ALHOLK
but all the Airports will get screwed "upgrading" for the stampede that is not coming That is precisely what they said when I was young and the 747 was introduced.
OCgringo
Not the same times , but again only time will tell I wonder if the new BKK airport is set up for the 380 ? or will the runway take the weight ? OC
Bkkbound04
Its already been to BKK maybe thats what caused the damage.. JP
shygye
Any runway that can handle a 747, an A380 can use it. The taxiways have to be wider and the infrastructure has to be upgraded with double-decker air bridge and new loading/unloading equipment.
BKKanalist
OCgringo- I saw the 380 at the new airport on Dec 5th or 6th. Really did not look much longer than the 747 it was next two but much bigger around in the fuselage. Eventually I bet it excels as a cargo plane. MooNoi
Eventually I bet it excels as a cargo plane. Uh-uh. Not any more. They've scrapped the cargo version of the A380 for the time being. A380 Cargo Version Shelved
OCgringo
can they park it next to all the old Concordes OC or will it mothballed in the Arizoba desert ?
Bangkoktraveler
Arizona desert? Here is one site. Link As you can see, there are a lot of planes setting there in mothballs. This is the largest sites which means there are other sites whose sole purpose is storing planes.
vegasdave49
Well I think the 380 may have a niche. But in the long run it is a one trick pony. Range and access to the most airports is the key. I think the 787 will be much more popular. Also this is just a personal take, but there is something about airbus products that just make me uneasy. They seem to have a sort of "flimsy" feel to them. I was talking to a airline guy one time and mentioned that I prefer Boeing aircraft. He laughed and said " Oh you don't like being on a scarebus" They really dont feel that stable in the air, to me.
Old Hippie
This new A380 might work better as a cargo plane. Frankly, it is the most over hyped plane yet...Boeing designed the 747 tyo have an upper deck that could be extended way back, it was never pushed, as no airport could accomodate it at that time. Additionally, no airline wanted it either. Airbus in generel does have good ideas, I like the A-340 for lay out and comfort (Fly one non stop Lax-BKK, nice. But in generel, airbus products are pure crap. They just don't hold up, and the design of the materials seems to be planned/developed in a half assed fashion at best. The crap I see on our fleet of A-319 ans A-320 is just rediculis, especially as they are newer than our Boeing fleet, which has far fewer problems. Airbus is still a safe plane mind you, just a crappy one.
