Stop the spam..

Does anyone else get spammed silly. I receive (literally) dozens of emails every day. Some of them are really hardcore advertisements for porn sites.

This really concerns me as I don't buy memberships to porn sites and I doubt these people care if they are sending the emails to a child.

I've tried Spam reporting services but I just can't seem to stop it frown.gif" border="0

Me too. Average about 6 hardcore spams a day. I tried changing my e-mail address on hotmail and that didn't help. Before I had even used this new account I was recieving spam! That baffled me, either they can guess your e-mail account or I was using someones recycled e-mail handle?

Hotmail advises to just delete any offending e-mail and set up a filter. Don't respond even if it is too "unsubscribe" because this only confirms your e-mail is active and valid then the spammers sell it to other spammers.. They do not play fair.

Oh I did set up an e-mail account on mail.com where you are allowed to chose your e-mail name before the @ and after the @

I don't get any spam there. (not yet anyway) smile.gif" border="0

Yahoo has a spamguard that filters out some of the rubbish. You can also block addresses, but only up to a max of of about 40. Pity u can't block the domains or country extensions. Anyone know a free mail service that does?

Yes, there's a fortune to be made for someone who invents software to reply to all spam with a phoney email address and aninquiry for more information, so that the spammers waste as much time in replying as we do in deleting their spam.

In the past I was getting a lot of spam on the AMEX net mail site. It has been my experience that if you put a series of numbers in the e-mail address you will stop the spam. I no longer get spam on the AMEX site or on other web based accounts or via my ISP. Also, I use a fire wall that keeps things both out and in, e.g., it doesn't allow things to be sent back to sites unless I approve.

I can only speak about hotmail, but I use the filters(both regular and 'custom') and 'block sender' functions, and hardly get any junk mail anymore.

The 'block sender' function allows you to block domains as well:

===========================================

"Incoming messages from e-mail addresses (or domains) on your Block Sender List are deleted. These messages are never delivered, and as a result will not appear in your Junk Mail or Trash Can folder.

Type a single e-mail address (or domain)"

============================================

Even if that didn't work you could block a domain through 'custom filter' by choosing the 'from addr' option and typing in the domain name or whatever. Then redirect it to the trash can.

There should be similar functionality in the other free email services like Yahoo(?)

....someday this war's gonna end....
