limbo
Hi guys, A friend of mine, a Thai woman, asked me about this; Her cell with the sperm of her husband implanted in the womb of another woman to carry and give birth to thier baby. I know it's done in the West but how are chances of doing this legally here in Thailand? Not sure what the right word in English is, therefor 'carry mum' a direct translation from my native lingo. Any comments?

khwaimaisabai
Hi bb, In English, I believe the person is known as a "surrogate mother". This has always seemed a bit strange to me. Khwai

pe7e
Surrogacy is legal in the United Kingdom and reasonable expenses can be paid to the Surrogate Mother. This can vary as every person's expenses will be different. Surrogacy Arrangements are not legally enforceable and therefore great care and time is needed before embarking on such a journey to prevent potential problems becoming too great to overcome afterwards. whosyourdaddy
Yes, common enough in Thailand. There are a few fertility clinics at the bigger university and public hospitals ( CARE at chula, BNH, etc) that specialize in such things. It is not cheap, but an option for parents who really want kids

BadaBing
One word of caution doing this , there was a case here in the US some time ago about the surrogate mother not giving up the child once born. I beleive her case in the court was 9 months of mentally bonding , her body changing , the hormonnes thing , etc. etc. , got real ugly if I remember correctly. Good luck to your friends Bada Bing
