Guest
ATMs are generally said to be the best value for obtaining foreign currency, whilst travelling.Credit cards have a cash surcharge,so debit visa cards are better for this. However in Indonesia, many ATMs only dispense 600,000 rupiah at a time. With the transaction fee,I wonder if it would be better to go to a bank, rather than extracting $60 at a time from ATMs.There are some ATMs that will dispense 1.2 million rupiah at a time, but they are not always easy to find. adikgede
Yes there are ATMs that dispence more than 600,000 which for some starnge reason seems to be the limit at the teller machine in Plaza Indonesia across from Hotel Indonesia where the maximum is also 600,000. In many places the limit is 1,250,000 but here are some that I usually go to where the limit is 2,500,000 HSBC at Wisma Metro II (WTC) Thamrin/G. Subroto BCA at Carrefourre Ratu Plaza G.Subroto side of Senayan Standard Chartered at Pasar Raya Grande Blok M There are others but those come to mind. I used to get spot rate at most banks except Citibank but all seem to be giving a percentage or two below spot rate now days.
