...

In Pattaya, would you stay at the honey Inn, Skytop Hotel, or Sawadee Sea View (Wing B)? thanks. -Pat

Tried and true:

Soi 13, off Beach Road: Inn House, Sandy Spring, Dynasty. I believe Dynasty even has a transport deal if you stay at the unit on Soi 4.

Soi 2: Sabai Inn or Sabai Lodge.

Walking Street: The Del la Mer looks fun. Nice rooms, cheap, hard to get closer to the action.

Send me another PM if you need more than this.

BTW, even if your plans completely tank, you will STILL have the best experience of your life! :)

...In addition to the obvious pastimes, I am planning on doing some of the "tours". Perhas a jungle tour up north, or a side trip to Laos or even Phuket? ...

You might want to hold this off for a longer trip. The North is a whole experience in itself. It wouldn't surprise me if you never made it off the Ten Blocks of Paradise along Suk!

We can provide photos of scenic Northern locales, with your face Photoshopped in, if you need somethging to show your Grandma, the Jersey femi-nazies and the old biddies at your office.

It was decades ago that myself and a friend stumbled into Bangkok with just an old copy of Lonely Planet. It only took a few days to learn about the Nana Hotel. It was booked. We learned and on next trip and all subsequent trips we book in advance at the Nana Hotel.

The Nana Hotel is a little tired now but still the best location. And the restaurant is open 24/7. The Disco is great. The Golden Beer Bar (outside) is still the best place in the world to have a drink and to watch humanity walk by. Need a nice watch? Also, try Annie's short walk down soi/street for a good "sudsie".

On the last trip we arrived at hotel closer to 02:00 AM. Too tired for anything. I walked to 7-Eleven for some OJ and on way back the edge of Nana Hotel parking lot was full of girls. Within 15 seconds and still walking toward hotel door I had a deal for a cutie for 1,000 bahts. And there was a large number of choices.

Next night, Nana Plaza, 2nd floor and got a stunner for barfine and 1,000 bahts longtime.

But to answer your question. A few days in Bangkok in the beginning is better in my book. Then down to Pattaya. I suggest the Penthouse in Pattaya for first timers. www.penthousehotel.com . This is an interesting hotel and all should stay there once. Good location and short walk to Walking street. Couple good GoGo's just across street. I only stayed the one time but it certainly is memorable. It's the rooms and the ambience of the hotel decor that grabs you. I think it still has a free buffet breakfast too. If not, the breakfast is only 99 baht.

There are minibuses going and coming to and from Bangkok/Pattaya and will pick you up at your hotel and drop you off at your hotel of desitination - but you must ask if they do this. Any travel agent can do this for you and there is a travel agent in lobby of Nana Hotel - but shop around. The Dynasty Hotel (across from Nana Hotel) has a minibus for 350 Baht that leaves Bangkok every day at 11:00 AM (free if you spend two nights at one of the Dynasty Hotels in Pattaya or Jomtien. I have seen the minibus as low as 350 baht. Taxi around 1,000 baht. Yes, you can travel to the bus station for much cheaper - depends on how many stops and transfers you are willing to take.

For cheap money in Pattaya check out the Bella Vista hotel for 550 baht (more in high season) on Soi 8. Email: bellahotel@hotmail.com.

In Pattaya, to get around, the Baht busses/taxi cost 10 baht and are out there 24/7. They make a loop around 2nd road/beach road down to Walking Street.

But warning, of the three mates I traveled to Thailand with over the years, two are now married to Thai gals ! :)

Good Luck !

My only caveat with the Penthouse hotel is the persistent rumours of hidden cameras being hooked up in the rooms. It's got enough credence for me that I won't stay in that hotel. Though the rooms are plush if exceedingly small and it would be nice if another hotel was as nicely decorated.

Ah . . . that would be interesting to come back a few years later and see yourself on the porn channel on the TV in room. But then again, was/am I/you that good?

But what is to prevent any hotel from placing a hidden camera in room? Bring some tape next time and cover up the smoke detector. But now that I think of it, do any of the hotels have smoke dectors?

But anyway, if word ever got out that any hotel had hidden cameras - it would be all over this bullitan board - and either occupancy would go down or up depending on the clientel.

I stayed at Penthouse twice. Once in 1999 and again in 2000. The only cameras were the in-house transmissions via your tv from the Cats (now Kittens) on site GoGo. I got to know the GM and the bar mgr., and was given a couple gratis bar fines of their "top" puyings. Back in the room no indication whatsoever about clandestine cameras. The girls would be aware of this.

That was then, this is now. I satisfied my bacchanalian desires and no longer wish to endure the cacaphony of Soi Pattayalnd 2 especially at daybreak with the refuse pick up and unmuffled bikes and scooters using the soi as their personal Grand Prix. That being said, a newbie will enjoy. >> I reckon so.

  • 2 weeks later...

for those who care (and those who don't)..I have finally made "tentative" plans... lol. I am arriving in BKK for 4 nights at the Nana (for the "experience"). Everything I've read has made me belive that no trip to LOS is complete withotu the Nana experience. After 4 days, I will go to Pattaya and stay at either... (yes, still undecided, but almost there).. Areca Lodge (B1695 per night), Sawadee Sea View Wing B (B900 per night), Honey Inn (B750 per night), or Sabai Lodge (B1500 per night).

WelKom Inn (1500), Skytop (750) and Nova Lodge (1450) have also made offers. I know this is peak season, so I'm betting jobbed no matter what. I don't care too much about price (my first trip), i just want to get shit-faced, laid and well-fed every night.

I like the nightlife but don't want to hear it when I'm trying to sleep. I like beautiful women at the last minute, but don't want to pay too much. (lol) (who doesn't). I have about $300 USD to spend for fun every day.. Help!! Where the fuck shoudl I go?
