I've been reading about the fact that you can get a lot more than a haircut in some of Bangkoks barber shops!

I'd be grateful for any information,particularly names & addresses of such establishments in the soi 1 to soi 7 area of Sukhumvit Road.

On my first trip to BKK I had been keeping an eye out for a barber shop for a little while - cos' I needed a haircut!

One day I spied a stripey pole (the international sign for barber shops!)half way up a Soi and wandered up to a small shop with covered windows.

When I walked in their was a very small foyer filled with bored looking ladies reading magazines.

My excuse here is that I had a hangover so my brain wasn't working very well - but I figured they were all in the queue for a haircut so I turned to walk out, as I didn't want to wait and I also figured it was a Ladies hairdresser!

Anyway, just as I turned around the boss lady stopped me, I said I was after a haircut - indicated the ladies sitting their and said I did not want to wait and would be back later.

She told me it was "no problem" and led me into the next room and then up some stairs, with me wandering WTF I was going as it did not much look like a barber shop - however we did get to a room with 3/4 barber shop chairs in seperate cubicles placed in front of mirrors.

She told me to sit down. and a couple of minutes later another lady appeared, smiled, said hello and asked me what I wanted - I figured that my Thai and her English wasn't up to a detailed description of what sort of hair cut I wanted so I just said a haircut and made appropriate snipping actions with my fingers - she seemed to have trouble understanding this which I thought was odd, bearing in mind I was sitting in a barbers chair in a hairdressers!

Anyway, a couple of minutes later she wandered off, came back with the boss lady and repeated the questioning. She went off again and then came back with a towel and some scissors and I spent the next 10 minutes telling her where to cut and how much, I thought she just wasn't a very experianced hairdresser and they had probably sent her to practice on me!

However the truth of the situation did eventually dawn on me - particulerly after her repeated asking whether a haircut was ALL I wanted - although initially I couldn't work out what on earth else I could want in a barber shop!

I suddenly felt a complete twat as I realised that not only had I mistaken a queue of prostitues as customers waiting for a hair cut, but that one of them was doing her first (and probably still her only!) haircut on me and that everything that had been said to me by both the lady boss and her now made sense when looked at from a different viewpoint.

I decided to front it out - (although I didn't realise at the time that this was called "saving face" :-) and I continued to play the innocent.

Anyway, I paid up for the haircut and when I left, clearly having only had "just" a haircut the girls were all grinning and chuckling at this strange Farang who had come to a knocking shop for a haircut and clearly had no idea where he was - if only one of them had grabbed my dick or asked if I wanted a BJ as even with a hangover I could have worked that out, I like to think!

Many trips later I still peer up Soi's looking for "stripey poles", but unfortunately I have never found the place again

I know this does not help you at all - but thanks for bringing back some happy memories!

Troydeere -- I would try some of the smaller and funkier looking shops that you might find on one of the sois off Sukhumvit. If you think they really want to give you a haircut, you're in the wrong kind of place. Be careful, barber shops do actually exist along Sukhumvit Road. I've never been in the shop bet 5 & 7 where the girls are somewhat cute and all wear the same color outfits. My guess is that there's not much going on in there besides regular barbershop activities.

Don't bother checking out the barber shop near the Federal Hotel, you'll only be able to get your hair cut there.

Used to be a barber shop w/o haircutting services on the second floor of the Ambassadaor Shopping Annex, which is the low building in the parking lot/food court. Don't know if it's still there. It was once funky and cheap and then they renovated and the prices went up.

You'll know you're in the right place if the lady in charge keeps pushing the "massage" and everyone avoids the subject of giving you a haircut.

Actually there used to be two barber shops featuring the uniformed cuties in the location you mentioned. I heard they were owned by the same person. One has since closed and been converted into a bag shop or something.

I used to always smile and make funny faces at the ladies posing provocatively in the front of those places as I meandered by. Well, one time I was literally snagged by two of them and brought into the shop (alright, I wasn't really forcibly snagged). They had an area in the back of the shop separated by a folding curtain. I was deposited there and the two ladies had no interest in cutting my hair. If you saw my hair, you would know why.

Anyway, what I thought might be a BJ, began as a HJ, but degenerated into a GJ (Giggle Job). Of course, I managed to get a few gropes in and a promise from one that should we meet me later at Thermae. Never did see her again though.

I have friends that swear by the haircuts in that place to this day, but they claim to have never enjoyed a Giggle Job or any other funny job there. But, I have noticed that folding curtain in the back is still there when I walk past.

Barons on sukhumvit 26 lists itself as a Barber,Massage and Sauna. I think that you can claim a 10% discount on services if you can find a barbers chair in the place or know of anyone who has had a haircut there

Isn't the general rule that if the windows o are tinted to the extent you can not really make out anything inside then it is a barber plus establishment.

That being the case there are a nuumber in

siam square that match David66uk's description although they do provide haircuts

my knowledge of barber shops comes just from outside BKK.

A barber shop is a place to have hair cut, sing karaoke in a separate room and have ST for 200 in massage rooms.

The barber shops I saw just accept Thais.

A giggle job? What's that? Nevermind, I can just imagine. Well, OK, I guess that counts. I don't think it's exactly what Troydeere had in mind. Now that I think about it, I actually did go into one of those "let's all dress in bright yellow today" shops for a manicure. Didn't make out as well as you did, just got my nails trimmed. I guess that's what I was thinking about. I've been by there so many times that I forgot I ever went into the place.

Some snippets on barber shops from the old board. I have never tried. I determined that if you want a haircut, go find a good barber. If you want other services, find a specialist in services you desire. But, if you need a haircut and other services, and you are short on time, try these:

Soi 33 Barber, same side of the street as Renoir, Monet's on Soi 33 also has upstairs massage area, used to have some beautiful girls too. Massage time paid to the shop, and extras negotiated direct with the girls.

 

Bangkok Int'l Airport Barbers shop 2nd floor of don muang airport. You don't even need to leave the airport. You must go to Terminal 2, upper level. The beautyshop/baber is located right next to the entrance to the car park (garage). - You go in and say you'd like a "good full service haircut". - The receptionist will show you a book of various hairstyles (these are all some what out of date), you should pick the style that you want or try to describe it to the receptionist yourself. - After getting your hairstyle desires down, she will bring out another book of 4 to 6 girls. These are your "service providers". The receptionist will lead you to a private room that looks much like a regular barbershop (barber chair, sink, etc). There is also a "love seat" type sofa bed. Now you get your cut first, then service. Price is negotiated separate from the regular haircut. I hear B1000 is about right for this. Total time involved, about 90 mins from start to end. There are several haircut places in the airport (the others are located AFTER you clear passport control. But as far as I hear it, these facilities are just that, haircut.

Soi 4, Barber Shop next to Chequers haircut, and all was around 1200 baht.

Soi 7 on Sukhumvit Rd. two barber shops on Sukhumvit near soi 7? got hustled into the back and two honeys started working on me - all this before 9:00pm. Actually, I just enjoyed a nice 15 min massage and HJ. No haircut please. For this I gave each lady a whole 50 baht.

Around Soi 9 or 7. Nude Stopped in for a haircut, shown to a (sort of) private cubicle, seated in a barbers chair, and the young lovely about to cut my hair asked if I wanted her to take her clothes off while she cut my hair. Turned out it was 80baht for a haircut, 150 for haircut - lady no clothes, 250 for haircut- 2 ladies no clothes.

Hair Design Barber & Bar Beer HJ/BJ/Nude 153/7 Sukhumvit Soi 11 near the Ambassador, opposite World Inn hotel. Walking towards Sukhumvit Rd break left before the ATM its the small Soi leading to Sukhumvit. on the right hand side. Sit at the bar with the massage girls. Cheap prices. Go up to the 3rd floor for a shower and a hour massage. Its open in the afternoons. Hair cut with naked girl, HJ, BJ massage, rooms upstairs. The girl offer by herself to undress, their shower were two open showers and the floor was dirty. (This is the only one I went myself for oil massage, the cutie took off her shirt and let me play while getting the HJ, she was good looking and nice body, wouldn't mind a ST with her, )

Ambasador Plaza, Soi 11, 250bt/1hr next to Amb. Hotel, you will see a barber pool on the left side of plaza with the Hotel being behind you, go up the escalator and there you are. The barbers name is Sim, she gives great hair and is 33 years old, their 6-8 girls waiting to give you a massage, pick one, the mas. is 250b / hr. plus tip.

Soi 24 a long body massage with an electric vibrator, she does let her hands stray (while

inviting mine to do the same).

Soi 55 /BJ 500bt total Places were up Sukhumvit before you come to soi 55. One is on the north side and the other on the south. blow jobs after the haircut. This included a decent head and neck massage and the haircut was OK too. Total about B500. they were surprised to see a farang come into the shop, but delighted none the less to take my money.

There is a haircut place right off Suk. on the small soi between soi 11 and soi 13-15. I think it was called "Hair Style" "Hair salon"or something like that. It is down the street and on the opposite side from Mrs. Balbir's Indian Restaurant. I think there was a restaurant named "Maxims" on the same block. Anyway, had a couple of haircuts there and was quite pleased. the girl's name was LeeLee or something like that. Older (35?) and very pretty girl but no fooling around. Had shampoo/haircut and style. Dont recall the price but think it was about $5 usd or perhaps a bit more. Also had an "ear cleaning" which I will not do again. I will definitely go back there again next trip for a haircut. Also, they had a small bar and offered massages at the place but did not partake of either of these.

I have always gotten a decent hair cut from a girl who spoke ok English at the barber shop on Soi 11/1 ( 100 yards in on the next street past Soi 11 toward Soi 13). This is also a massage parlor of some type (?) but have never had a barber that offered anything else. I asked a couple if they would go out after work and they said no. In May, 2000 they had 4 barbers (and a bunch of massage girls).

Get the shampoo. It is cheap and comes with a great scalp massage.

(There is no pressure to also get a regular massage. There is a bar as part of the facilities that you can have a drink and look over the available girls. If nothing suits you, just go to the desk and ask for a haircut. If you like the atmosphere, come back every day. A daily shampoo and scalp massage is less than 100 baht as I recall).
