anyone watching?

http://www.aboutaball.co.uk/html2/tournaments/copa2007.php

ist couple of games played and the Hosts Venezuela still can't get it right, they haven't won a game for 40 Years.........

and well fancied outsiders Uruguay were thrashed by Peru..... :yikes:

the Usual suspects Argentina and Brazil are favourites despite missing Players,Brazil espiecally.

but i look forward to watching Anderson who has recently signed for some small Team in the NW of the UK,can't quite recall their name..... :banghead:

i suppose the purists would expect/want to see the Final between Argentina and Brazil?.

but i can't see it happening,if both as expected win their groups and QF's they will meet in the SF's due to the draw.

i may be wrong but the only way i can see them in the Final is if Brazil come 2nd or 3rd in their Group and then results go the right way.

i see Mexico and USA have been invited.....

i bet the USA are glad they don't have to play in the South American qualifying rounds for the WC.

they are much happier playing against all those small islands in the Carribean where they know they will qualify every time,no competition.... :doah:

i certainly look for ward to their 1st game of the Tournament..........Argentina..... :grinyes:

2 entertaining games in Group B.

Chile 3-Equador 2.

Chile came from behind twice before scoring a late winner.

Brazil 0-Mexico 2.

a great game.

Brazil were truly awful in the 1st half and conceded 2 Goals.

the 1st a good individual Goal and the 2nd a sublime free-kick.

Brazil just seemed so lacklustre and apart from an early chance at 0-0 didn't look like scoring.

the 2nd half was different.

they bought on Anderson(who i was interested in seeing)and he made a difference for around 25 minutes before fading.

Brazil peppered the goal and had chances kicked off the line on 2 occasions and the inspired Mexican Keeper made some good saves.

Brazil were missing some top Players but credit to Mexico.

they were also missing Players and played the game 4 Days after losing 2-1 to the USA in another Tournament at the Weekend.

the 6th time in 7 games that Brazil have failed to score against Mexico.

4 games so far and 14 goals and some of them have been great to watch.

but the miss of the Tournament so far from Mexico.

in the last minute a Player broke from his own half and raced towards Goal.

he was trailed by Alex of PSV Eindhoven(maybe Chelsea next Season)who gave up rather easily and slowed down.

the Mexican rounded the Keeper and with an open Goal missed from 6 Yards..............

Per si.com Landon Donovan, DaMarcus Beasley, Clint Dempsey and Tim Howard were left behind after discussions with the players and their clubs.

Only eight of the 22 players on the Copa roster played in the Gold Cup, with four of those players playing secondary roles, mostly as reserves. Among the eight tabbed to play in both tournaments, only two started the final against Mexico.

Group C.

Paraguay 5-Columbia 0

the formbook is thrown out the window again as Paraguay thrash the opposition.

Columbia miss a penalty with one of the worst attempts i have ever seen...... :doah:

114 seconds later Paraguay take the lead.

at the start of the 2nd half Paraguay delayed their entering the field of play and may have un-nerved their opponents.

within 21 seconds they were 2-0 up.

and soon Santa Cruz completed the perfect hat-trick.....left foot, right foot and with his head........ :worship:

Santa Cruz scores more Goals in 80 minutes for Paraguay than he managed for Bayern Munich last Season.

a late sub comes on and scores 2 fine Goals......

Columbia were utter shite......... :yikes:

they seemed to give up after the 2nd Goal and the defence was woeful.

their Goalie was atrocious and my 11 Year old Cousin WOULD have done better.

getting ready for Argentina/USA next...........

Argentina 4-USA 1

the USA field an experimental Team with the majority of players from the MLS while Argentina were just about at full strength.

a shock on 9 minutes as the USA open the scoring from the Penalty spot..... :yikes:

but within 3 Minutes Chelsea's Crespo equalizes with a Goal which might have easily been disallowed.

a clever free-kick eluded the USA Defence and as Keller came to snuff out the danger a foot was raised quite high to his face and he fumbled and Crespo netted.

normally you see this kind of thing disallowed.

the Half finished level with the USA easily coping with a very lacklustre Argentina.

the Argies came out more determined for the 2nd Half and eventually finished worthy 4-1 winners.

Crespo scored his 2nd to give the Argies the lead before Aimar finished off a great Team move......20 passes before Aimar finished.

Tevez, the Man in the news in the UK comes off the bench and gets the 4th.

the USA performed well for an Hour or so but eventually the class and experience shone through.

3rd Day of the Tournament and 10 Goals scored..... :elephant:

in 6 Games a total of 24 Goals already.........

and another good thing so far......the standard of Refereeing.........

they are letting the Games flow, stamping down on diving and other histrionics and rarely showing a card...... :soccer:

Group A

2nd round of Games and a bit of history made.

Bolivia 0-Uruguay 1

Uruguay get points on the board with a Goal in the 58th Min.

a rather slow Game but they owe thanks to the Goalie for 2 fine saves in injury time.

Peru 0-Venezuela 2

after 40 Years and 43 Games Venezuela manage to win only their 2nd Game in Copa America.

quite a poor 1st Half which ended 0-0 but the 1st Red Card shown to a Peruvian Player sent off for an elbow into the face of an opponent.

Venezuela took the lead within 4 Minutes of the restart with a fine header from a corner.

the tempo rose and Peru had some incisive moves and one Player wriggled through the Defence and hit the post when it looked easier to score.

the new Chelsea Player Pizzaro had an open Goal to equalise but was fouled and the ball cleared.

clear Penalty but the Ref waved play on.

Venezuela scored a 2nd with a finish after a mazy dribble from one of the Forwards.

Venezuela also had a Player sent off for 2 Yellow Cards.

he was flagged offside but put the ball into the net and the Ref booked him for dissent and therefore sent him off.

embarrassing for the Venezuela Coach as the Player concerned was his Son.

Group B.

Brazil 3-Chile 0

again a poor 1st Half only highlighted by Real Madrid's Robinho netting from the Penalty spot.

looked a Penalty to me but one of those occasions when the Ref will quite often wave play on.

the 2nd Half was slightly better, but not much.

both Teams huffed and puffed and a few chances but nothing really outstanding.

then in the last 6 Minutes Robinho completed his Hat-Trick with 2 fine Goals.

Brazil are looking poor at the moment without 2 of their stars currently 'too tired' to play and the retirement of Cafu and R.Carlos.

the Pundits made Robinho Man Of Match for his performance, but a joke really.

they only said that because of his 3 Goals......

Suazo (sp) of Chile had a great Game and looks an interesting prospect.

i can see why Arsenal don't want Baptista anymore,he has been abysmal in the 2 Games played too far.

and Anderson of Man Utd looks like a crock of shit so far but at least next Season he will be playing for a Team which is better than the shower of shite i saw tonight..........

but a great incident at H/T.

start of the 2nd Half and it was noticed that one of the nets needed repairing.

could they find anyone in the Stadium to help repair the net?.......of course not.

after almost 10 Minutes the Ref was standing on a chair with tape tying it up while Groundsmen who had finally appeared stood around watching.........

Equador 1-Mexico 2.

Mexico book their place in the Q/F's with a stuttering win.

an unexciting 1st Half was livened up by a Mexican break through the middle and the Forward rounded the Goalie and rolled the ball into an empty net.

Equador improved in the 2nd Half and only a good performance by the Mexican Goalie prevented at least 3 Goals.

Mexico finally finished the Game off with a fine Headed Goal before Equador pulled back a late Goal which needed a slight deflection to beat the Goalie.

Group C.

Paraguay 3-USA 1

quite an entertaining Game with both Teams going forward throughout the Game and forcing some good saves from the Keepers.

Paraguay opened the scoring before USA equakised with a fine effort from the edge of the area.

1-1 at the break and the 2nd half really flowed and Paraguay edged into the lead 10 Minutes into the 2nd Half after they had had to replace their Keeper due to injury.

both Teams had further chances but Paraguay scored in the 85th Minute with a cracking free-kick to run out 3-1 winners and book their place in the Q/F's.

The young and fairly inexperienced USA will go home somewhat deflated but they did show promise and should look at the good points.

Argentina 4-Columbia 2

Argentina again fielded a strong side with a strong bench to back them up.

but Columbia opened the scoring with a Player backheeling the ball pas the Keeper.

Messi has been playing well so far but showed his cheating again by winning a Penalty after he was tackled and rolled around.

Crespo scored from the spot but at the same time somehow straining a groin muscle and had to be replaced.

Requelme then scored twice before the break to leave Argentina 3-1 ahead at the break.

Argentina slowed in the 2nd Half and seemed content to play the Game out.

but Columbia chipped away and after scoring their 2nd hit the bar to ensure a tense finish.

Columbia had a Player sent off in injury-time before Argentina settled the Game with a 4th Goal via a deflection.

Argentina are looking good, but their Defence could be their Achilles heel.

the Tournament has been exciting so far with 43 Goals in 12 Games.....

Group A.

Bolivia 2-Peru 2

Bolivia opened the scoring with a good floated chip from outside the area by Moreno who plays in the MLS.

Chelsea's Pizarro equalised with a header from a corner before Bolivia scored again on the stroke of H/T.

a thumping shot from the Bolivian crashing off the underside of the bar after good approach work by Team-mates.

2nd half and Bolivia seemed to settle for the scoreline as it would have been enough to see them through to the next round.

but Peru upped the pace and after having a Player sent off Pizzaro equalized again with 6 Minutes remaining, sending Bolivia crashing out.

Uruguay 0-Venezuela 0

1st Goal-less Game of the Tournament and no surprise as both Teams knew they had qualified before they kicked off.

nothing much of note happened during the Game.

Uruguay qualify as one of the best 3rd placed Teams.

4 out of the 12 Teams will be eliminated by Thursday and already Bolivia,Columbia and the USA are definately out.

looks like Equador will be the 4th unless they score a hat-full against Brazil.
