I've got a bit of downtime and tomorrow I plan to go and see "City of Ghosts" which is a new movie apparently set in Bangkok starring Matt Dillion and James Caan but I was also wanting to see a list of Movies that feature life in Bangkok and Thailand.

Saw a flick here in U.S about Bangkok called

Bangkok Dangerous about a deaf contract killer in Thai with subtitles on showtime....

An old movie "Good woman of Bangkok" was big in Oz, I forgot to mention I have some great trips, which I edited on my computer about BG from Chang Mai to Samui, Oh-Nang to Pang-Na, but it?s only for private viewing hoping to make a Documentary

Actually has some good local flavor, especially the opening sequence up the Chao Phrya. Goes back about 30 years, I believe.

 

Isn't the new Nick Nolte film supposed to be set in TL? Can't remember the title- is that the same as "City of Ghosts"

 

Also, I've never seen the film that "One Night in Bangkok" soundtrack came from, something about a chess match. Has anybody seen it? Does it actually show any city/countryside?

Just on a side note. I had a look at City of Ghosts official web site . Isn't it a bit strange to have Wat Arun in the promo material for a film about Cambodia?

 

Imagine a movie about New York with the Eiffel Tower sticking up along the city horizont...

 

But, ok, I haven't seen the film...perhaps the story line is in part set in Bangkok? I sure hope so.

About movies in Thai setting and especially Bangkok. I often think they fail to show the city in the ligth I see it. They either go to far and exaggerate it (e.g. "The Beach") or they "anonymize" it too much (e.g. "Ong Bak", "The Eye").

 

A movie that IMHO has some nice scenery and "is" Bangkok would actually be "Bangkok Hilton". It think it is pretty well made with a "feel" for the City.

 

Other than that, right off the bat, I don't know of movies set in Bangkok/Thailand other than an occasional James Bond & what not. Though, I will have a close look next time I see "Deer Hunter" since rumour is some scenes is shot in the Soi Cowboy neighbourhood...
