Says Redbaron:

David Gilmour at 82, better than 'em all if you ask me. Just my opinion of course, everyone has different tastes, that's why "Top 100" lists generally create much debate, and are pretty pointles IMO.

Hi

True..you could make 100 top 100 and still create debate.

Angus at 96?

Says Zaad:

The list seems OK-ish.

Although 90% is unknown to me. ::

Not surprising

"#2 Died in 1971.Duanne Allman

#5 died same year you were born . ::

1938 he died at age 27'' the father of blues"" Clapton said of him""is the greatest blues guitar player/writer and singer that ever lived""

i saw this list recently, forget where but i always wonder how much of a cross section of music lovers they ask.

there have been many polls in the past and Hendrix is normally #1 with Clapton and Page contesting top 5 places.

don't know much about Allman, but above Page?,not for me.

Page was so innovative and a master of his art.

i may be a bit bias as i am watching 'The Song Remains The Same' as i write this post and the guitar work on 'No Quarter' and 'Dazed And Confused' is awesome,so sublime.

Robert Johson i love,what a player.

listen to his music and it sounds like 2 guitarists playing.

and of course Led Zep plagarised his music sssssooooo much.

Berry and Ramone are good but the music is so same same.

they found a formula and stuck with it,but the same tunes with different lyrics is a bit boring.

i have seen Neil Young and Crazy Horse so many times in concert and while neither Young and Cropper the will claim to be a great guitarist, together they form a formidable combination.

never rated Richards as a truly great guitar player, nothing the Stones really did taxed his ability.

Peter Green was/is another genius.

have seen him a few times live in the last 2-3 years and now he his is back,it is a joy.

to watch his hands caress his guitar is fantastic to watch and now he seems to have overcome his probems after 25-30 years is a credit to him.

should Angus Young be behind Adam Jones of Tool, who the fuck are Tool.

i see a few names mentioned that i have not a clue who they are.

but 2 things stick in my mind

Mick Ronson at such a low placing?.

played great guitar,wrote/produced songs for himself and others.

one of my fav artists and a credit to the industry and a sad loss when he died at such an early age.

VERY VERY underated.

but a quandry here.

i am thinking of a song which i think has one of the greatest rifts ever written and played.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida,the whole 17 minute version.

simple finger work, but easily remembered and i often play it in the car.

check out the climax to 'Silence Of The Lambs'

but i see the writer of the rift has died recently and i cannot remember his name.

i looked on the CD and it says Doug Ingle provided the words, but not the music.

the person i'm thinking off may not have the merit to be included in the top 100 but he still rates in my eyes for being involved in one of the best songs ever recorded.

off topic.

but i think a few members on the board might be of an age where looking at Brittany Spears flashing her knickers is not for them?.

still does it for me...... :hubba:

but i prefered times when groups had to make good music to sell records.

back to my DVD of Led Zep and Pages guitar during 'STH' is awesome.

Sayjann,

I agree with most of your post...........

BTW, I still hold the original LP fron Iron Butterfly, the grey one with a black ( iron ) butterfly.......

Words & Music by Doug Ingle, if you want to know......

Jimi on top of every list has to be that way, others are not worth being on the list.

Incidently, the Stones are playing here tonite, just about 3 km from where I live, 70K people expected, I just go there by bike :)

Cheers !

Hi

You make some good points.

STH...best rock song of all time ..if not way up any list of top 100 imo.

Re stones...my favorite band :nono:

seen them live many times (well i think they were alive) ::

i enjoy very good blues...Stones started out with blues so i guess i have stuck with them.

Forgot about Page..

Hendrix...best Hey Joe/Foxy Lady :dunno:

Wow - thanks for posting this. I occasionally need to be reminded why I stay away from "popular" publications on subjects such as music, literature, travel, et al. My comment: Joan Jett makes the cut but Gary Moore, neither Schenker brother, Uli Roth, Rik Emmit and Joe Satriani are not listed. And Eddie Van Halen at #70. WTF?!? That's my thirty second analysis, if I gave it any more thought I am sure there would only be 15 or so left on the list of 100. What a world. Joan Jett?? I am a better than Joan Jett on the axe. ::
