Soongmak, Works great! Wondered what that key was for. Beats the hell out of taking a picture of my display with a digital camera.

Thanks bibblies and short-time for the suggestions, I'll check them out.

Says SOONGMAK:

10. Kazaa-lite.

spyware-free version of this well-known p2p-software. It will find all music and software I might want, including keygenerators.

I was wondering what software members use for downloading music, videos, images, etc.

I used Gnutella before but had a few problems with that.

I switched to Grokster and it caused me a wealth of grief. All kinds of pop-ups being generated that seem to be embedded in IE. I keep getting them from somewhere called clickspring which comes from something that was dropped into my WINSERV file and I cannot get rid of - short of reinstalling OS, etc. I am still using '98.

I got similar garbage from KaZaa too.

Anyone else?

Switch to Kazaa lite. This version is spyware/adware free and faster as well. I don't have anyproblems with that, except that Kazaa is low on software and keygens. For this I use Emule, for which you need a flatrate unfortunatly, because usually takes much time to download files.

And I would advice to run spybot to get rid of your spyware/adware from Kazaa et al.

I never use p2p software to download videos - for me simply to much of a hassle for too little quality. It is not so great to find out after you downloaded a movie that it is dubbed in french :banghead::help::down::censored::cussing:

for images I rather hunt the binary newsgroups with my gravity newsreader - more choice, more quality, better organised.

For software and especially music Kazaa lite is great though.

Cheers,

I have been using XoLoX for p2p with very good results. All downloads have been perfect (other programs have not spliced between download sites well). If you opt out of the extras when you install it should be clean but would run a check with ad-aware or spybot (which I don't use as a little too dangerous in my fat hands). :o

For freeware try www.answersthatwork.com for some excellent programs which are adware and spyware free.

I went through a very nasty adware infection several months back and getting rid of this shit nearly drove me crazy!:banghead:

I was finally successful and now do regular cleanups using the following programs: Ad-aware, Xp-AntiSpy, Spybot Search, Xcleaner, PestPatrol, MRU-Blaster and BHO Demon - all are free or have free versions (a couple of these already mentioned).

Two other useful programs for managing your system startup are StartupManager and CodeStuff Starter. One of these (I forget which?) allowed me kill the built-in Windows XP popup Messenger Service that lots of sneaky adware programs take advantage of...
