depends on your expected living standards and the minimum you would tolerate.

things can run out of hand if you live in pattaya and you are too horny for the chix.

if you live in rural issan it could be a tad cheaper.

do you want aircon running all the time ? so many imponderables.

Chilling in Pattaya at bars with hookers until I die or mucking around an Isaan village or town until I pass my last breath? I would rather commit suicide on the day of my retirement. The only exception would be if I decided to start a family while in retirement. Then doing the domestic lifestyle thing on a farm or in the burbs would be okay.

Some of you chaps must be easily amused on small sums of money. Personally I could not dream of retiring in LOS unless I had a minimum income of US $10,000 per month.

Why give up a good standard of living in the US to live like a pauper in LOS? I am still going to want to travel and see the world, have a mia noi or two, go shopping as I please, go to nice restaurants, etc. You can't do that on an English teachers salary or US$1000 per month pension.

Retirement for me means I have a hell of alot more free time to explore my interests and spend money. I guess retirement for most folks means picking a location and waiting to die!

well, I've never had 10 000$ to spend in a month, and have had less than 1000$. Always enjoyed myself.

I can do with more than 1000, but the question is about minimum. 1000 spending money, and a full tank in the bike, I felt great and i will still.

Only i do not want to be stuck in LOS, yearlong, with some stupid visa whose new regulations might throw me off the game any year. What's the point of having the great fortune to be born in France, be an american citizen if it is to be at the mercy of petty 3rd world politicians and cops ::?

No visa runs every 3 months for me, thanks... I want to split between france and SEA (forget US once i stop making money there), so i will need more than 1000 for sure, but for LOS, yes, 1000 is cool by me.

Seems to me you only know one way to enjoy life.

There are thousands of ways to improve your education.

If ever you get a serious health problem you will think differently, but hell who cares? :cussing:

I picked a location, I picked a girl and I am not waiting to die but having the best time in my life. (working with a bunch of idiots for 30 years, that was shit) :hubba:

We're not all loaded like you JJ - to me $10K a month is a lot, to you I'm sure it barely covers the laundry. The OP was asking what a conservative lifestyle would cost, not what a bigshot throwing 1000Baht notes around like confetti would go through.

I posted on this abt 6 months ago ('The Magic Figure'), asking if the figure was still (US) 500K, and the answer was the same - it depends. There are no guarantees, certainly not in relation to unpleasant shit like inflation, domestic unrest in Asia or the state of one's ticker. I think most of us would agree that being able to make some form of supplementary income has benefits beyond the few shekels that it might bring in - staying 'grounded' seems to be a problem for retirees, be they in Bangkok or Bondi.

:ile I said before, and was mocked by one, I nearly died a few times when I was 24, and saw other guys younger, older, same age die...kids getting blown up etc, so for me, waking up is a good thing, and I am happy with that each morning, anything else is a bonus. I don't need an extravagant life style to be happy. But, JJ has a point, (jeasus, did I say that? who is typing this? :) ) money does matter when older and not working, choices between food, medicine or rent can truely suck. The stress/problems I see with a lot of retirees is out living their money, and/or medical issues...

You know many who visit LOS do it with a multiple girls a day. I do this because I'm there for limited time. Want to squeeze as many as possible into my schedule!! Yes I'm HYPERSEXUAL. Addicted to sex, booze, running, tennis and so on. I know I have an addictive personality.Even after a session if I see a cute girl at BIG DOGS or anywhere I get an instant schwiiiiiin. What can I say. no need for Viagra! A Walking Erection or a Fish ring a bell?Guess I need to go see a shrink but I won't cause I like my life just the way it is, thank you. As for the post, I simply asked how much is enough? that's all.If I do better with the business I have, I should be looking at more like 2,500 to 3000 grand a month or more. Plus my social security in a few years. Forgot to mention that in my retirement, I'd probably volunteer and travel the world cheaply. Maybe backpacking. I don't have bucks like JJ sushi so. I had a pretty good idea as to how much funds I need to retire. thanx chok dii eee
