Taking my friend Charles around beer-bars often elicited laughter from the girls when I told them he was called by the name "Chuck". To the girls ears this was "chok wow" and they would burst into giggles. He and I were both curious why. A bar girl with limited English made a vague gesture to explain from behind the bar, her hand with curled fingers moved from in front of her with an over the shoulder motion. I sais to Chuck "your name means masturbator".
