[sOCCER] Chang Beer aims to be a major sponsor on Everton?s uniform and will not join a consortium to buy a 30 per cent stake in Liverpool.

Thanit Thamsukati, an advisor to Thai Beer (1999), revealed during a press conference at the Radisson Hotel yesterday for a World Cup 2006 qualifying match that the company is proposing to become a main sponsor on Everton?s uniform instead of Liverpool?s.

Negotiations between Chang Beer and Everton are still continuing, but he expected that a result would be known within the next month and well before the new Premier League season kicks off.

?It?s not a rumour that our company has made a proposal to Everton. We have set our sights on being the main sponsor on their uniform,? he said.

?This issue is still undergoing negotiation, however, we will try to reach an agreement in July before the opening of the Premier League season.?

Asked how much the company will spend on its bid to become a sponsor, Thanit refused to say, but he revealed that Beer Chang would definitely not invest in a 30 per-cent stake in Liverpool.

Thanit denied the company was interested in buying a share of Liverpool, saying the move would not be a part of its core business.

?We are a beer-seller and we will continue to sell our products. Buying the Liverpool stake is not in our sights,? he said.

Thai football team manger Tawatchai Sajjakul said Everton representatives are now in Thailand and they are ready to negotiate.

Chang Beer exports its product to the UK market but its share there is less than 1 per cent.

Meanwhile president of Football Association of Thailand Vijit Getjaew said the World Cup 2006 qualifying match against North Korea would be one of the most important matches for the Thai side.

?This match is very important as we must win it. We can?t lose or draw. I hope that all local fans will come to support our national team at Rajamangala Stadium. Our players need your encouragement,? he said.

Thailand is taking on North Korea in the World Cup 2006 qualifying match at Rajamangala Stadium on Wednesday. Channel 7 will televise the match live from 7pm. The admission fee for the match is Bt300, Bt200 and Bt100.
