Guest
Can anyone tell me if pre-paid mobile phone cards are readily available?
Pom Michael
Yes, everywhere. The cheapest I have seen recently is THB 3,900 for a Philips Savvey model. Many Nokia's / Motorola / Ericsson's are avaiable for THB 5,900 to THB 9,900. AIS (Telewiz) and DTAC retails shops are located everywhere it seems. How much (if any) time would be included? Thanks, Shotover

How much (if any) time would be included? 1. Yes, price includes the telephone. 2. Caller ID is pretty much standard now on all mobile phones. 3. Voice mail is also standard, but you normally will need to change it to English as Thai is the default language. Prices Sep 2001 Nokia 5110i : THB 5,900 Nokia 3310 : THB 7,900 (DTAC contract), THB 9,400 (prepaid calls AIS), THB 9,900 (contract AIS) Nokia 6150 : THB 5,900 (contract DTAC) Nokia 6210 : THB 10,900 (contract AIS) Sorry, I'm a Nokia guy, so these are the only prices I'm looking at. Guest
sorry if i haven't made myself clear. i am talking about the pre-paid card only, not the phone. i have a gsm phone and just want to insert a prepaid sim card. you can buy them in australia, and want to know if they are available in thailand. thanks
Pom Michael
Now I understand. Both AIS and DTAC claim that this is not possible, you cannot buy a Thai prepaid SIM card and use it in a non-Thailand registered phone. [i have not tried it so can't confirm, but I have and still use a Thai prepaid SIM card in a old Thai registered phone and it works fine.] Others people have discussed before how to do this (change the overseas phone's IMI code), but I do not have any first-hand information except to try at MBK Department store. Many of the prepaid phones were giving THB 2,000 free as a promotion, so if your interested just buy the phone with the SIM card and give it away when you leave (someone at Woodstocks would give you something for it). Stickman
I note that you can get an Ericsson T28 on a pre-paid plan for under 6000 baht and that includes a starting credit of I believe 800 baht. Seems like a good deal as that is a fairly small phone. Stick

Yes there is an expirer date.. I think the first one is 2 months. After that if you buy 1 800 bhat credit you also get two months extra.
