wonderlust
I'm surprised noone's mentioned Singapore given that its constantly rated the best city in the world to live, the first language is English and its so close to BKK (very cheap airfares). limbo
Maybe because it is so nearby and the OP asked about a plce in the West, not another palce in the East or Asia.
wonderlust
Hmm thanks for the insight but both Japan and Australia have been mentioned which are not in the west. I think the OP is looking for somewhere with a western 'feel' i.e. a developed, civilised country with a high standard of living rather than just its geographical location, so Singapore certainly fits the bill and cuts out on long and expensive flights. UAL875
Good thread as it hits close to home, so to speak. My goal is to split the year equally amongst Tokyo, New York City and Bangkok. Right now I spend 10.5/12 in Tokyo, 1/12 in NYC and 0.5/12 in Bangkok. Busting my ass now to get these numbers smoothed out later. Anyone who has spent serious time in Tokyo and New York City ? ~5 years and 33 years, respectively, in my case ? will fully appreciate where I am coming from.
