"i doubt very much that in the west any party has such a wide range of political and economical fractions. "

You are obliviously not familiar with American political parties. There are many, many factions in both the Republican and Democratic parties. In a country of 250 million with only 2 major parties, it would absurd to expect each party to be anything other then uneasy, politically expedient alliances.

As a side note to your post, I am not surprised there were Socialist in the Nazi party, since the official name was Nationalist Socialist Party.

Back to the death of nightlife in Thailand...

Well perhaps I see it less as a death nell than as a creative challenge. Very creative mind you.

There may be some hard core all nigh party guys that this really hurts, but they will simply move their action to Patpong or Pattaya. Many will spend less time in Nana or C'Boy.

But the scene will continue. Many have lamented that when they get to the gogos at 11pm all the good girls a bfed already. so there is no change that way. Just an earlier night than most have been led to expect before.

Even if many places are forced to close by midnight there will not be a huge drop in the tourist coming here for the action. Hell 3 hours even in Bangkok at a gogo is better than 3 weeks at one in Denver, or Manchester or where ever you want to name. Sure some will move on to more 'frontier' venues in Cambo or elsewhere, but the scene won't dry up overnight. The good bar owners are too smart to let it happen.

I know of at least 3 major places in Nana that have had alternate game plans ready for almost a year. Many Gogos in Nana never have had to make a profit and still won't care. Have a serious look at the customer/staff ratios in most of the operations and you will soon realize that a large number of customers is not a prerequisite to survival.

Not mind you the price of an operation outside the E-Zones just dropped (plumetted) dramatically, but it will be interesting to see what the next place in NanaPlaza sells for. That will be the telling tale.

The game won't end, just be played a different way. :neener:

wonder what it will be like with a midnight closing.

We are not the only ones wondering about this. I was in NEP last night where I know several girls quite well, and they were all concerned about the future of NEP.

BGs and just about everyone else employed in the Farang nitery places make a very good living by Thai standards, particularly for their education levels, and I doubt that many will want to live up country working on a farm in the hot sun for a 100 Baht a day. Bangkok is polluted and dirty, but it is an exciting place with plenty of things for a young BG to do.

One of the mama-sans's said there is supposed to be a meeting at the Lumphini police station tonight a 8 pm to discuss the midnight closing. She did not seem optomistic. Several of the girls I spoke with and the mama-san who mentioned this evening's meeting asked me about Patpong. It seems they are already considering their exit strategies.

If the rules are enforced as indicated, I simply do not see how NEP can survive. We have focused on the early closing times, but the new rules also provide that bars cannot open until 9 pm. How can the NEP bars possibly survive if they are only allowed to stay open 3 hours a night?

And it is not just NEP, but every other bar in Bangkok outside the designated entertainment zones. The emerging club scene in Soi Thonglor, which is quite interesting and certainly not aimed at sex tourists of any description, will not survive.

Thanks for good analysis. I was actually being sarcastic with that comment. Personally early closing it will affect me very little as rarely these days do we stay out much past 1:00 any way (we tend to go to night clubs in Patpong/Silom area, not go-go's). I agree that the nightlife will continue. I doubt the one Nana go-go owner I know pretty well is in it for the money, it's just a hobby for him, not the girls (his wife would castrate him in a NY second :grinyes:), but the social aspect that keeps him in the business at this point. He made his money years ago.

that probably won't apply there Doug as the Beergarden is a Restaurant.... didn't you ever see the large Gernman Cuisine menu. :dunno:

But it will close a midnight, so get there early. :: Actually the day shift is usually better picking anyway. Then you L/Ts have more hours in them :neener:

"the scene will continue" - in NEP? If these new regulations are enforced as advertised, I am not so sure. Pause for a moment and consider what it will be like in Bangkok if the rules are enforced.

In NEP, bars will only be allowed to open for 3 hours - from 9 pm until 12 midnite. 3 hours? That is not much of an evening out. I am certainly not a party animal, but on a Friday or Saturday night I will always stay out more than 3 hours.

This is true of most people, unless your aim is nothing more than to pick up a girl and head back to the hotel as soon as possible. (But wait - aren't the policies of the New Social Order supposed to be targetting precisely such behavior?!?) And the people who come out to visit me always stay out much longer than 3 short hours.

These rules will apply to every bar outside the desiginated entertainment zones, which means you cannot start the evening in Gullivers or head down Soi 4 or across Sukhumvit to Q Bar when the bars close at midnite in NEP because no bar in the Sukhumvit area will be allowed to open before 9 pm or after midnite. A short three hour window for all the bars and pubs to make enough to survive.

Q Bar and the Nana Disco will really suffer, and will probably be the first to close. Those places only start to get a decent crowd after 11 pm. Do you really think people will show up at 9 pm in discos and bars like Q Bar when there are alternatives over on Silom.

In Patpong, bars will be allowed to open earlier and stay open until 2 am. The bars and the BGs will not be limited to 3 short hours to earn a living.

Do you think Farang tourists will continue to go to NEP when Patpong is open earlier and later? What will the BGs do when their incomes start to seriously decline because of the shorter operating hours. I talked to several BGs and a mama-san last night who are already thinking about making a move to Patpong. I am sure they are not the only ones.

It will become a self-reinforcing circle, with customers following girls, and girls following customers. Patpong will become a more festive place, with larger crowds of customers, more bars and more girls while NEP will have less of all of these.

It is hard to imagine how NEP can survive on the whims a few owners who, perhaps, run bars as a hobby and don't care about money. The girls do care about money, and they aren't going to stick around for nostalgic reasons. And I doubt very many customers will either.

It remains to be seem what will actually happen. And it remains to be seen if the rules are actually enforced as advertised. But if they are enforced as advertised consistently and for a long period, I am not optomistic about NEP or any place in the lower Sois of Sukhumvit. And not just the bars, but the stores, hotels and every other place that carters to the tourists in that part of town.

I would not want to own a bar in NEP or anywhere else outside an entertainment zone right now.

Gullivers is a resturant I thought??

What about Thermae. I saw one members opinion Nana Disco would be forced to close. Is this correct? Thermae and Nana Disco only allowed to open 9PM-Midnight? Impossible to believe. I for one have given up on Nana Plaza since they started to cover, then Cowboy became covered. What is the world coming to?

thanks
