I never knew he was gay, no wonder he wanted me to sit on his knee! Got is gay I think as is Bird, but many look very gay but are not. Many times I'll name a singer I think is gay only for the GF to assure me him hab girlfriend sure. I know that monsit likes the girls as I saw him in Nataree once, he's a nice bloke. At the ekachi concert I went to he had a 'famous' kataoy singer, horrible!

There seem to be quite a few singers going from likay to luktung these days. Oh before the police arrive there is one very good new singer from Nakhon Sawan called Mot Rangsit man. Just got one CD which is hard to get. He has a concert in Bkk this sat with sunaree

Thanks a lot everyone... but seriously, im more confused now than before. Luk thung, phuea chivi & mor lam. I gather these are different styles of thai music? I know its near imposible to explain music in writing so maybe if you could just recomend 2 of your all time favorits to me?

I need one thats really beautifull and one thats really a butt ugly kick a s s rock N roller kind of record.

Thanks again everyone!

To oversimplify slightly:

- luk tung is sentimental drip for middle-aged women;

- plaeng peu chiwit is political ballads (early stuff) or dadrock (later);

- mor lam is some funky shit;

- luk tung prayuk is toned-down mor lam.

Two recommendations for you: beautiful Motorcy hang by Rock Saleng here; rocker Made in Thailand by Carabao (their only decent song) here.

Well, I see Biopsy Cunt are playing at Rock Pub tomorrow, perhaps they have some CDs available which might meet your needs.

Eastbound Downers CD launch party tonight at Dallas in Siam Square, for those who prefer their Thai music a bit more western-influenced.

Did somebody mention thai music? If you join [loads of crap removed; peter why don't you just stay away? - KS] the pay site there is a very, well alright, very average section on thai music what I wrote myself.

Luktung big 7:

Pumpuang Dungchan

Sunaree Rachesima (too glorious for words)

Mike Piromporn

Got Jakrapan (samak he's half thai, bloody ugly I think)

Siriporn Ampaipong

Fon Thanasunthorn

Tai Orathai (fairly new)

morlam

Jintara Poonlap (shes making a film TB)

Job and Joy

Banyen Raggen

Aae Porchana

Pimjai

Dogfa Petchupan

Honey Sri Issan

who the girls like depends if they like string (boo) or luktung/morlam. If they don't like luktung I don't even bother talking to them, got to have something in common after all. Songs for life don't know, only that carabao bloke, needs a spell in the army that one, knock some sense inti 'im. Better get out of here or they'll have the dog on me-peter :)

Too much simplicifation I think. If luktung only interested middle age women you would not see all ages from babies to the almost dead at concerts. Also, many young people, esp girls are big fans, often of the female singers more than the men such as fon. maybe you are thinking of Lukrung, here I would agree as it only seems to attract the older and better off ladies.

Luktung prayuk or luktung Issan is better described as luktung but with a morlam influence, as far as the instruments used at least. Lots of cross over styles these days with some faster luktung almost sounding more like string. many morlam singers sing luktung as it's more popular in LOS, morlams appeal is limited to certain areas, although there are the very occassional big hits like Bo Rak Si Dam

Hi,

I need some recomendations of some good thai music. Who do you enjoy to listen to and why? The genre dont matter as long as its quality. It would also be great to hear who the nations darlings are when it comes to music. In fact, any stories of thai music would also be of great interest to me.

Thanks a big bunch!

"Biopsy Cunt"!? WHAT A GREAT NAME FOR A BAND! Too bad i wont in BKK before july. But will keep an eye out for them. Great tip - thanks Long Gun! :-)

Sounds disgusting, hardly something you could take the family to. Would be a bit embarassing going into a shop and asking 'excuse me miss have you got biopsy cunt's latest' :o
