My First Trip To Bangkok - A Primer For Newbies

This is a long post, but my intent was to provide as much info for newbies that are researching their first trip to Bangkok. I know, because I read almost every trip report on NP before I made this first trip... Enjoy!

About Me

===========================================================

I'm an American...living outside of Washington, DC....29 years old...An independent consultant for a software company. I've been out of the US before, with numerous trips (20+) to Europe, including a one year stint in Stockholm, Sweden for work. During my stay in Sweden, I visited Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam -- once in December 2003, and again in April 2004. My uncle was living there at the time and got married to a Vietnamese girl on my first trip. Both times I flew from Stockholm via Bangkok to HCMC on Thai Airways. I never stopped for a stay in Bangkok during those trips... I only saw Don Muang International Airport before boarding another plane.

I have been working 60+ hour weeks since December 2004 on a long term project for a large mobile phone company in the US. I definitely needed a break. And so, I booked a trip to Bangkok.

Day 1-2 - Wednesday & Thursday, June 1-2, 2005

===========================================================

I booked the new direct flight from JFK to BKK on Thai Airways. Most of you are already aware of this flight. It is the 17.5 hour New York Express flight that is advertised all over Bangkok. The price for the round-trip ticket was $850.00 USD. It was the best deal I could find, and obviously the quickest route to Thailand. So that meant, I just needed to get from Washington DC to New York to catch that flight.

I took a cab from my home outside of Washington DC at 5:30am for an Independence Air flight from Washington-Dulles (IAD) to New York (JFK). Independence Air is based in Washington and has low cost tickets to about 25 locations, New York being one of them. The total for a round-trip flight was $140.00 USD. I was slightly concerned about making the connection in New York, since I had to re-check my luggage, and JFK Airport has multiple terminals, but it turned out that Independence Air and Thai Airways share the same terminal, and their ticket counters are literally next to each other.

I arrived in New York with no problems, and the flight even arrived early, so I was already in the queue when the Thai Airways counter opened for check-in. 10 minutes later, I'm checked in, and waiting around for 2.5 hours until the flight boarded. But it gave me plenty of time to buy some books, get some breakfast, and start writing in my trip journal from which this report is based.

I boarded the flight to Bangkok for my 12:00pm flight, and had a window seat. The seats in economy aren't too bad, but on the return I will definitely need to see about upgrading using frequent flyer miles or paying for it myself. The flight was pretty non-eventful... I didn't sleep at all - probably due to excitement as well as not being too comfortable, but I did get to watch 7 movies. All of the seats have a screen with on-demand video, so you get to pick which movie you watch, as well as control it, including pause, stop, fast-forward, etc.

The flight went eastbound over Greenland, Europe, the Middle East, India and into Thailand. Almost 18 hours later, we are on approach to land at Don Muang International Airport. After reading tons of trip reports in preparation of my trip, I picked up a few tips that were common to all.... [color:"red"]Tip #1 - Get to immigration as soon as possible to avoid the long lines. So as soon as that plane hit the gate, I was up and headed for the door. As I walked out the plane, I could definitely smell it... the air does have something in it, and it empowered me for my race to immigration. I was able to get to the front of the line, since I was relatively familiar with the airport from previous trips to Vietnam, and lo and behold, I find an empty customs line. Within 30 seconds, I'm admitted into the Kingdom, and I'm headed off to grab my bag. My luggage arrives, and I'm out into the arrivals lounge. A quick change of USD to Baht to pay for a taxi...and I'm outside in the taxi line. [color:"red"]Tip #2 - Head outside to the taxi line instead of listening to the 20+ people asking you if you need a taxi inside. They are just trying to sell you an expensive ride into the city. I get into a taxi and tell him to take me to my hotel and to take the expressway. I pay for the tolls along the way, and arrive about 30 minutes later. The one thing I found amusing is that he had to go all the way down Sukhumvit to Soi Asok to do a u-turn to get to my hotel, the Landmark Plaza, but it was cool to see things along the way and get a lay of the land, including a quick look at where Soi Cowboy is located.

Check-in was a breeze. I am staying on the Lifestyle Floor, a newly redesigned floor of rooms that are very posh, and include internet access, separate shower/bath, pedestal sinks, remote control lights, DVD player, etc. The rate is about $110.00 USD a night, originally $140.00, but I called the hotel and worked out a deal since I was staying 10 nights. This rate also included the breakfast buffet. I booked this expensive room (by Bangkok standards) for two reasons... first, as a consultant, I travel a lot so I'm used to a certain level of hotel, and second, it turns out I have to do a few hours of work while I'm here so I can write off most of this trip as a business expense. The company I contract to found out I was going to be in Thailand and asked me if I could do a few hours of work while I was there. I didn't mind as long as it wasn't a few days of work (it turned out to be less than 4 hours).

After unpacking, I take a much needed shower, order some room service, and hit the sheets. Now, I know most of you are saying... WHAT THE F***! You didn't go out? But, I needed sleep... my original plan was to take a nap and get up at midnight to head out, but that turned into sleeping until 7:00am. In retrospect, that will never ever happen again. I promise.

[color:"red"]Tip #3 - I really enjoyed the location of my hotel on Sukhumvit. It was extremely convenient to the major nightlife spots (NEP, Soi Cowboy, Thermae, Soi 7 Biergarden). As well, there were tons of restaurants within walking distance with all types of food choices. I would definitely recommend the Landmark Hotel to anyone, but obviously, it may not fit everyone's budget, and in most cases, you probably want to spend more money on bar-fines and drinks then a place to lay your head (or get your head laid) at night.

Day 3 - Friday, June 3, 2005

===========================================================

Woke up early, and headed to the breakfast buffet. The Landmark certainly knows how to put on a buffet. I had my choices of eggs, waffles, pancakes, fruit, sandwiches, etc... My favorite by far was the fresh juices -- orange, pineapple, guava. I drank about 2 liters of pineapple juice. It was so good.

I booked an afternoon tour to visit three temples -- Wat Traimit, Wat Benchamaborpit and Wat Po. It was a good introduction to Buddhism, and very interesting to see the different styles of architecture used in the construction of the temples.

I got back to the hotel at 5:45pm, and took a quick shower before heading out to meet the NP group at Gulliver's on Soi 5. I had some reservations about meeting a group in which I didn't know anyone, but figured if I didn't like it, I would head out after one beer.

It turns out that about 25 people showed up at Gulliver's that night. I met a bunch of people who were all eager to take me out and show me Bangkok since it was my first trip. I spent a long time talking with Khun_Kong, who also has lived in Virginia, Mad Max and Mr Pickles. After a few beers, we head out to our first destination, Soi 33 (The Artists's Bars). We take the SkyTrain to Soi 33 (I forget which stop it was), and we end up at a bar named "Dali" to meet up with some other guys. We stayed for 30 minutes or so before heading out to Soi Cowboy.

When we arrive at Soi Cowboy, my brain is already starting to overload. The sights, the smells, the neon... It's like Vegas on Viagra. We make our way to the first bar, Midnite. Within minutes, I have a girl on my lap shoving her tongue down my throat. I buy her a lady drink (LD) and she seems so content with letting my hands roam wherever, while giving me a nice lap dance. My brain is completely on overload at this point, and now to compound the problem, all the blood has rushed to my nether region. I was pretty close to bar-fining that first girl when the guys announced we were headed out to catch one of the many shows. Thanks guys for not allowing me to bar fine the first girl I met. I truly appreciate it.

Our next destination was Sheba's. We stayed at Sheba's for 45 minutes or so watching a good lesbian show where the girls were completely naked except for a belt and were eating each other out on stage. We then headed to Cactus where they had the girls all wearing short skirts, and for a 20 Baht tip, they would dance on top of your head. I was amazed to find out there was nothing under those short skirts. It was a good up close and personal introduction to the Bangkok nightlife, and I was reminded by my new NP friends that this definitely was not America, and touching was definitely allowed. I think at one point I was sitting on my hands like they make you do in US strip clubs. I quickly rectified that situation.

Khun_Kong recommended that we walk down to the Nana Entertainment Plaza (NEP) to watch the parade as it was approaching closing time. For newbies, at closing time, all of the girls within NEP all head out to the parking lot of the Nana Hotel to find a last minute boyfriend for the night.

Khun_Kong and I sat at the rail at Big Dogs and watched the parade. At this point, after 24 hours, I'm ready to sell everything and move here. It's hard even now to put the entire experience into words. But, I must admit I was starting to get a bit worried... here I was... closing time.... and no one to go home with.

I happen to see a cute thing heading home for the night. She (M) looked up at me on the rail, and I motioned for her to come up. She walks up, and her English is perfect, with a little Australian accent. Khun_Kong asks M a few questions about herself... and then gives me a bit of a nod. I ask M if she wants to come back to my room. She agrees, and we're off to the Landmark. All that worrying is for nothing as we walk back hand in hand.

We settle into the room, and spend some time talking and kissing in between questions. It was nice that there was absolutely no language barrier with my first BG. We shower separately then join each other on the bed. Her body was tight, and I spend what seemed an hour analyzing every inch of it with my tongue. A brief BBBJ, then on with the condom, where she rides me like a bucking bronco. We finish up and she tell me that she can't stay the night because she has to take a bus home to visit her parents (or has been bar-fined for an extended time). I give her 1000 Baht and she's out the door, and I fall asleep with a smile on my face. She tells me that she dances at Angelwitch and she'll be back on Wednesday.

[color:"red"]Tip #4 - Definitely hit Gulliver's (Soi 5) on Friday nights at 6:30pm. The NP guys make everyone feel very welcome, and I am very thankful to them for showing me the sites of the Bangkok nightlife.

Day 4 - Saturday, June 4, 2005

===========================================================

Woke up early to grab breakfast and more pineapple juice. Went back to the room to take a nap. About 1:00pm, Khun_Kong called my room to see if I needed an excuse to get rid of the girl from previous night, and to invite me to a birthday party for his wife. I get ready and take the SkyTrain to meet Khun_Kong. We have a good time discussing things about Bangkok, my trips to Vietnam, and how he ended up in Thailand. We are joined by Mr Pickles, Mad Max and friends of Khun_Kong's wife, including a ladyboy. It was very interesting to see how people interact with ladyboys. It is very much accepted in Thailand, something I just don't ever see happening in America.

[color:"red"]Tip #5 - I saw a lot of ladyboys while in Bangkok. There are a ton on Sukhumvit past 11:00pm, and a bunch in front of NEP. If that's what your looking for, then you'll be happy. For me, I always made sure that the girls I were with were indeed brought into this world as girls. As I've already said, it is very much accepted in Thailand. A few things I did notice about them to help you determine if you're unsure... 1. They tend to be extremely flirtatious. 2. They seem to be taller, as well as have broader shoulders. 3. They seem to be overly made-up and tend to play with their hair a lot. 4. If they have an adam's apple, you can be sure it's a ladyboy.

Took a cab back to the hotel, dropped Mad Max off at his apartment. No one seemed to be going out that night, so it looked like I was headed out on my own. I shower, and change clothes and head out to NEP. On the way, I see a guy that looks familiar, Mad Max. He changed his mind, and decided to go out. We have a beer at Big Dogs, and then watch the show in Angelwitch. Mad Max leaves after about an hour, and I'm on my own in this crazy world known as the Bangkok nightlife.

A cute girl (N) ends up next to me at Angelwitch. I buy her and the mamasan a couple LD's, and have a good time joking around with them during the various shows. N asks me to bar fine her, and I do. We stay for 20 more minutes to give her time to change, then we're off to the Landmark. She is extremely shy when we get back to the hotel, but finally showers. I shower after she's finished, and find her under the covers when I come out of the bathroom.

I get in bed, and hit the lights, and she immediately turns into a sex machine. She's all over me...kissing, licking, etc... We spend a long night together which wears me completely out. This girl definitely wanted to please, and earn her money. At 8:00am, after 3 extended sessions with brief naps in between, I'm ready for her to head out so I can get some real sleep. I give her 2000 Baht. She complains that the taxi won't have change for it, so I give her 100 Baht note. Should have taken one of the 1000 Baht notes back and made change, but oh well, she did keep me up all night. She asks me to come by tonight to bar fine her again. I tell her I have to meet friends, but I may meet her later in the week. She seems content with that answer.

Day 5 - Sunday, June 5, 2005

===========================================================

Woke up at 3:00pm after a much needed sleep. Took a shower and grabbed a cab to head to Chao Phraya 2 (CP2), the mecca for the soapy massage. I had printed out the card from the net, so it was very easy to give it to the taxi driver. He tried to sway me to other massage parlors, but I kept firm that my friends had recommended CP2. Arrived at CP2, and entered to see the famous fishbowl. The papasan explains the system to me. Four levels of girls... traditional Thai massage (massage/sex), superstar massage (sex only), sideline girls and body massage (soapy massage/sex). I am slightly confused because at no time was the word soapy massage used, but quickly figure out that body massage must be that choice. I spend a few minutes and finally choose a girl.

Some American walks up to me and asks if I just chose "#XX" (I don't actually rememeber which # she was), I answer that I did, and he tells me that I made a good choice and follows that up with one of the funniest lines I've ever heard at a massage parlor..."She's a firecracker...".

I meet my girl and pay for the session... I think it was 1900 Baht. We head up the elevator to the room, and she orders a coke for me while the tub is filling up. There's a lot already said about CP2, so I won't go into too much detail...but after the bath, the soapy massage and the bed... I was feeling very relaxed after my previous night. I head out to grab a cab, and it is pouring rain. It eases up a bit and they go stop a cab for me.

After a quick dinner, I head back over to NEP. I stop at a few bars on the bottom floor, then head up the escalator. My destination was Mandarin, which had been recommended by Khun_Kong. I am immediately targeted by a cute little thing when I sit down, but I've already got eyes on another. The other (B) comes over shortly after she's done dancing, and it's quite clear that the original girl is pissed, but, hey, I was nice about it and bought her a couple LD's. B has got a nice body, and IMO one of the best dancers at Mandarin. She's got those hips that just mesmerize when she's dancing. I decide to bar-fine her, and she changes. We head over to the Nana Restaurant so she can grab something to eat and we can talk a bit. I learn she has a son, and is thinking of leaving the bar at the end of the month.

We get back to the hotel, and she takes on this whole new personality. After I took my contact lenses out, she grabs my glasses and puts them on. She tells me that she is my teacher and I am her student. At this point, she's wearing a black bra, a black g-string and my glasses. I definitely never had a teacher like this in school. We take a shower together, then end up having a good class, where she grades me on everything I do. Hopefully, I passed with straight A's. She spends the night, and in the morning, we continue our studies. As she is leaving, I give her 2000 Baht, and she is happy with that amount.

[color:"red"]Tip #6 - It's been said before, but I'll say it again... You have to try the soapy massage while in Thailand. While it's not the most relaxing massage I've had, it definitely was a highlight of my trip. The feeling of a beautiful Thai girl massaging you with her body is beyond words.

Day 6 - Monday, June 6, 2005

===========================================================

Took a quick nap until 9:00am, then got ready to actually do some work. I headed out to my client's office via SkyTrain, and spent about 4 hours there. They were very happy with the work, and I was happy that it didn't take too long. Get back to the hotel, and decide to head off to the Eden Club on Soi 7/1.

Had no trouble finding Eden. I go in and meet Mark, the owner. He explains everything to me, even though, I pretty much had the inside track from information on the net. I pick one girl from the right side of the line (A) and she chooses her friend (J). Off we go through the backdoor to the short-time hotel with a suitcase full of condoms and dildos. A showers me, then we proceed to fool around while J is showering. The ladies give me a good double BBBJ which is finished off in A's mouth. I watch them use the strap-on on each other while I am recharging, then on with the condom, as I pound J while A is licking my balls. I switch between girls a few times (new condom every time), and finish up. We shower again, then head out to pay the bill. I think the total was around 3500 Baht, and I gave the girls a small tip. Overall a good experience, but much like it has been described on this board... almost like being in a porn movie, but not the full GFE that I've been accustomed to in Bangkok.

[color:"red"]Tip #7 - I would definitely try to hit Eden while in town. While it was not the GFE that I had experienced on my first few days, I thought the entire experience was pretty cool. It did indeed make me feel like I was in a porno movie. There is no hassle with bargaining with a bar girl for something you want (i.e. anal). If you want anal sex, you can get it.

I head back to the hotel and grab some dinner on the way. Tonight, I am headed back to Soi Cowboy. I take the SkyTrain to the Asok station, and head straight for Midnite. I have a few beers and am surrounded by 3 girls while the waitress gives me a massage. LD's all around... the massage alone was worth it. One girl takes a liking to me, and we spend a lot of time with her rubbing my dick, and me rubbing her breasts. She tells me that she gives a good massage, and if I take her upstairs to the short-time room, she will do whatever I want.

I like that attitude so off we go to the short-time room upstairs (costs 250 Baht). She showers, then proceeds to give me a good full body massage, followed by a nice round of sex. I get dressed, give her 1000 Baht, receive a wai, and I'm on the street feeling pretty damn good.

I was going to head back to the hotel, but I heard some live music in one of the bars. I decided that it would be nice to listen to a live band, so I stop into Country Road. I order a Singha and listen to the band play some really cheesy American rock and country music. The vocals weren't the best, but the guitar player was pretty good.

As I was sitting there, a girl (G) comes up and asks to sit with me. She apologizes and tells me that she is very sleepy, and that she just wanted to make it look like she was with a customer so her manager wouldn't give her a hard time. I don't mind as I'm there listening to the music anyway. I spend about an hour there, occasionally talking to G when she isn't napping. I actually feel bad for her, but don't have enough money on me to bar-fine her so she can just go home. I tell her this and she is very appreciative, but tells me that she is ok. The manager comes over to her and tells her that another customer asked about her. She tells me to comeback tomorrow and she'll be more talkative. I head back to the hotel and grab some sleep.

Day 7 - Tuesday, June 7, 2005

===========================================================

Got up early to grab some breakfast and pineapple juice. Booked a tour to the Grand Palace this morning. I spent the morning at the Grand Palace taking a bunch of pictures (had to have something tourist related to show friends). Got back to the hotel around 1:00pm, and took a nap.

Woke up around 5:00pm...showered, and headed out to grab an early dinner. After eating, I walked around a bunch then headed back to Soi Cowboy to Country Road. I wait in the bar for a while but there is no sign of G. I was about to give up, and head out, when I feel a tap on my shoulder, and turn around to receive a hug from G.

G and I spend the night at Country Road listening to the band. I bar-fine her, and we head out to the cafe in the basement of the Landmark. G surprises me and orders Spaghetti Carbonara. I order fried rice and chicken with basil and garlic.

We head up to my room, and we spend a lot of time talking with each other. She is pretty shy, and we end up falling asleep. In the middle of the night, we both end up naked, and spend the rest of the night entwined. In the morning, she gives me the best BBBJ of my life.

Day 8 - Wednesday, June 8, 2005

===========================================================

G woke up at about 10:00am, and I continue to sleep. I hear her get ready and leave, and am surprised that she left without any money. About an hour later, I hear the doorbell. She's back after getting something to eat, and she's brought me some fresh orange juice. I finally get out of bed, and get ready. We grab a cab to Pantip Plaza. We walk around for an hour or so. I buy her a cheap MP3 player. She says she bought a second hand computer here and spends a lot of time on the internet.

We end up grabbing a quick bite at KFC, which is her idea. Man, this girl is not typical... she likes fried chicken and Spaghetti Carbonara. We walk past one of the booths that sell DVD's and she asks if we can buy some to watch in the hotel. She picks a few movies out, and we wait for 15 minutes while they go retrieve them (burn copies).

We take a tuk-tuk back to the hotel, which is something I've never done. It actually was quite fun, albeit very hot when we were stopped in traffic. She apologizes numerous times for not getting a cab, but I laugh it off because I'm actually enjoying the experience. We head back to the room, and put in one of the DVDs. She falls asleep 15 minutes into the movie, but I didn't mind one bit, because she was cuddled up to me the entire time.

[color:"red"]Tip #8 - If you can bear the polution and heat, I would recommend taking at least one tuk-tuk ride. It was definitely a cool experience for me. Make sure to bargain with the driver. My driver originally wanted 100 Baht, but G bargained him down to 60 Baht from Pantip to Sukhumvit. Of course, it helped to have G around to speak Thai to anyone that didn't speak English very well.

I wake her up when the movie is finished and we head back to Country Road to pay her bar-fine. We had a few drinks at Country Road, then she asks me to take her to a go-go bar. She says she has never been in one, and is curious if the girls are good dancers. I take her into Sheba's and we sit for one drink. She is not very impressed. We walk back to the hotel, and grab a quick bite at the cafe. This time she finally eats Thai food.

We head back to the room, and spend some time making out, and talking. Sometime during the night, I receive another BBBJ, and we end up having sex. What a nice day with a new friend...

Day 9 - Thursday, June 9, 2005

===========================================================

We wake up for breakfast and head down to the buffet. She is overwhelmed at the selection of foods, while I am happy to have some eggs and pineapple juice. We go back to the room and get ready, and then we're off on the SkyTrain to the Emporium. She would like to watch "Mr. & Mrs. Smith", which came out today. We eat a pizza at Pomodoro, and then head up to get tickets. The next showing isn't for an hour and a half. I tell her that I'd rather watch a movie in the hotel, and that I want to go shopping for some suits.

We take the SkyTrain to the Nana station, and she takes me to a tailor on Soi 11 that a friend of hers recommended. I decide to get two suits made, and that includes two shirts and ties as well. I pick out all the styles, fabric, etc., and get all the measurements taken. They say it will be no problem to have them ready by Saturday.

[color:"red"]Tip #9 - The SkyTrain is a great way to get around Bangkok. It is air conditioned (and started to be really cold towards the end of the trip when my body adjusted to the heat) and it is cheap.

We walk over to the food cafe on Soi 7. On the way, I buy G a new shirt and dress, and a couple thongs. She has been wearing the same clothes for 2 days, so I figure she deserved a change. I think the total cost was like 300 Baht. I can definitely deal with shopping with a woman if it turns out to be so cheap.

We grab something to eat, and then head back to the hotel. We both shower and get ready to go out. We take the SkyTrain to Asok, and walked to Country Road to bar-fine G for the night. We spend all night listening to the band and doing tequila shots. G definitely cannot hold her liquor. We head out at closing time and walk back up Sukhumvit toward the hotel. G grabs some Papaya Salad and I grab a coke from one of the many vendors.

We head back to the hotel and G falls asleep quickly. I watch TV for a bit, then catch some sleep.

Day 10 - Friday, June 10, 2005

===========================================================

G and I get up about 9:00am. She is very apologetic for falling asleep last night, and makes it up to me in a very good way. We grab some breakfast, and then head back to the room to shower. We head over to the tailor for my first fitting around 3:00pm. Everything turned out very well, and should be finished by noon tomorrow. G says she doesn't even recognize me wearing a suit, since all I've been wearing is shorts or jeans.

At this point, I'm thinking that it's my last full night in Bangkok, and it's time for me to separate from G to have one last night of fun, but the other side of me is enjoying my time with her, and not ready for it to end.

She actually makes the decision for me, and decides that it will be easier on both of us if we say our goodbye's today. She turns her phone on for the first time in 3 days, and it starts ringing almost immediately. She says that she is meeting friends at the Biergarden on Soi 7, and I'm heading off to Gulliver's for the NP weekly meeting. We say our goodbye's and exchange emails. I must admit that I'm truly sad to see her go.

I head over to Gulliver's and see all the guys. I update Khun_Kong and Mr Pickles on my week. Mr Pickles says that he's taking me to Nana Disco tonight to check out that scene. The three of us meet up with another friend and head over to Mandarin in NEP. My friend, B, from a few days ago is working, and wants me to bar-fine her, but I tell her that I'm hanging out with friends all night.

Khun_Kong leaves shortly after and promises to call me in the morning to do some sightseeing. I head over to the Golden Beer Bar in the Nana Hotel with our other friend, while Mr Pickles checks out Nana Disco. We tell him we'll be there shortly. I end up bar-fining a hot little thing (J) from Golden for 350 Baht.

We all end up at Nana Disco. I'm blown away by the ratio of women to men, and all the hot women in the place. It's basically a smorgasborg of women for the taking. As I'm standing there, G walks up to me and kisses me on the cheek, and then introduces a friend of hers to me. I felt really bad since I had this other girl, J, next to me, but I think G understood. She tells me she will email me, but at that point in time, I figure that's probably not going to happen.

J and I stay for a while, then end up walking back to the Landmark. She makes me forget all the drama with G, and I proceed to enjoy my last full night with a sex kitten, since she purrs when I do things to certain parts of her anatomy. I drift off to sleep...

Day 11 - Saturday & Sunday, June 11 - June 12, 2005

===========================================================

Woke up early and have another session with J. I show her to the door around 10:00am, and give her 2000 Baht for her time. I start packing my bags, and laying out things for my trip to the airport later that night. I call Khun_Kong and he says he will meet me at my hotel at 1:00pm. Khun_Kong checks out my room, and we head out to take a ride on the river. We go from one end to the other, and we end up getting back to the hotel around 5:45pm. I confirm my limo ride to the airport (included in the rate), shower, and check out of the hotel.

[color:"red"]Tip #10 - Try to take a ride on the river. It was very relaxing and a good break from the heat of the city. I got a lot of good photo's on the river to show friends and family back home.

Khun_Kong and Mr Pickles were waiting in the Soi 7 Biergarden while I checked out. I grab something to eat, and Khun_Kong and I walk around a bit. We end up at NEP, and hit a couple bars, but by then, I'm running out of time for any fun.

I head back to the hotel, grab my bags, and head out to the airport. I decided to pay for an upgrade to Economy Plus on the way back, and it was definitely worth the money. I pay my exit tax, and head through passport control with no problems. I do some last minute shopping, and decide to pay a visit to the Oxygen Bar for a massage. It was a nice way to relax before getting on my plane home.

I boarded the plane, and we took off on-time enroute to New York. We flew over China, Alaska, Canada and into New York. So basically, I've literally gone around the world in this trip. I arrived back to JFK early, and got on an earlier flight to DC than I originally booked. The flight was delayed for a couple hours due to maintenance problems. I felt the tears stirring as I heard the Thai Airways flight boarding to return to Bangkok. It took all of my willpower not to go buy a ticket and get on that flight.

Epilogue

===========================================================

So after being back a week, I've had a good amount of time to think about the trip and put a lot of my thoughts into this trip report. I know it's long, but as a first-timer to Bangkok, I hope it helps other newbies out when researching their trips. While I didn't get to see everything (Patpong, Pattaya, etc.), I think I hit most of the requirements to lose my newbie status.

I did receive an email from G since I've returned. I was glad to hear from her and see that there was no ill feelings from my last night in Nana Disco when I ran into her with another girl on my arm.

I'm already booking my return for later this year to stay a bit longer and see some other areas like Pattaya, Chiang Mai, etc.

I want to thank everyone from NanaPlaza.com for all their trip reports, info, and the great hospitality they showed me on my trip. Special thanks to Khun_Kong, Mad Max and Mr Pickles for their guidance and knowledge. I am looking forward to seeing you guys later this year.

Great trip report, it's always fun to see through someone elses eyes.

It was a pleasure meeting you, you got with the program pretty quickly; that white skirt atop your head in Cactus kind of made you look like a large, happy lamp.

Hurry back, we'll keep a Chang cold for you. You'll be surprised how many girls will remember your name.

Great report!

My first trip to BKK was several years back for my employer. I was there three months.

I just had to return and went alone a year ago before I knew anything about NanaPlaza.com. It's nice to hear the members here rolled out the carpet for you. It can be a bit overwhelming at first.

I hope I can meet up with the NP members on my next trip.

Great Post. It has been a while since I have been to thailand. It brings back great memories of my trips with friends to LOS. All the new smells and experiences. My life has changed so much since then with wife and child. Makes me really long for those days of freedom.

I do see a trip in the near future. One of my buddies who always made the Thailand trips is now working with the state department and has been posted in Cambodia. (He was real happy about that!). So now I have an excuse to go. I cant wait. I am getting primed again by reading some of these posts.
