America Helps Turkey Commit State Terrorism

In helping Turkey target Kurdish guerrillas in Northern Iraq, is America betraying the very people that helped them take down Saddam when Turkey refused to do so? According to this statement by the Kurdistan Democratic Alliance published in Norther Iraqâ??s Kurdish Media, â??The U.S.-E.U. alliance with Turkey goes against human dignity, democracy, human Rights and social justice. Yet, both the U.S. and E.U. consider themselves as defenders of these ideals.â??

â??The Kurds who have been displaced, wounded or killed are the very people who opened the Northern Front for the United States during the war against Saddam Hussein â?? doing so just when the Turkish Parliament refused to allow America the use of its territory.â?Â

Dunno Flash. The Kurds want their own country, of which a big slab would be part of Turkey.

This is the reason the Turks wouldn't cooperate over Iraq, it was very much an "if you're encouraging the Kurds don't expect any help from us" situation.

Now the Americans want to keep sweet with the Turks because of their strategic position re Russia.

Playing both sides against the middle, juggling seventeen balls while being chained into a safe Houdini style before being dropped into twenty feet of water.

Sanuk mak.

America needed Turkey to wage war in Iraq. Turkey was essential for the massive tons of supplies needed to keep the military there. So they made a devils pact with Turkey. Its the same reason the Bush administration fought hard to stop the congressional recognition of the Armenian genocide. Its the same reason why a virulently anti communist America aided Russia in WW2. Our government (as well as others in the same situation) looks the other way or even helps in cases like these. The numerous times we've propped up or looked the other way on right wing dictatorships in south America can't be counted. Without the war in Iraq we wouldn't have been nearly as supportive and possibly even wagged a public finger at it if it weren't for the war. And its also because of the war that the Kurds have hope of their own state. Turkey is upset about that. Saddam had the Kurds in Iraq in check while the Turks did the same or tried to do the same to kurds on their side. We upset the apple cart.

There are also a lot of Kurds in Iran as well and that may destabalize things there.

The Kurds in Turkey, Iran and Iraq are not liked by the majority peoples of each of those countries. So what to do? Too messy for me to try and work out. The questions are do they 'deserve' their own state and if so, there will have to be a war to get it because Turkey won't give any land up. Iran probably not either. So it may have to be in Iraqi territory and no way will Turkey want a Kurdish state on its border. Messy business all of it.
