First dumb question:

How many bottles of spirits/wine, can I legally or reasonably illegally, stuff into my suitcase, on my way from u.k. to Bangkok?

What is the max legally allowed and whats the worst that will happen if I break the rules?

Thanks in advance.

and if you did get stopped??

Just confiscated or a flogging and jail??

I am thinking of 6 bottles of spirits and 6 bottles of wine, as I am there for 30 days.

Don't want to pay LOS prices, when I can go to Tesco's

In my expeience depending on what time your flight arrives you could probably bring a small brewery in your suitcase and get away with it. The last thing they ever want to do is search your bags. If you arrive late evening, I have never seen a bag searched in 8 arrivals this year.

Worst case they probably just take it from you and always remember to act completely innocent. Officially it's 1litre and 200 fags. Good luck and welcome to the board.

Thanks for replys.

Time for an even dumber question. I suspect the answer will be NO, but just checking.

Occasionally, I use the stimulant 'poppers' which ones inhales for a sexual rush. Do a Yahoo search for 'poppers' and it's available from sex shops operating within the u.k. However, it's banned in America.

Anyone know if a bottle of 'poppers' is legal in LOS or not??

I know all about the tough stance on drugs but wondered whether 'poppers' are legal in LOS?

At the moment 'poppers' are legal in the u.k.

Not sure if I'm allowed to post that link, but so moderate if need be!

Any feedback gratefully recieved.

Take a look at this link to Thai Customs web site.

In 20 years I have never had my baggage searched, but if caught the penalty is a fine of 4x the value of the goods + confiscation of the goods and/or up to 10 years jail. There's not much to be saved on spirits if you buy them from the big supermarkets although decent wine is more expensive here. Don't even think about using or bringing illegal drugs into Thailand the penalties are savage. I've an uneasy feeling we will may be reading about you in the press ::

LOL

Don't worry, that's why I'm asking questions, so I don't do anything stupid. Never do drugs myself, ever, apart from the above, which is LEGAL in U.K.

Don't think I'll risk it though.

Looking forward to recieving all your excellent advice over the coming months.

Thank you for the link. I've bookmarked it.

Be lucky!

Sorry if I sounded like a mother hen, but police and the authorities in LOS are very different to the ones you know in the UK. Thailand is a country it's best to stay legal in, I'm sure you will have a great time on your trip, there's lots of good advice and tips to be found on this board, which will save you a lot of time and trouble not to mention money. Enjoy ::

Seems they're not entirely legal in the UK:

"Law: Amyl nitrite is a prescription-only medicine. Possession is not illegal, but supply can be an offence."

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/onelife/health/drugs/poppers.shtml

FYI - can be very, very bad to use these if you also take viagra or any similar ED medications. :rip:

As was already stated, i'd definitely leave these at home.

Have a great trip!
