:Instructions: Anyone ?

Ok if this is redundant I'd apreciate any existing resource.

I had a few weeks at Somchart.

They gave us an instructional sheet that explained a few basic commands the instructor would be using.

And you know how much we beginers value our time in LOS for advancing our mumbling ability.

And some would argue that it would be more sensible to learn the phrases required, but honestly it's a catch-22.

What I would like to have is an A4 sized piece of paper with instructions that willing unsuspecting Thais could use to convey the follwing mistakes.

//I'm sorry I really don't have time for this now.

//Your completley incomprehinsible and I don't know what your trying to say.

>For values with * the consonants and vowels will

be listed bellow.

//Your consonant sound is not correct it should be*

//Your vowel sound is not correct it should*

//your tone is not correct it should be*

(for the tone values, is there a set way of communicating this for Thai's without getting into conditional values of consonants and tone indicators?)

Any others you might feel would be useful?

Thanks to anyone who can take the time for any of these sentences.

Thank you.

Hi,

Perhaps something like:

I'm sorry I really don't have time for this now.

Samak's suggestion or 'Khothod, tawnee phom mai saduak'

Your completley incomprehinsible

'Khun phood mai roo ruang loei'

I don't know what your trying to say.

'Phom mai roo wa khun phood arai'

Your consonant sound is not correct it should be

'Siang phayachana khong khun mai tookthong. Maan khuan pen yangnee'

Your vowel sound is not correct it should be

'Siang sara khong khun mai tookthong. Maan khuan pen yangnee'

Your tone is not correct it should be

'Siang soong tam khong khun mai tookthong. Maan khuan pen yangnee'

The last one is a bit tricky. I think you could either use 'siang soong tam' (high-low sound/tone) or 'karn awk siang' (pronunciation).

Hope it helps.

Hi Zaad,

I recall learning the expression "Siang Wannayuk" for tones.

Although I have to admit that I have met thais who are not familiar with that expression. But that is probably just because it is a grammatical expression and some people just don`t dig grammar. :)

Cheers

Zaad thanks very very much!

I appreciate that.

I've been doing some English teaching this last year. It actually puts you in a unique learning environment. I think it's actually good for the relationship between the students and the teacher for them to see you also trying to learn their language. But students don't necessarily know to emphasize the part of the speech which is incorrect.

They will simply chorale the response until they get tired and give up, before you have understood the nature of your error.

A few lines printed on a piece of paper to take with me during lunch breaks may break down some difficulties. And there will still be some options on the sheet that they can use to excuse themselves if they get bored.

Thanks again.

It sure is. And it's also a good alternative to fall back to when they're unable to understand your English explanation.

Thanks again.

I couldn't have done it without my Thai girl :)
