U.S. Customs searches...

Recommended Posts

Got the usual 1.5 hour bullshit check from U.S. customs, as usual, they found nothing. I am basically sick of this shit. I seem to recall from previous threads on this subject, someone mentioning a way to stop it, a place to write to or whatever.

I am also going to file a freedom of information act, to see if/why I am on any "watch list." this is really starting to bore me/piss me off...a total waste of my time, and government resources...5 fucking agents at one point, all going through my stuff...how many guys/contraband got through while they were wasting time on me...?

I will say, this time the agents were all very nice, unlike previous times.

I have always traveled to Thailand with a friend.

Of the many trips coming back from LOS, we only got searched once. Nothing found that interested them.

But, since, friend has traveled many more times solo. He states he is searched each time back in US. Nothing in his baggage has ever been questioned.

For whatever reason, his theory is that traveling solo, they search him. Traveling with others, less likely to have search.

And the last trip to LOS, I also traveled to Phnom Penh and Saigon. I really thought that that would trigger a search as passport has the Vietnam and Cambodia Visa attached to passport. But there were two of us coming back.

But, alas, no search for either of us.

When I traveled the world more heavily than I do now, I was often subjected to searches by U.S. Customs as well. A lot of it actually boils down to how and when you paid for the ticket. There's a profile that pops in the airlines' computer and if it's deemed to be "suspicious," it's passed to Customs, Homeland Security, etc. Biggest factor seems to be if you paid cash not long before the flight departs, but there are other factors as well.

One guy I know got a lot of hassle because an ex-girl friend made up a story about him smuggling drugs. It took a long time before Customs forgot about him.

Of course, if at any time you've ever been involve in any sort of drug beef, or had an association with someone who was, whether you were charged or not, it will haunt you the rest of you days.

Last time I came back they took about 20 minutes looking thru my stuff (not 100% ) and looking at my floppy discs that had photos (Sony camera)

First they are watching you and how you react , the more nervious that harder seach ,

And they are looking for child porn (good for them),

the agent said that they do find people with child porn on the cameras and laptops (again good job guys)

This guy was OK, he had a job to do and thats OK,

But some of them are real assholes , power trips and really go at it,

The one thing I want and rarely get is after they are finished is

"thank you for your co-operation OC "

I do not think that is part of their training :(

Yeah , I been thru the same , It's not passing the " where the fuck you been ? " questions that has the customs dude scribble something on the entry form to go get " jacked " in another line.

Ho hum , welcome back to your tax paying motherfucking loving country..... :spin:

8 trips for me, all solo, and I've been searched only once. I think the longest I've had to hang around SFO after getting off the plane was about an hour, and that's because my bag was one of the last to come out.

You make pretty frequent trips to Thailand, probably a lot more than the average traveller. That might be a reason you keep getting pulled. Or maybe the agents just like you too mutt OH!!
