell the movie's condemnation of CIA and US policies in Viet Nam went completely uncommented on here in New York. I guess it is old news to anyone who has been paying attention. The movie that depcits Vietnamese and westerners as equally vivid and fully realized characters is still waiting to be made.
