STD tests....Soi 11 Clinic?

Anyone know anything about Soi 11 Clinic?, on a little soi-loop near soi11. It's a one-doc operation. I often see small dental clinics in thailand (i.e., not in hospital), but I never see doctor offices ("clinics", as he calls it) like this...I only see hospitals containing doctors. Why is that? Or am I just not seeing them?

Anyway, although I think I should have went to a hospital in hindsight, I went in there (because I was a bit worried and wanted to get treated, although now I know there's no rush) and got an std test because of some slight discharge a noticed a few hours earlier (and unprotected sex a week ago--yes, stupid). He took a swab and urine test, looked under the microscope a long time, and said NSU.

Gave me a shot of CEFTRIZONE (500mg), and 2 weeks of

(1) Doxy... (100mg, 2x/day), and (2) Metronidazole (100mg, 3x day).

Charge: 1700B (sounds too high).

It wasn't easy to get the names of the drugs he gave me (he wasn't too interested in giving out info.), but I persisted and he wrote them down. After correcting his spelling, I searched on the web, and I learned (1) that the metro... drug seems to only be prescribed for Trich. (2) The metro drug interacts very badly with ANY ALCOHOL....so no alcohol for 2 weeks!!! I went back the next day and told him about this

serious interaction, and he seemed unaware...very disappointing...In America, one is always given ALOT of info. about drugs you are prescribed.

Based on my net reading, I decided I will just take the Doxy for 7 days.

I'd love to hear TomC's opinion on the above. (and others...anyone been to that clinic?...I'm not saying it's bad, but the alcohol thing is a serious oversight).

Yes.

The clinic is ok, not really that expensive (1500 is their usual price), and what you got is pretty much standard treatment here. Metronidazole is not only prescribed for trichomonas, but are you sure about the dosage?? You are right about the alcohol. Doxycycline for just 1 week may not be enough (is standard though).

There is only one doctor there. Never any other. His picture and diploma (in Thai) is on the wall when you walk in. There is a nurse or two and some other female assistants.

Interestingly, the slight discharge that I had on the day I went there disappeared that night, maybe due to the shot. No more symptoms after that....I'm even suspicious now that I had anything at all....maybe the slight discharge i thought I had (which I saw only inside the tip, not coming out of it) was urine mixed with dust or something.....who knows. I never had any pain at all though. I did have a severe cold that started just before I noticed the trip...I thought I read a while ago that chlymida often produces cold symptoms (sore throught, etc.). But he said he couldn't test for chlymidia.

I actually had the same discharge symptoms a few months ago, but more discharge (maybe because I waited a day or two before going to doc). Went to Pattaya memorial hospital....A female doc looked at, said "gonorrhea" immediately, did a swab test after that, and then gave a shot plus 7 days of doxy. NO urine test. (total: 1000 baht). The discharge went away after one day.

Anyway, I still have never seen any self-contained doctors offices like that in bangkok...only dentist offices ("clinics" as they call them in thailand).

Still not sure where I would go in bangkok for an std test in the future.....the hospitals don't have specialized std clinics....I guess I'd have to see a generalist.

You are joking right? Bumrungrad alone has about 7 infectious diseases specialists - they are shown on their doctor search engine under the category medicine - infectious diseases, directly below medicine, hematology (Blood). Just phone up and book an appointment with one of them - dont mess about with generalists based on my recent experiences of blood clots in another thread.

I am sure many other hospitals have exactly the same setup.

I know, and all that doctor treats is STD's.

Not quite all, when I first moved to BKK and needed medical certificate for my work permit application in a rush, he kindly obliged at 7pm when I was walking back to my hotel and saw the sign for medical clinic. Not cheap though as I recall - he is likely to be onto a good thing there !!

Cheers
