Guest
We put it to the vote at work today and decided that 'Khaw Phat Gai' - chicken fried rice - is the most boring dish in the world. The way it just sits there in a mound on the plate decorated with a couple of spring onions and a limp slice of tomato. My question is this - How can you make a chicken fried rice great!!! Fatbastard
I agree that in appearance it rates almost as low as a "pie floater" but actually tastes good with the addition of a bit of nam prik, I'm biased because its my regular lunchtime snack. khunsanuk
Hi, I would say that 'chicken or rice' (not sure about the Thai name) is even more boring. A couple of strips of chicken on top of plain rice. You do get a cup of soup (or something) with it though. Sanuk!
Guest
Strangely, the Singapore equivalent of khao-phat-gai, "Chicken Rice", is something like the country's national dish. Singaporeans just love it! Isn't there a Singaporean C.R. restaurant in Bangkok? (No jibes please that the dish is a boring as Singapore itself - as far as entertainment and night life goes S'pore has improved immensely over the last few years.) Guest
'Khaw Man Gai' is what you're talking about right? Oh that's a wonderful dish if the vendor gets it right. The best Singaporean chicken and rice is in Soi Ekkami about half way down on the right (if you come from Sukhumwit) It's delicious in there. No, give me that over Chicken Fried Rice anyday!!!! CondomKing
To Bangkok Phil -- A bland order of chicken fried rice can be greatly improved with a generous squirt of lemon juice, "menow". It will usually take two or three wedges to do the trick. What do you think?
