Since our cultural guru, P127, is feeling left out today this is the annual Loy Krathong thread. :grinyes:

The story of the original one:

Origins of Loy Krathong

The Loy Krathong song lyrics

In Thai, using Roman characters:

Wan Pen Duan Sip Song

Nam Koh Nong Tem Taling

Rao Tanglai Shai Ying

Sanuk Ganjing Wan Loy Krathong

Loy Loy Krathong

Loy Loy Kratong,

Loy Krathong Gan Laew

Koh Shern Nong Kaew

Ook Ma Ram Wong

Ram Wong Wan Loy Krathong

Ram Wong Wan Loy Krathong

Boon Ja Song Hai Rao Suk Jai

Boon Ja Song Hai Rao Suk Jai

Translated into English:

The full moon of the twelfth month,

As water fills the banks,

We, all men and women,

Have really good fun on Loy Krathong day,

Float, float the krathongs,

Float, float the krathongs,

And after we have floated our krathongs,

I invite you my darling,

To come out and dance,

Ramwong [traditional dance] on Loy Krathong Day,

Ramwong on Loy Krathong Day,

Good merit brings us happiness,

Good merit brings us happiness,

And the Music, to set the lyrics to:

Loy Krathong Song Music

This is one of my favourite festivals, especially on the banks of the Ping River in ChiangMai.

Says ib13:

not a problem - so will you be attending LK somewhere?

Unfortunately not this year. :(

I'd make a float here, but it's tough cutting through the ice to float it. :banghead:

Hi LaoHuLi,

A friend of mine has made another variation of this song.

I only remember the chorus, it goes like this: Soi Soi Cowboy, Soi Soi Cowboooy....

Well, he never did make that many posts on Arts and Culture. Wonder why. :)

Thanks for posting the lyrics.

Cheers
