shygye
I would think the water on the slide reduces the friction so the car CAN slide down the slope. It sounded from the description that the cars abruptly stopped on the slope. The water level at the bottom was reduced. Then when the power came on the water on the slide started causing the cars to descend and slam into the concrete bottom of the pool.
Mekong
Excuse me! If you are driving down the highway at say 120 KPH and you were to hit a large puddle head on I think you would find that your vehicle would decellerate not accellerate, conversley if you where to hit a puddle with say just the wheels on one side of the vehicle it would tend to steer in the direction of the water not away from it. Observer powerboat racing and you will see that the principle is to get the vessel to hydroplane since the resistance of a body through air is less than through water, if you were to kick a ball across a field and it rolls into a puddle of water it would slow down not speed up. The "Car" in which the woman was travelling in when she sustained her injuries that led to her death did not hit concrete at the bottom of the slope, it hit the one in front of it which would have been being pulled up the next slope on a chain drive, once the ride restarted the car at the bottom was moving at normal speed the car that fell from 20 meters accellerated down the slope faster than usual due to lack of resistance and a collision occured. <<<--- Off to play with slide rule. shygye
Not when it hydroplanes! The water going down the incline reduces the coefficient of friction! It acts as a lubricant. Just like when a road is wet it takes a longer distance to stop your car. Now back to my Smith chart.
Mekong
You are confusing Hydroplaning with Aquaplaning
shygye
I think not! Hydroplaning
cavanami
>"The brownout caused the water pumps to stop >working. Water gradually receded. The staff were >reckless. They failed to notice [the abnormal >water level] and suspend the ride," she said. >Although the park used an automatic control >system, the staff were supposed to check the >water level before allowing riders to get on the >boat, she said. Easy to have a had a large, flashing red light to indicate low water level and have the system interlocked so that the rides stop! Very basic system safety!!! Flashermac
The Siam Park owner presented the injured 10 yr old daughter of woman who was killed, a lifetime pass to the park and a few other things while she recovers in the hospital. Just what she needs whenever she wants to think about her mom. Unbelievable. Hardly unbelievable. The Phuket hotel association a couple of years ago presented free airline tickets and free hotel vouchers to the parents of the Brit gal who was raped and murdered on the beach there. Khun_Kong
The 10 yo was quoted as saying she planned to use the park for the rest of her life, or some such nonsense. This was the second injury on this ride in the last 5 years or so. They are still being sued on the 1st one, a Jap guy I believe. They initially said they would cover his medical bills, but reneged when he couldn't produce a receipt.
Bangkoktraveler
The Receipt probably was in Japanese.
Sargon2
I thought this happened on Koh Samui, unless there were two similar incidents? Not that bad things can't happen (and happens) on Phuket.
