Ok I’m just wondering how can I get the 10-day extension of stay? Where do I have to apply for it, how much would it coast me to do it? Thanks in advance.

here is what you have to do :-

1. Take a taxi to the Immigration Bureau, Soi Suan Plu, Sathorn Rd, Bangkok. Make sure you have a pen as they are like gold dust wink.gif" border="0

2. When you get there, cross the road and get your photograph taken (you need a passport size photograph for your application). There are about half a dozen shops specialising in this, you can't miss them! I can't remember how much it costs but it's not alot (maybe B100).

3. While you are waiting for your photographs to develop, get a photocopy made of your passport. You need copies of the personal details page (the one with the photo on) and the page with your visa on. This will probably cost you B6.

4. Now you are ready to do business. Enter the Bureau, and turn left. There are now several counters in front of you. Go to the one which suits your nationality. Get the visa extention form. Fill it out (for the reason for stay question, just write "Tourism") and stick your photo on the back. Glue is provided!

5. Re-approach the counter with your passport, completed form and B500. Give this to the immigration guy and sit down for 5 mins.

6. Voila, you should now be issued with your visa extention. They should give you 14 days (not 10 as you have stated). laugh.gif" border="0

Cheers

PS Do things in this order, I can assure you that it will be the least frustrating tongue.gif" border="0

Immigration in Pattaya, right among the bars, is also very quick and easy in my experience. 14 days dated from the day stamped, so actually 13.

BTW, if you overstay one day the standard practice is to waive any fine at the airport. There is a guy there whose whole job is to do that. It's a no brainer.

Hi Winston,

The rules are one day overstay in Thailand and you are staying illegally in the country.

Most times you can get away with it but it is up to the immigration officer and his mood if you pay or not.

If you get your passport checked for any reason before you arrive at the airport and you are over by one day or more you will be in deep shit.

There is a thread about this in legal/visa social issues......

Staying more than your legal 30 days.

Yep, just ask BKKphil about how pleasant things can get when you get caught while overstaying 1 day. You should be fine though if you report yourself at the airport. In general, it's bad advice to tell people overstaying is no problem.

Cheers!

if you are overstaying your visa do not, repeat do not carry your passport with you- carry only a copy of the signature/photo page- showing a law enforcement person an expired visa is an open invitation to be abused- for either money or jail
