A lot has to do with name recognition, most liley, once they have made up their mind about going to LOS with the kids. I remember not long ago when Hua Hin was the BKK thais well-kept "secret", away from sordid Pattaya overtaken by farangs. Now, I read there are many farangs there (HUA HIN, A & C section), and even a few girlie bars or freelancer joints. Phuket was same in mid-eighties, no P4P scene. I think the whole international situation has put a damp on any kind of mushrooming tourism in LOS, the reason why they are trying to get the russians back, europeans and americans are getting cold feet at traveling in areas where terrorism and Sars have made a dent ( I wrote that my local travel agency in France did not have one poster of Thailand on its window). At this point, for uncultural tourists, the only selling point of Thailand is his cheapness, so they will try to get the low-income tourists, I guess, eastern block type.

Good informative post, kamui. I hazard a guess that many other nationalities are living here for the same reasons.

 

It?s stress free living here for me too. I sleep like a baby every night without aircon on a high floor thanks to the refreshing sea breeze, about 10 Carlsbergs and a spot of horizontal folk dancing with the girl who has just left :hubba:. I never tire of the view from my balcony across the beach and the Gulf of Thailand. I like to walk on the beach, but I would never swim there?. it?s too polluted. I swim in my condo pool, which is superbly maintained.

 

I am here mainly for p4p? I can get a root, as easily as a wank 24 hours a day. If that disappears (the oldest profession in the world?. I doubt it!), I and my money do too. There must be thousands of others like me. Good riddance many holier than thou?s chorus! Not forgetting that sex is a basic human instinct ? every single one of the 6 billion walking the planet (unless your middle name is Pyrex!) from the Pope to your good self, Mr. Reader, is a result of papa getting a hard on and having an uncontrollable urge to insert it into mama. Our creator must have had a particularly mischievous sense of humour for adding that particular chip to our motherboards, in the light of all the problems it's caused politicians just to name a million! It?s simply Judaeo-Christian religion that has fucked up everyone?s mind on the issue.

 

But what?s left after p4p goes would not make Pattaya a world class resort IMHO?. unless you play golf! Australia (just 6 hours away) is far more beautiful , and that?s not just the beaches. The living is pretty cheap downunder too. But why would I want to live there permanently and date women old enough to be my wife?

 

I await developments from The Social Order committee, which, by hassling gogo bars, as I pointed out in another post is ironically driving more Thai women into prostitution at cheaper prices. TIT.

Salaries in Russia are as low or lower than in Thai. Low income there means exactly that - dirt low.

 

However, there is a layer of "noveau riches" - people who earn(ed) their money doing things that were or are bordering with criminal activities. There could be enough of them (say, 10-30K of them) who may be attracted to Pattaya in addition to those already introduced.

 

(I think I can swear I recognized a few of the "models" from "Private" porn production, sunbathing at Jomtien around last XMas).

Distance (kids on planes) cost..good value to dollar/THB.

 

Thailand has beaches/shopping etc...so they choose LOS.
