Guest
All-- I, UPSer, will be taking two consecutive days off (two days in a row is a record for me) on my next trip to the UK.. Set for 2/22 immediately after leaving BKK.. What's good to do? Funny, I was in the UK over 30 times last year, but only spent five nights there.. We fly into and out of Midlands (EMA) Airport. I'll most likely stay at one of our approved "crew hotels" in the Earl's Court area. I like it out there. There is a Sainsbury's right around the corner from the hotel so I can get my eats there as well and the tube station is only some 150m away from the hotel entrance.. So,.. please all you knowledgeable brits.. What's a guy to do? Replies? --UPSer
Man at Work
Probably spend on one uninspiered f...k as much as you would spend in one week in LOS. London is great,, except for football and sex.
Guest
Go to a pub, spend time trying to chat up ugly fat women, and appreciate all over again how fortunate you are to have the opportunity to spend time in LOS.
JCK
UPSER - I am a Londoner but haven't been seriously sanooking for so long there, my advice would be old hat. My best mate in UK recently sent me an e-mail about a stag night in Soho. You'd better start saving now! Here are the important bits unedited: (Sorry, he comes from the north of England. I can translate if necessary) .....We went down to London the other week for the stag do. Tone came along too. Was OK, went karting at a place on Shoreditch High Street, which was excellent. Then went around Soho for a few bevies. Went to a 'table dancing' club off Bond St. Talk about high class or what. Cost 20 quid to get in which gave a voucher for a private dance. This turned out to be top half only; extra tenner for the full kit off. The tarts were stunners, all in evening gear (before swiping it off that is). If you wanted extra dance it was 30 quid a time. Drinks were 7 quid for half lager; a short was 9 quid. If you wanted a 'hostess' to come and talk with you at the table it cost £80 and you had to buy them a drink as well. Catch was they only drink Champagne at £75 a bottle. As you can imagine we weren't to impressed. They quickly realised that we weren't their usual clientele, which was Arab/Jap/Yank businessmen. Tone whinged like fuck. No surprise there then! We left after one dance each and a couple of beers. Then found out that Johns table ( only 4 to a table) got suckered into the hostess chat and champagne. From the 9 of us in there, they must have made nearly 500 quid. not bad for an hours work!..... Guest
UPSer, JCK's post is dead right. Forget sanuk in London. Find a friendly pub and settle for a few beers. In the sixties I worked at a place like JCK's mate talks about. We called them Clip Joints. All promises, no result, cost a good weeks Thai sanuk and you get nothing at the end except an empty wallet. London is total shite which is another reason why I'm now in LOS!!! If you really must venture out then try somwhere like Ministry of Sound or similar rave type place. You might get lucky and get a legover worst way you'll eyeball some decent looking young tottie. Enjoy your stopover. Mike P.
thai3
London clip joints are still around ,makes the scams in LOS lok pretty tame. Don't forget the thai nightclub at trafalger sq, never been myself but said to be good, also there must be a few of masage places with thai girls in them. There is the oriental escorts site but at £1,000 long time the money is better spent on a holiday-peter quote: Originally posted by MIKE P.: UPSer, JCK's post is dead right. Forget sanuk in London. JCK
Actually UPSer, if you're landing at EMA, why not give nearby Nottingham a try? My mate who wrote the note above comes from Nottinghamshire and he agrees with me that Nottingham is great! The best nightlife in UK.....Newcastle (and that's coming from a cockney). I heard some American survey rated Newcastle in the top ten of nightlife venues. I think number one was Rio de Janeiro.

Try some of the wine bars and pubs around the "lace market" area. There has always been a rumour that there are two girls to every one man in Nottingham, not sure that I believe this but it certainly seems like it on a night out... If you are ever stuck overnight at East Midlands and want to sammple some local nightlife, turn right on to the main road after leaving the airport and follow the signs for "Griffydam" There is a club called the travellers rest which used to be an excellent night out. For anyone who cares it was owned by the singer from Showwaddywaddy - a sad 70's rock and roll band. You could also try " The Gatsby" in the same area. spirit_of_town_hall
Hi Roger, I have to agree with you on that one. I went to Uni In Nottingham lived in Lenton. The rumour of 2 girls to one lad in Nottingham seems to be just that a rumour although the girls are friendly. The Lace market is Wine barred up now and full of pretentious wankers. Go down to Via Fossas on the canal, Roger I can imagine you at what was called MGM, am I wrong
