I wasn't aware that if I offered to donate a prize to one of the competitions, then I had the automatic right to change the rules, move the goal posts and appoint my own umpires, so that I get to feel all warm and fuzzy about 50 lousy fucking bucks!!!!! Sounds to me a bit like a farking ****land election campaign. Now, P127 used the word transparancy in a post earlier on. I quite like that word.....I'm pretty dumb ... (but that's genetic. I come from the soda side of the clan....the one's with the "bubbly" natures, but I digress) .... but I think transparant means that you can see through it (or something like that) So, that got me thinking....if I change my donation to an empty bottle of Aussie Shiraz (by first drinking the contents) then I would be feeling all warm and fuzzy (pissed) and my prize donation would be totally transparant, as you would be able to see right through the empty bottle. Am I on the right track here?? or am I missing something?? If I'm right, then I could also set requirements as to how the bottle must be used, in order to be eligable to win the empty bottle prize....Shit, the mind boggles....guys you must take photos with the bottle as a part of the make up of the shot...hehehe :grinyes: I'm thinking I know what I would like to do with the empty bottle :banghead: The moral of this little story (as I see it) is: He who opens mouth and makes promises, must open wallet and honour commitment...end of story Quite simple really..... Maybe we could have a little Poll thingy...but I'm too dumb to set it up. Maybe someone can help me?? My question is......"Should P127 come good with his promised donation???? Options: Option 1. Your suggestion about not counting a 1 in the example you gave, doesn't hold ground IMHO. If I wouldn't have good enough eccess for a couple of days and decided not check out or vote in the context untill my connection is better, than I may well vote a 1 a few days into the contest. Something like this happened to me this month, I couldn't vote for a few days and voted once I was back home, although I didn't vote a 1, I don't see why a 1 should be annulled. At the end of the day, if you don't like the system, maybe you should condider not participating. After all, it's a bloody fun experience for me. I'm not a pro, I can't be arsed if I don't win ( )but really, who cares. Most of the pix we're voting on are snapshots or snapshot quality, with all due respect to the few who deliver good shots. I know mine aren't just more than that. It's the digital area, any idiot can make a quick shot and place it in this contest, so nothing to get too excited about. What I do agree upon is that pix have to be made with your camera (read your camera, since I don't have a prob if someone else puled the trigger on my pix and i submit it). It's wrong tho if pix are lifted from the web and don't originate form your camera! Now let's vote on what the end of year contest is gonna be, OH's fantastic, incredible, utterly brilliant, very original and outstanding idea, (could've been mine) of a series of pix or all pix entered this year (with LHL's pic on hold) or even another option. pattaya127 Posted November 17, 2005 Report Share Posted November 17, 2005 Sour grapes? why? last contest, OH found out stuff by himself which possibly Ks wouldn't have found out, said it publicly, then came up again rightfully in an another post, prior to the new contest, about new members/voters. No one called him sour grapes, on any count. I think to let people know a few of us keep an eye here or there while the voting is on, is a good way to keep some on their toes. Also, you are wrong and misquoting me (again!). i said i would prefer to give the 50 to a charity of your choice, not anything else. Hell, that's a pretty good beer you are drinking! PS: for the one point thingo, It's my opinion if that's OK to have one, and I can say that i will never do that to a shot that is spot on theme, quite readable quality-wise, for the sake of shooting it down against others. It is also important to say that I do not consider KS or ND at all responsible for any of this. we just differ on the response to it, that's all. Dude_Le_Rude Posted November 17, 2005 Report Share Posted November 17, 2005 maybe a stupid question, or maybe it was done this way in the past and the voting system was changed for some logical reason, or maybe the board can not do it for technical reasons... but, if there are only going to be three winners: why not allow only three votes for each board member? then the three pics with the most number of votes would win. rather than have a system where people could lower a submission's average. just a thought. or, do not show the running totals during the contest, and only show the final results after the winners are announced. why not have the prizes assembled before the contest? then there will be no said Indian giving a la 'w' 126.879... a promise is a promise. And how the selection will proceed. My idea about having pros or outside photographers, was to add a little veneer to an end of year competition. It's still 6 or 7 weeks away. None of the shots are pornographic in nature, we may be able to find 2 or 3 who will be kind enough to help with it. If I understand, more people participated in the pix voting than essay voting, I mean, it's not a bad idea. hey, you could take one of the polaroid pixers outside SC or NEP. Just add a little fun or stuffing to the contest, and I think entertaining suspense from different eyes looking at the top choices. about the 50$, it will be in ND's hands, never reneged on that.
