Daytime in Angeles City?

CDN

Recommended Posts

Hi CDN - I personally love visiting Angeles every 3-4 months for something different. I have a few mates up there which helps. Angeles has a huge mall with multi-screen movie cinema (SM Clark) which is walking distance from the centre of P4P activity. I usually rent a moto to get around and have never had any problems.

There is not a huge amount to do - I normally do the mall - swim at the hotel pool and visit stores on the perimter (if you have a moto it is amazing what you can find e.g. there is a store that sells the best wooden model planes that I absolutley love). They are getting close to opening the new freeway to Subic that will open it up as a day trip (beach, diving).

Just my opinion, but I think P4P is so much better than LOS. If you like variety you will find the GF experience is so strong you have to work hard to get the girl out the next day (and most time you will be struggling with yourself as to whether giving her the push is a wise decision the experience is so good!) Its WAYYYYY cheaper than LOS (not as cheap as Cambodia but not that different). 1,000 pesos (about $21) bar fine and 500 peso tip for an all-nighter (and she won't be trying to do a runner at the earliest opportunity). Drinks 100 pesos. Makes bangkok look sick at the current prices!

I fly Cebu Air out of Bangkok as it does not invlove an overnighter on the way up necessary if you fly Tiger or Air Asia and usually can get the flight for around Baht 8000 that works out much cheaper as well. Taxi up to AC will run another 2000+/- pesos each way. I like to stay at good hotels...the new Orchid resort and the Sea Breeze around the corner I really like ($80-90/night). So go try it for yourself. I will be surprised if you come away disapointed.

Thank you for taking the time to write on this thread, rob1074. I appreciate your information and I'm sure I'll have a great time. All the reading I've done about Angeles hints that if one keeps his wits and has a modicum of charm, things should be fine.

Well, my Angeles trip has come and gone. It was a shock for me.

Not to sound naive, but the poverty I saw there was heartaching. I'm not an innocent lad, but I've only seen worse in Poipet/Aranyaprathet.

Sure, the P4P is less expensive in the Philippines than in Thailand, but at what other cost?

The women that dance in the bars are paid 100 to 150 pesos a day for 8+ hours of work, with dekserves getting 90 to 100 a day. There are beggar kids all about, and DVD and Viagra/Cialis hawkers crawling all up and down the streets like flies on the meat at an open-air butcher's shop.

Worst of all was the creeping feeling of being part of genuine exploitation, on a level which I never before felt on P4P trips to Thailand.

Casino Filipino on MacArthur turned out to be a shabby run-down hole. My travel mate, an ex-blackjack dealer, was abhorred at their set-up and operations. Too many cards burned on the blackjack game, chits that were nasty with unseen grime, lax security procedures, and a caterwauling singer in the lounge who caused more than a few people to cringe.

Aside from meeting a few folks (mostly lasses)at bars and at my hotel, the trip was a waste for me.

I was impressed, however, with the cheerfulness of many of the people I met. Given the nature of Angeles, their spirit was impressive.

Angeles is a hard-core town, no bones about it.
