King Kung
You can easily rent a car in the US with a Thai license. Go to any of the big car rental companies online and try it. The only hitch is that they will automatically charge you for insurance, optional if you have a valid US license (presumably you already have insurance that will transfer to a rental car). And now Thai licenses are printed in English.

TroyinEwa/Perv
Yes, my mistake. Well done, shrimp. Other than Flash, the most recent poster in that thread hasn't even signed in for almost 3 years so your info should be well received. Keep up the good work!! cavanami
I will soon find out if my Thai license will do the trick in the USA as my USA license is about to expire. I was going to get a Texas license but you have to have proof of residence there; electric bill, rent receipt, etc... which I do not have
khunsanuk
Hi, Ura Dick, knock it off. So what this is an old thread, the additional information is still valid. Sanuk!
Flashermac
Interesting to see things have changed. I tried to get a US licence at home using my Thai driving licence in 1988. They refused to accept it, and I had to take the written and driving test - just as I had done when I was 16. p.s. The guy who conducted the driving test was another VN vet. He agreed with me that it was stupid.
