High season? Seems pertty quiet to me...

Spot on - although I found it to be opposite (mainland Chinese less than Thais or Flips) and the prices have gone up by ~HK$50 (as of November).

And menus or not, all the pimps speak English, even if you really need to speak Putonghua to communicate with the grils.

Good fun actually as:

a) the Chinese grils are nice and accomdating

B) you need to have balls to walk into a brothel in a busy shopping district

c) have faith that you are in the right place even tho' you do not read Chinese

LOL!!!!

Cheers,

SD

..yes, johnny, but there will always be a new generation of drunk horny farangs to replace them... well, I'm doing my best anyway ::

I'm doing my best too.

I was out there in November 2000. I have dug out a photo from that trip of the entrance to one of the walk-ups, but unfortunately the menu is in Cantonese. The prices were (I think) Thai HK$260, Filipina HK$300, Mainland and HK Chinese HK$330, European HK$700.

Surprised to hear that prices have gone up, considering that HK has otherwise been suffering from price deflation for the past few years.

Bit of a crackdown going on there as well. When I was last there in November, there were police raids after a Triad shooting outside of one place. Been crackdowns on illegal immigrants in the trade as well I understand.

Deffo Mainland $330, Flip/Thai $360, others not advertised. $20 or $30 surcharge for no comdom use (did not choose that one but it is on the menu -- scary). Do not know if that is on the English menu as this was from the Chinese menu posted outside.

The Mainland grils are cute, nice and good at their jobs, but speak zero English (Mandarin only). Why go to HK and pull a Thai or Flip for pay? Can find too many looking for farang BF at any disco in Wanchai!

Cheers,

SD

Right on. I had one of my best and greatest BJ's given by a Mainland Lady. I met her as we passed on the stairs. She was leaving and I was walking in, up the stairs. We made eye contact, and she turned around and walked right back up the steps with me. Never said a word to her. And she never said a word to me, but the smile she gave me, well .... I'll never forget it.

I don't think Pattaya as we know it will be around much longer. Bangkok is already not as we knew it even 2 years ago.

I for one don't find thailand particularly fun any more, it's the same old boring crap only now even less of the little bit of spice that kept it interesting. The thinness of the high heason this year just sorta confirms this for me.

Even a happily married guy wants to be able to sit for a beer in peace in a fun atmosphere once in a while. Thailand doesn't seem to want this, hence this year's high season of a different character.

Great observations. When the new airport equi-distant from Bangkok and Pattaya is finished, more people will be going to Pattaya than before, and Pattaya will solidify itself as the main hub of the eastern industrial seaboard, making the nightlife in South Pattaya insignificant IMHO. And I haven't even touched on the impact of a new casino. If you think there are a lot of Asian tourists in Pattaya now...

I feel the tug of an undercurrent here, perhaps more powerful than ever noticed before.

Drinking after 1am has nothing to do with prostitution or drugs. I get pissed off if I am told I have to stop anything by a government but just for a beer is a joke.

i am agree with that.i just wonder why so many worry about the changes.ok,for they who absolutly have to go back to the same place every time they have holiday.sure it is sad when the place that once was a paradise becomes ordinary, but there are other counties to go and have fun.i have travelled to LOS for many years.some times i have stayed there for long periods of time, and i have had a lot of good times, and a lot of fun.but as it is descussed,at this board,it is changing.my last trip,a month ago,i went to Cambodia.it is great there, and in the south, there is even beaches.the beer is cheap.you can drink beer for 50 cent some places,in general it cost 1us dollar.the khmer girls are more beutiful than the thais, and the vietnamese BG are more fun than the thais.people is not approach westerner just to gain financilly, like in thailand.thailand is much more developed, and the food is better, but thats it.vietnam or phlippines could bee good options as well.so i think it is not worth to worry.thailand change and i change destinasion.easy like that!

Hi Kurtz,

people is not approach westerner just to gain financilly, like in Thailand.

Are you sure about this? I must admit that I have never been to Vietnam, but this sounds highly unlikely to me.

..the vietnamese BG are more fun than the thais.

Again, no experience myself but please do tell me why you feel they're more fun than the Thai BG's. I'm not questioning the above, if you think they're more fun then they're more fun (for you), but what I'd like to know is why exactly. Could you provide some details?

Showtime, if you look closely at the TAT statistics, you will see that male tourists substantially outnumber female tourists. I did a longer post about this a few weeks back. The differences are substantial.

Pattaya:

I wish i could find the numbers that showed that for the first time domestic tourism circulated more bahts than international. not sure about that,
Your doubts are well founded. You will not "find the numbers that showed that for the first time domestic tourism circulated more bahts than international" for the simple reason that it is not true.

Someone else above suggested that Thaksin is shrewdly try to change Thailand so that it carters to upscale Chinese tourists. Unlikely. If the idea is to replace ?down market? farang tourists with ?upscale? Chinese tourists, someone is seriously misreading the market. And if this a reference to some future, emerging market, Thailand is going to have a very long wait. The current crop of BGs will be grandmothers before that ever happens. There probably will be an increase in tourism from China, but it will be quite some time, if ever, before China becomes a source of predominately upscale tourism. I personally think it will never happen.

Japanese and American tourists tend to spend the most. And Japanese and American male tourist arrivals substantially out number female tourist arrivals - take a look at the TAT statistics. And then head over to Emporium, hang a left, veering toward Soi Thonglor, and look at all of the new Karoke bars and clubs that cater almost exclusively to Japanese males. And then take a look at the new, semi-upscale venues in the lower part of Sukhumvit that carter to less exclusive Farangs. Even in NEP, most the bars are much cleaner and have more expensive fixtures than eight years ago when I arrived.

Thailand is attracting more upscale tourists...more upscale p4p tourists.
