world's shortest visa run

Yes the "spinning" through the airport in Thailand is illegal, but then (I believe) so is prostitution and nudity in go-gos...

Has anyone legitimately had to leave an airport after checking in because of an emergency, either in Bkk or elsewhere?

Rictic,

Based on simple observation.

1.You have to check in and get a board pass

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Correct

2.You go and get your tax stamp

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Correct

3.Go through immigration..oh yes...with a

bodgie board pass...notice how this came

into the story later..of course the customs

blokes don't have any idea what a fake is

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Not necessarily a bodgie one. But they are available and it's immigration not customs.

The boarding pass is a genuine one with bodgie flight details.

Did you lnow there is an availability of FALSE tickets that you can travel on?

Counterfeit Tickets (FBI)

*****Yes, sorry I did not make the distinction between customs and immigration.

On the way out you see only immigration

usually.Yes,you can buy a stolen ticket, and

there are spoiled boarding passes available

if you waant to jump the counters and go

thru the rubbish.Using a stolen ticket is

not that easy unless you use it almost the

day you lift/buy it, the airlines list the

stolen tickets, I actually saw two guys get

caught at Don Muang with two stolen tickets

and two altered passports.Question, where

do you get the printer to make the boarding

pass, you will notice the spacing on the

print is not at all usual for that reason.

************************************

4.You then go duty free shopping

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

If you wish too. The shops are there. illegal but then the process you ar planning on is as well.

5.You then have to find a way from the dept

level to the arrivals level, but you ring

on the phone and cancel your flight,but

they can see that you have checked in?, but

they give you a refund anyhow..sure???

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Not that difficult to find your way there are a number of staircases. There are telephones available in transit and if you phone within BKK you can call for free.

You have not flown so you are entitled to a refund. ASK your travel agent about refunds

specifically ask if you can cancel and get a refund after checking in.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

*******************

There are no entry points FROM departure TO

arrivals that are not policed/locked.There

are of course entry points from arrivals to

departure for transit passengers. If you

check almost any post to this board it is

about cheaper air tickets, and that means

usually refund restrictions.

So unless you have made it in with the bad

boarding pass you don't need to cancel, if

you did actually check in and get a real

pass, you can't just ring up and cancel and

expect a full refund later. If you have in

fact checked in you have just turned the

flashing lights on in the airline. Enjoy!

***************************

6.You are still looking for the way to the

arrivals area.There is none...oh yes..you

find the same guy who sold you the board

pass and he shows you the way.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

As stated there are stair cases IN THE PUBLIC AREA. If your not blind or stupid you should be able to find them.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

*******************

I am neither blind nor I think stupid, I

have been through Don Muang about 60-70 times

and my comment above about the entry points

is correct, maybe you and your friend can

nominate where the ones I misssed are.

****************************

7.The boarding count does not add up,the

airline is looking for you.You are the only

passenger that has not checked in.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Why are they looking for you? Have you forgotten that you phoned up and cancelled after checking in.

***********************

Part right, if you used the false boarding

pass, but if you did actually check in they

are looking for you, airlines are very very

nervous about passengers that check in and

don't make it to the gate, you might be a

bomber you see.

***********************

8.The passenger manifest that most airlines

send in advance to arrivals(assume you

found the secret stairway) does not have

your name on it, and you are not in the

immigration computer.

Too many airy fairy ideas in this one.

Try this and you will end up in the slammer.

Unauthorised entry to a secure area, that's

almost a terrorist act in some countries.

Defrauding the revenue of duty on your shopping and causing delay and cost to an

airline, but if he is a gold member flyer

they will just grin and bear it..sure!

It is pure fantasy, this guy has never tried

it, and I doubt he has ever really looked at

an airport while he was walking through it.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

No body checks your name against the manifest, unless you have severely brought attention to yourself.

as stated there are no hidden stairways they are in your view and you are allowed to use them.

*******************

Next time you are on a plane you might ask

the chief purser if he/she will show you

the passenger manifest, also it is sent after

check in at the flight departure point to

the next stop where people will get off.

You may be correct in saying that at this

stage the Thai immigration computer would

not be updated at the time you waltz through

the arrivals area, but that is a risk. The

idea is that immigration runs checks on you

while you are in the air, if you are bad

enough they will come to your seat and take

you off the plane and make sure you keep

going.How do you think they caught Nick

Leeson in transit in Frankfurt????

*******************************

I do get the feeling that some of the posters here are the very people that have to touch something when there is a Wet Paint sign on it and probably think that Neil Armstrong never went to the moon, he was really in a studio in Hollywood.

The guy gave information of something to educate people and gets shit over it. Just because you don't know something doesn't mean it isn't true or possible. I'm not advising people to do this, it is illegal, but it is possible and is being done by some people.

************************

Good point. Most of the posters/readers of

this board are not all that frequent a

traveller and frankly would not have the

bottle to try and pull this off, because the

shit if you get caught is not nice.

*******************

P.S. I have been a travel agent for the last 20 years, what you are suggesting is not in

the travel agents power to help you with, at

least not the way it was outlined.

You will never get a refund if you have in

this fashion delayed a plane, you will get

sued. Also, you will find that if you try

the ruse of feigning illness after checkin

and you are in the sterile area, you will be

taken out BACK through departure, and not

simply told to find your own way out.

Bingo, they cancel your exit stamp, and no

visa run has been made.

Sorry, its frogshit

It is unbelievable how this thread just keeps going and going on (realizing I am contributing to that). The OP has now withdrawn from the board in a huff; maybe this is the end.

The consensus:

No verifiable case of actually doing this is exists.

Theoretically it seems possible.

Seems to me the key part is getting from Departure to Arrivals. Next time I go through BKK maybe I will investigate this. Never had a reason to before. Any one else is encouraged to look into this.

No doubt this would be the easiest visa (actually entry stamp) run you could do, but risk and potential hassle seems to make is low on list.

Like thaihome I was hoping to keep out of this thread. It has all the signs of a group of mates at a bar too close to closing time after a solid night on the beer.

I travel constantly. Yes I have had to leave an airport (not BKK) after checking in and having gone through immigration. It happens at airports all the time. As long as someone is informed of your non departure the airline will not be looking for you at the gate.- my experience that the main reason people are late for take off is that they are too damm busy at the shopping malls that now pose as airports. People holding up flights should be fined and or blacklisted. I have wasted days of my life waiting for these inconsiderate people --( this of course will never happen)

Anyway back to the thread. At Bangkok I would suggest that it is fairly easy to move between departure and arrivals - there are many points of access. Just think how many people use BKK as a hub for connecting flights

In many airports (eg Singapore )it is even easier than in BKK. arrivals/departures are all on the same level

"Spinning" if that is what it is called is doable, but as to OP stated a second passport is required that will rule out the majority of people.

Would I do it No.

Can it be done? Probably yes.

Would I recommend someone to do it? No

Do I know anyone having done it in BKK No

No baggage is checked in

No one goes through the boarding gate

Hence no mad bomber.

I just remembered!!! a few months ago I had to go to Singapore, I entered Singapore a few minutes later a friend I had gone to meet phoned to say he was in transit and had his 4 year old son and a few large bags with him and needed help coming through immigration.

I did an early check in with SIA, went through Sing immigration using my boarding pass for a flight the following day, met my friend, re-entered singapore NOT A PROBLEM. I enetred twice in 30 minutes. so if it is impossible how did I do that?

Please don't tell me BKK is different, It isn't.

Yes, this topic should be shut down. The first poster only had a suggestion,but had never done it, Rictic has done it, but in Singapore and relied on two people to not read the date on his boarding pass, none of it in Bangkok and we don't have any idea where the entry FROM departures to arrivals is. There are plenty the other way, so if somebody is prepared to actually do it, then post it I would be very happy to admit I was a doubting Thomas.Of course the question arises is it worth the risk of being caught and will it compromise your stay in Thailand?

Actually I didn't rely on them to not read the date but thats by the by. I was ready to explain if necessary what I was doing and I doubt there would have been a problem but it does show the feasability. Believe me when I say that SIN security is stricter than BKK and yet it was possible there.

I would agree it is probably best that this thread goes to bed.

Well, there are an equal amount of truths and untruths posted in this thread. I won’t go into details, as security is obviously paramount here. All I would advise is that anyone considering this method of visa runs should give it some serious second thoughts.

If you will be using your own passports then you will get found out after you have phoned to cancel your ticket. There is a set procedure for dealing with late cancellations, one of them being that the airline will immediately contact the immigration office to inform them that you will not be leaving the country after all and that you will need to be re-admitted into the country. If you have already hotfooted it to arrivals with your other passport then forms will be filled in and entries made into computers making it only possible to pull this scam off once. Also your name will be blacklisted, and don’t for one-minute think that this information is kept only for the Thai officials, you would be surprised at the amount of agencies and bureaus who have staff here. By the way, to get it straight it is fairly simple to get from Departures to Arrivals.

After working in the airport for a number of years now, I can only stress how efficient their internal security systems and procedures are, I recommend not trying to test them. Hope that answers some questions.

Regards

Roger
