KILLER VIRUS: incl Sir Cam

KILLER VIRUS

Two more new viruses are spreading rapidly this weekend. No 1

is Magistr.A, which TrendMicro describes as a "memory-resident,

polymorphic virus using complex routines and anti-debugging

techniques, which make it very difficult to analyse." It has

both virus and worm capabilities in that it infects the local

system as well as all files with .EXE and .SCR extensions. It

sends infected files to all addresses listed in the address

book. It then trashes the primary hard disk drive controller,

overwrites CMOS RAM, and erases flash memory. And the email it

comes with does not have a static subject line.

SIRCAM STILL SPREADING

The other is Sircam, only discovered in the wild on Wednesday.

But like Magistr.A, it's already infected over 1.5 million

computers and is still spreading. Luckily, it has no

destructive payload, and it's message is the same: "Hi! How

are you? I send you this file in order to have your advice See

you later! Thanks" See http://wtc.trendmicro.com/wtc/ for more

on these two new threats.

=========================

Norton detected this virus 3 times in my email this morning.

UPDATE YOUR VIRUS DEFINITIONS NOW!

Look for the words

Hi! How are you?

I send you this file in order to have your advice

See you later. Thanks

Stop bring back the memories. That fucking virus hit my computer last night and was a pain to fix. A real pain in the ass. Honda sent it to me under a file saying to look at a document. I hummed and haaaaed whether to open it, but eventually did.

Heed his warning you do not want this virus.

Never, ever, ever open an attachment that is an .EXE or a .SCR or .VBS. It is not a document, it is a program. Not even if it's from someone you know - could have been sent by the virus. Actually, best advice is don't ever open attachments of any kind unless you are expecting it.

More this morning....

I posted the above warning in "general" as this virus is spreading so fast it's really scarey.

It's worse than the "LOVE" one from last year.

Very few Sanukers read the Technology threads.....

I hope the Moderator moves this thread back to "General"..... PLEASE!
